World War 3

Nuclear war is foreshadowed, perhaps within months. It may be a good time to start making peace, if not with your enemies then with yourself, family and friends.

I can't believe Sports Illustrated is weighing in on this.
At some point in the future it will probably happen on some scale. Right now there's not enough countries with nukes to make it a high risk. Imagine all countries out there with nukes a hundred or two hundred years down the road in a fully developed world.

It is a great blessing to see yourself as others have seen you.

Below, Nigerians discuss unintended consequences of our actions.

Notorious Globalist & the world's most Evil Person speaks out & reveals his devilish agenda:

Russia's invasion of Ukraine may have marked the start of "a third world war," and Russian President Vladimir Putin must be defeated "as soon as possible" if the world wants to preserve civilization.
That was the stark message that Hungarian-born billionaire and philanthropist George Soros delivered on Tuesday to attendees at the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

"repressive regimes are now in the ascendance and open societies are under siege," he said Tuesday. "Today, China and Russia present the greatest threat to open society."
Open societies have governments that are diametrically opposed to governments in closed societies, Soros noted. "[In an] open society, the rule of the state is to protect the freedom of the individual. [In a] closed society, the role of the individual is to serve the rulers of the state."

"I think Ukraine today is rendering a tremendous service to Europe and to the western world and to open society and our survival because they are fighting our fight," "They have a really good chance of winning...[W]e must give them all the support that they ask for."

Ukraine has lost the war, but nuclear war still beckons., according to retired colonel/congressman.

Strategic foundation blocks for Cold War, trade war, economic sanctions and ultimately hot war and WW3 are discussed.

Reportedly, the US has operationally deployed nuclear weapons in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey. France and the UK have their own deployments. Most of the world's deployed nuclear weapons are in Europe. Repeated threats from senior Russian officials to use nuclear weapons are likely to be empty for the moment. But they must be of great concern.

All right then people. Maintain the fear.
GTP is more than just a sim racing forum. Yes, sim racing brought us all together, but we do talk about other things since many of us have "known" each other for the better part of 20 years.

It's also not fearmongering to talk about a potential World War 3. There are definitely some genuine issues going on in the world right now that could kick off a world war. Between Russia wanting to become the Soviet Union 2.0, NATO's obligation to defend its members, and China poking Taiwan, we're probably closer to a world war now than we have been since the height of the Cold War. It's also worth noting that a world war doesn't automatically mean the apocalypse either.

TBF last time we had a world war it rocketed America's economy to a position of dominance, employed Americans at record rates, spawned a very fruitful time for a large middle class, and generated massive amounts of technological innovation.

I don't see the downside.

This thread hopefully will be shut down soon. Doom and gloom shouldn't be in a racing forum.
If you're confusing an interesting discussion about what-ifs with "doom and gloom" then I hope your easy ride through life continues. Many people have experienced real life doom and gloom in their personal lives and understand that in some cases it's just a part of life, and you have to learn how to navigate through it with your sanity intact. I personally don't think that a discussion about global tensions qualifies as "doom and gloom", at least not the type that I've experienced. We're just having a chat. I'd rather it be at a bar but I'll take a nice peaceful chat online because frankly you never know when life is gonna take a fat **** on your forehead, but it's more likely than not.

Though some have an apparent pathological need for others to be afraid.

“It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future” - attributed to a baseball-playing philosopher, Yogi Berra

The future is not set in stone. No matter how scary it might seem, we still have the time and common sense to change our behavior and its outcomes. IMHO, we can positively avoid WW3 and a nuclear holocaust in Europe by taking positive steps to recognize and end the steady escalation and rapidly deteriorating political and economic realities taking place right now. Otherwise, there's not much to stop it.

You should be alarmed. If you are alarmed, you may be able to put out a fire before it consumes everything you love.

It killed a lot of people?

Who were promptly replaced by Boomers three-fold! So no real loss there.
I know you're trying to be funny, but between the sheer scale of death involved, the real danger that direct conflict between major powers kicks off again in the next few decades, and the fact that a non-insubstantial proportion of Americans seem to agree with some variant of what you posted it feels more like pointing out that a lot of people are going to die and a lot of other people are going to cheer that on.

Kind of a bummer, honestly. The world is full of assholes trying to kill anyone who is the wrong colour or lives in the wrong place, and assholes who think that sounds like a good time.

P.S. Since when did replacing anything with Boomers count as an improvement? Given that they're the generation mostly in charge one could probably make a strong argument that if there had been less Boomers then the world would be less ****ed.

I must admit every time I read a post from @Dotini , I always think of...

I do think we are now in another Cold War, sadly. With Russia at a minimum. I dont think it will be more than that.

For all the CCP bluster, I dont see China invading Taiwan as long as countries like Japan and Australia continue to demonstrate support and willingness to intervene. While I vehemently hate the CCP, theres a difference between threats and the constant pushing of boundaries, and taking major actions, and I dont see Winnie doing something stupid. He is many things but I've never thought him to be stupid. And I think he knows that invading Taiwan would be stupid even if he wishes it wasn't.

Putin is somewhat more unpredictable. But I hope not stupid enough to cross the line. Or that if he did try to, he would be stopped by someone else in the position to do so, someone who would act in self preservation if for nothing else.

As an aside, I do think there's potentially a separate argument that if you talk from the point of view of this planet, we have gone far past the point at which this planet can support the human race. Up until 1945 there were checks and balances in place for thousands of years - war, famine, disease - which kept the human race in check. Even without global warming, I dont believe this earth can support this number of people. The way we are going, we could end up with forced euthanasia ala Soylent Green.
You gotta tell em, Soylent Green is people...!

Actually, you are already involved hip deep in a hot land war in the middle of Europe. There is no escape.

IMHO, the greatest antiwar song ever:

IMHO, the greatest antiwar song ever:

Eve of Destruction was a song that united the nation against the Vietnam war and inspired passage of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution.
Yet the song itself was not that great - it was sung by a nobody, the simple 4 bar backing track was recorded in one take and the vocal dubbed in , and the whole thing illegally released in a matter of hours after recording. And it was banned in many locations.
