Can't decide between the Alfa and the Golf, I like both a lot... I'll flip a coin...

*le coin flip*

Golf it is...

Honda S2000 vs. Mazda RX-7 Spirit R - That's not fair at all. The Spirit R RX-7 vs. a normal S2000? Obviously the RX-7.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo vs. Ford Explorer - I like the Explorer a bit more.

Mazda MX-5/Eunos Roadster vs. Toyota MR-2 GT Turbo vs. BMW 330Ci vs. Nissan 300ZX TT Convertible - Hard, but I'll take the 300ZX.

Results:
1. Nissan 300ZX TT Convertible
2. Toyota MR2 GT Turbo
3. BMW 330Ci
4. Mazda MX-5

Renault Sport Megane 225 Cup vs. Ford Focus ST vs. Mazda Mazdaspeed3 vs. Alfa Romeo 147 GTA vs. Volkswagen Golf V GTI - The Mazda3, easy.

Results:
1. Mazda Mazdaspeed3
2. Ford Focus ST
3. Alfa Romeo 147 GTA
4. Volkswagen Golf V GTI
5. Renault Sport Megane 225 Cup

NA Mazda MX-5

or

SW20R Toyota MR2 GT Turbo

or

E46 BMW 330Ci

or

Z32 Nissan 300ZX Convertible (Twin-Turbo)

Firstly, great idea for a comparo. Anyway, I will gladly take the MR2. The 300ZX looks odd in convertible format, the MX-5 is far too girly for my taste and as great as the E46 may be, I don't want it with a soft top.

RenaultSport Megané 225 Cup

Ford Focus XR5 Turbo/ST

Mazda3 MPS (MazdaSpeed 3)

Alfa Romeo 147 GTA

Volkswagen Golf V GTi

The Golf seems like the smart choice here, but I've never been too attracted to them. The Mazda will most likely feel cheap, the Alfa isn't as beautiful as people make it out to be and the Renault looks too big and lacks proper styling. Focus it is!

I was kinda hoping not to have a tie but alas there is between the Golf and the 147...

I kinda wanna keep things moving so I am going to choose based on BFYB. Both examples I found cost $14,500 so that's out of it. Looking at various lap times they seem to be split in terms of which one is faster than the other, and usually by the same margins too so that's out of it. I haven't managed to find any conclusive data on braking performance either.

It means it has to come down to straight line performance. Which the 147 GTA easily monsters the GTi with its 3.2L V6.

147 moves on to the final.

Round 3: GT-Coupes.

R34 Nissan Skyline 25GT-T

Holden/Vauxhall Monaro [Pontiac GTO] CV8

JZA80 Toyota Supra RZ (actually managed to find one that looked somewhat respectable)

Series 5 (FC) Mazda RX-7 Turbo (sorry guys, FDs for this range are pretty much rooted I'm afraid....props at least to the owner of this one for having the same taste in mags as myself ;) )

Mitsubishi GTO [3000GT] MR

cp4705511048012233877.jpg

Nissan Skyline 25GT-T vs. Holden Monaro CV8/Vauxhall Monaro CV8/Pontiac GTO vs. Toyota Supra RZ vs. Mazda RX-7 Turbo/Mazda Savanna vs. Mitsubishi GTO/Mitsubishi 3000GT - That's hard, but I'm gonna pick the R34 because it's not legal here and it would be awesome to drive.'

Results:
1. Nissan Skyline 25GT-T
2. Mazda RX-7 Turbo
3. Toyota Supra RZ
4. Holden Monaro
5. Mitsubishi GTO

Skyline tied with the RX-7 (that one is really nice!). Then the Mitsubishi followed by the Holden and the Supra last.

Monaro. I've never been a fan of the older Japanese sports cars. However, out of those I'd get the Skyline because it is the rarer one and appears stock. I'd still get the Monaro though.

4 votes for the Skyline plays 3 for the Munroe, and 1 each for the others. Skyline is through to the final. (Mine would have been for the Skyline as well)

Round 4: Fast Four-Doors (This is a big one)

MY02 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

X306 Jaguar XJR Supercharged

cp5747582437761934249.jpg

Couple of notes with this round:

- The competitive bracket with these vehicles was quite simply 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds or less. Obviously some of these cars are a lot quicker than others but this is to ensure a broad spectrum as each one of you of course will have different tastes and reasons as to choose one over the other.

- Due to the $15k budget, there were no ///M cars or Audi S-cars. Sorry guys.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi vs. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI vs. Holden Commodore SS vs. Toyota Chaser Tourer V vs. Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo vs. Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG vs. BMW 540i M-Sport vs. Jaguar XJR Supercahrged - Well it's easily the WRX for me, then the Evo.

Results:
1. Subaru Impreza WRX STi
2. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI
3. BMW 540i M-Sport
4. Toyota Chaser Tourer V
5. Holden Commodore SS
6. Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo
7. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
8. Jaguar XJR Supercharged

1. Lancer Evo. 6 GSR
2. Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo BA
3. Holden Commodore SS 6.0 VZ
4. Jaguar XJR Supercharged
5. Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG
6. BMW 540i M-Sport
7. Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Gen II
8. Toyota Chaser

Again, I'll have the Holden. I'll try the list thing:

1. Holden
2 .Mercedes
3. Jaguar
4. Ford
5. BMW
6. Toyota
7. Mitsubishi
8. Subaru

The Evo was going to win until I saw the C36. I am extremely biased towards Mercs, but I genuinely think that's the best car in the list, at least for me. Also, shouldn't the Merc be compared with a 3 series instead of a 5? Maybe en E Class of the same Gen would be a better competitor for the 5 series.

1. Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG
2. Lancer Evo. 6 GSR
3. BMW 540i M-Sport
4. Jaguar XJR Supercharged
5. Toyota Chaser
6. Holden Commodore SS 6.0 VZ
7. Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo BA
8. Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Gen II

Hot Hatches:
Head says the Golf, but my heart says the Alfa. I'll take the Alfa!

GT-Coupes:
It's between the Supra, Skyline and GTO. However, if I remember correctly, we only got the Supra. We got a couple of grey imports of the others, but it isn't the same. I have to take the Supra.

Fast Four Doors:
My head says the Bimmer, as it is the biggest and most practical, but my heart says the Evo & Subaru. It's a tough choice, but I'd be happy with either of them.

1-Jaguar XJR
2-BMW 540i
3-Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6
4-Toyota Chaser
5-Mercedes Benz C36 AMG
6-Subaru Impreza STi
7-Holden Commodore
8-Ford Falcon
