Would you want a racetrack near you or not?

Yep.

Even if it was a street circuit right on my doorstep, could sell the view to fans for a little under ticket prices. :sly:

I would want one just far enough away to avoid the noise pollution. No living near dragstrips.

Like others said, an hour's not bad at all. Lucky for me, however, it's only about 25 minutes from where I live to Watkins Glen :D

I'd be fine living near large sporting venues because it's a good opportunity to park cars in your yard and make a thousand bucks or so.

Race tracks are all over Indianapolis and surrounding area. Not just the big one that everybody knows either. Dozens more within A few hours. I Don't really go to the other ones though! Just the big one. After more than 20 Indy 500's and 10 or so NASCAR events, they are starting to lose their appeal. Especially the NASCAR event. Too little banking and cars heavier than houses make passing far too infrequent for my tastes.

Historic track though - that's for sure. Set smack in the middle of a neighborhood. Nothing but houses to the east and west.

There's a 3/8 mile dirt oval just a mile away from my house. It's in South Buxton. I love it because I can hear the sound of the Late Model's going around the track on Saturday nights. So my answer is yes.

I'd be perfectly happy with it. My home town is unusual in that there is a wide expanse between the highway and the town itself. That land was originally intended for residential development, but it was totally mismanaged and has been sitting unused for nearly a decade, and the town has started growing out in other directions. It could easily host a racing circuit that is close enough to the town to be accessible, but far enough away that noise pollution would not be a problem.

The only real trouble is that the town is probably too small and too far away from the major population centres to realistically host races.

Yes, bring it!

We have a small oval but something more....substantial would be nice. Drag and SCCA would be cool to. There have been a few SCCA meets at the local college parking lot, but come on.... There's enough open land to spread some asphalt around for a proper meet. :)

So yes, still yes.

15 minutes for me 👍

Here, I will show you a video of the circuit, which is called Juan Manuel Fangio:

It was re-opened this year after almost 15 years.
We went with my father-in-law and a cousin. It was really really awesome.
I will upload some photos and videos if you want 👍

Oulton Park and Donnington Park are both roughly 50 miles away from me (a little over 1 hour's drive). I think both are close enough.

Closest major tracks to me: Barber, 5 hours. Road Atlanta, 6 hours. Sebring, 8 hours. Daytona, 6 hours.

I would love to be closer to any of those.

But I'm not going to pack up, sell the house, change jobs, find a new house, all just to get closer. :dopey:

Sounds local to me. It's 3 or 4 about 2 hours away from me.

New Jersey motor park isn't really a exciting place. I would have to drive 5 hours for a good track like limerock or Watkins glens

Daytona is roughly an hour where I live, and I feel that's local distance. Sebring is two hours away from me, as well.

You lucky son of a female dog!

There's some empty land where I live and its big enough for a 2 mile track. I would love to go there for a day. Maybe a discount for residents would be good. I'm Asian and I'm cheap. What else do you expect?

Buy a couple cones, go to a parking lot. Make a mini silverstone, have fun, run from cops. Repeat

Mallory Park, Silverstone and Donnington Park are all less than an hour away from us. :)

A big problem here in the UK is people buying houses near a circuit, and then complaining about the noise! Lots of circuits are suffering stricter and stricter noise legislation because of this. Makes me mad...you know the circuit is there, you don't want the noise, don't go and live there! :banghead:

Know of any race tracks around our area? The only one I know of is Mission Raceway.

Happily, BC is filled with mountainous roads. Unfortunately, the fastest you can go, legally, is 110 km/h or about 70 mph.

Just Mission Raceway as far as I know, never been there actually.

There's a few kart tracks scattered about of course, about it really.

Here you have to go 55 or less on the mountain roads... Granted, they're tight enough that you'd need a seriously quick car to even consider an average speed higher than 40.

Sadly, they continue to decimate them with all of this money that we dont have, to make them "Straighter". A foolish waste of time.

Don't forget Rockingham, Cadwell and Santa Pod. We're spoilt for choice in the midlands

I live about 1 hour away from croft circuit, and about 2hours away from donnington park. I wouldn't move closer just to a track on my doorstep, we only go to croft once a year and I've never been to donnington, only passed it on the motorway!

I'm about 20-30 minutes away from our local track, Pacific Raceways. It's not a big name or very large track, but from what I can tell, it's an exciting drive. Never been there, because I don't know the scheduling, and my family isn't into motorsports, but I could arrange something.

I often think of tracks not being local to me, and in a UK sense they aren't. But a quick look online reveals there are eleven "motorsport venues" within 50 miles of me, though I'd never even heard of all but four of those - I presume it's counting temporary dirt tracks and the like.

The four I have heard of - Croft Circuit, Teesside Autodrome, Oliver's Mount and Harewood Hillclimb - are all between 20 mins to 1h 30m of me. And yet, stuff isn't held very often so I don't go to them particularly frequently anyway.

Really, I could happily live on the doorstep of tracks over here, as again, nothing is ever on frequently enough for stuff like noise to really bother me. It's much better than living under a flightpath.

It's all about the sense of scale. 1 hour in the US is nothing, but 1 hour in the UK is pretty far away.

I live about 30-45 minutes away from Pacific Raceways, and about 1.5 hours from a brand new race track called The Ridge. Pacific Raceway is suppose to be somewhat challenging, but the surface is trash. I've heard nothing but good things about The Ridge so far.

Good thing both tracks have lapping days, and many local car clubs use both tracks for private lapping days and driving school.

Yes, I'd want one (wouldn't mind the noise pollution). But considering where I live, where in the world would you place it? :sly:

Apparently, there is an actual racetrack on the artificial island to the north, but it's way too small to be useful :grumpy:

I could come up with street circuits, but unless it's on the airport, it'll be tighter than Monaco
