Would you want a racetrack near you or not?

Castle Combe Circuit is ten minutes away, but it's naf. If Silverstone was ten minutes away, that would do very nicely.

From my hometown, it´s 1.5h to the Nurburgring :sly: and 3h to Hockenheim.
I think thats about it, other racetracks are to far away (wouldn´t even drive 3h to Hockenheim).
But one Lap on the Nordschleife is expensive, 26 Euros in fact (32usd).
Sometimes they open the Nordschleife + GP circuit for the price of a normal round on NS, it´s heaps of fun!
I Would love to have more racetracks around my area!

There are a few small ovals an hour away or so, but the closest internationally-known circuit is Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That's about a 4 hour drive. Michigan International Speedway is about 2 hours away, and Belle Isle (when Indycar and ALMS raced on the street circuit) is three hours or so away.

I would love a racetrack near my house.

Not sure my mum would though.

Although Silverstone is not too much of a drive from my house.

Silverstone is 20 mins from me, which is about right... on GP day I wouldn't want to live any nearer than Towcester.

A big problem here in the UK is people buying houses near a circuit, and then complaining about the noise! Lots of circuits are suffering stricter and stricter noise legislation because of this. Makes me mad...you know the circuit is there, you don't want the noise, don't go and live there! :banghead:

I'm afraid that's not just a UK thing; it's happened enough times in the US as well.

I used to live within "audible distance" of Atco Drag-O-Way (or whatever they call it now) in New Jersey and didn't have a problem with it at all :)

I used to live about 30 minutes away from Yas Marina Circuit. It was nice, I could go there anytime and I did. I went for the V8 Supercars, GT1 and GP2 Asia races. I also went a lot so I could go kart.

But there isn't a single race track anywhere near me now :nervous:

I am about 20 minutes from a half mile oval (Lower tier NASCAR series race there), about an hour and a half from Pocono and from BeaveRun. There used to be a dirt track just up the hill from my house, but it went out of business and got replaced with a state prison. Wouldn't mind having one close by.

Oh, yeah, I've autocrossed in my day! But that's not the same thing as watching Audi and Peugeot duke it out for 12 hours, is it? Or Spies vs. Mladdin at the hills and turns of Barber.

Autocrossing doesn't compare to being there when Paul Newman drove a Mustang at Daytona for his share of 24 hours, at 70 years of age. Nor does it bring the sound of Mazda's 4-rotor GTP coming down the back straight at Road Atlanta.

Turns out that Mallory Park is about the same distance from me as Oulton and Donnington.

Also, the closest venue to me though would be Loton Park Hill Climb which is a little over 30 minutes drive away, plus I've actually been there once before. I did used to go past there at least twice a week.

Yes I would like a track near me. A few years ago there was a thing about a a track on a ballot where I live. But sadly the people in my community sad no. But now, I have to drive over a three and a half hours to go to the nearest track.

The nearest racetrack to me is Mondello Park, which is 35km away from me as the crow flies.

In my home city there is a lower-level NASCAR Oval, an hour away is Thunderhill Raceway, home of the "Worlds Longest Endurance Race" (25 Hours of Thunderhill), and Im about 3 Hours from Infineon, and 5 from Laguna Seca.

Do you know any drag strips near Philadelphia? I would take my bicycle there lol

Get. Out. Right. NOW!

Combe is my favourite circuit in the U.K, so friendly. Not many big events so you don't get the posing racing fans taking up room either, perfect. Racing as it should be.

Only around 25 minutes away too!

You're tempting me to move to the UK

I don't even know if there's any race tracks near me at all. The only tracks at all that are near me are a couple of karting tracks if that counts.

Frankly, I'd trade having the Nurburgring in my backyard for living on a utterly beautiful island like that.

Since they banned Touring Cars it hasn't been the same, the only interesting features of the circuit are the two chicanes. Everything they now do is either Formula Ford or a historic motor show for Minis.

How do you mean "banned touring cars"? It's never hosted the BTCC (and I got bored double-checking years previous to my own memories when I reached 1967...) and it certainly still hosts other classes of saloon car racing. What exactly did they "ban"?

And as for the chicanes being the only interesting bits... Camp corner? Quarry? Tower? Combe has some of the best corners in the country...

The closest race track near me got torn down for a housing complex and the police minister is saying if people want to drag race each other they should do it on the race track(but which there are none)

I would not want to live there.

Reasons:
Minor earthquake and a tsunami wipes it all out.

Global warming is melting ice caps, sea level will turn it in to an underwater city for fish.
