WRC 8: General Discussion (Release: september 2019)

Thank you! It would be nice to be able to adjust the number of stages per rally, running just four stages can make it really difficult to recover from a single mistake.

Yea, this is one of the few disappointments this game has given me, and it's the biggest TBH. Why not be able to run all stages in the career at every level? They do IRL.

There are a couple other minor things, like the crew member names, I'm sure my South Korean mechanic Anisa Clark would agree. And it's not even like they are randomly generated as we all have the same crew members!

Then also having to unlock the 3 stages of meteorology in career mode to know what the end of the stages weather might look like. I mean it's quick enough to do if it's the first thing you spend your R&D points on, but really, you have no idea?

My Meteo: "well it's currently sunny, and I have no idea what going to happen in the next 15 minutes, but it should start raining in a few hours when we do stage 2, but yea, then I have no idea what'll happen in the 5 minutes after that"

Me: "What the hell am I paying you for?"

But that's about it, though.

Right. I understand they're trying to ease you into the career mode, but a lot of sims let you customize race length. Then again, maybe the repair costs would be too high for the amount of money you earn at lower levels, but they could just increase the payout depending on how many stages you run.

When did you get your WRC offer Pfei? I simply don't get one. I did 1X JWRC 5x WRC2 and still no sign of it.

Edit: finally! I had to sign with Ford in WRC2 to get tests for the WRC. Did one for Citroën and in the stars in went from 31 to 58 for the relationship in WRC. There is progress :)

Tried the WRC machinery in Quick Mode. Anyone else think those machines are completely and utterly bonkers :dunce:

End of the season with Ford. Again nothing! I am starting to have serious doubts if there isn't a bug in the careermode. I signed with Skoda now and I am of to my 7th season in WRC2 :ill:

This game isn't just beautiful! It is actually stunning to look at and Turkey must be some of the most terrifying rally-ing I've ever done :nervous::bowdown:

Holy ****. I was doing okay in Turkey until I hit the SSS on Day 2. It's so confusing to know where to go out of the donuts. I went the wrong way three times out of the third one and got 36 seconds worth of penalties. I smashed into a barrier through a chicane because I couldn't tell where it was and destroyed the car. Jesus.

Really not liking the team management side of things. This isn't the game's fault as it's something i'm not interested in dealing with personally. Should i stick with it for it to get better as i progress? Or should i just jump into season mode?

That's totally a matter of personal preference. I personally like the team management aspect, however I think I've discovered a bug, in that members of my team keep randomly disappearing. Like, I know I had more than one meteorologist, and I still have extra room in my 'reserve', but suddenly I find that I only have one meteorologist on staff, so I have to go and hire a new one. If my old meteorologist quit for some reason, I'd hope they would at least put in their two weeks notice or something. I guess I'm going to have to start including and enforcing non-compete / "gardening leave" clauses in my team members' contracts!

So i changed the pace notes from "very early" to "very late" now its much better. Seems that setting is reversed. Now calls are early, especially when approaching those hairpins.
I'll have to try this.

I just wish there less pauses in the calls.

"Caution... flat left... intoimmediateleftonedefinitelydon'tcut."

Yeah I think you could have been just a bit more economical on that call. Probably could have done without the "flat left" bit.

definitelydon'tcut

Yeah, WTF is with the "definitely don't cut" calls? Were the normal "don't cut" calls just optional suggestions? If a corner warrants a "don't cut" call, I expect there had better be a damn good reason for it. Like hinklesteins, or equivalent. "Definitely" is four syllables I never need to hear from my co-driver.

Not that WRC8 is unique in the overly-verbose co-driver competition. Phil Mills can shove his "very tight hairpin" calls where the sun don't shine. "Acute" is the word he's looking for.

Haha just did this one, it's pretty mental

Is very mental, confusing as hell the first time around.
I'm not ashamed to admit that i watched the stage on YouTube after going the wrong way several times on my first try. I then had to restart the stage after coming into the "donuts around island" too fast after the jump. Mental stage indeed.
After more time with the game i've got used to the handling to the point where i'm able to rotate the car to preempt the next corner sequence without issue. Still doesn't feel as natural as DR2 but is good enough for me.

Finished my first JWRC season in second place on Medium difficulty. Not too bad considering massive front end damage at Corsica.

It’s worth mentioning the damage model is pretty darn good. Just about everything had critical damage and the car limped along how I would imagine. Not just a power drop and pulling in one direction like other games.

I just got round to playing this on my PC and it is a great improvement. @doblocruiser on PS4 are the cars much faster than WRC7? The cars this time round seem to shift and be really fast (I don't recall WRC7 being this fast) or maybe I have been on DR2 too long! Overall I like the improvements and new UI. I look forward to trying some of the tracks and cars out.

The WRC cars are bonkers, just bonkers. I have a really hard time adapting to them because they are so fast. They indeed seem quite a few notches faster than the WRC machinery from 2017.

I tried it, and then went to season mode. Too much busy work for me, and you can't hire a team principle to take care of all the rubbish for you.

It's a good inclusion by Kylotonn to get the immersion going, and I do get why a lot of people like it, but I'm in it for the driving, not the RPG elements.

Yeh, the WRC machines take some getting used to. After two seasons with the WRC2 cars it was a shock taking to Monte Carlo in the C3 WRC, despite tasting the car in the tryouts (which netted me the WRC drive eventually).
I'm reeeeeaally having to pay attention to the pacenotes and the weather so as to not bin the car and consequently fail the season objective (finish better than 3rd overall in each rally). Still not convinced by the career team fluff but the driving more than makes up for it.

I love the career mode, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for in a racing game. DiRT 4 had a team management mode, but WRC 8 is better in most (if not all) respects. It’s not only about managing your people and car development, but also about handling your resources and more importantly your time. Choosing your own path in the calendar and determining which events to select for the betterment of your progress makes it a winner. Let’s say it satisfies the inner micro manager in me.

Granted there are times I want to just buckle up and drive, and that’s what DiRT Rally 2.0 is for me.

The season objective is really unrealistic... Come-on top 3 in each of the 13 rallies means winning the title like a boss.
