I doubt the above pic is photoshopped, that amount of air is quite possible! Here's another pic for your enjoyment:

No chance in hell, that's all real. The Finland officials put measurements on the side of the road ( the white numbers on black panels) so fans could see how many feets the cars were traveling through the air.

Just a detail. It's finland so it's not feets, it's meters. I watched the finnish rallye this season on tv and the longest jump was by McRae I think. Anyway the length was 55 meters...

Wrong. I happened to watch the rally too (wonder why ;)) and not only from TV. The longest jump was made by Märtin with a speed of about 175km/h and length of 57 meters.

Ah ok, you're right on this one. I recalled a ford doing that leap though and my thoughts went straight to McRae aka Mr. full throttle.

EDIT: but he's not ford now I know...:banghead:

He's driving, on gravel, at 130mph with trees 6 feet away from his car, people leaning towards him from the verges, deep ditches on either side (and dragonteeth in Germany...!), with jumps, yumps, dips and hairpins - guided only by a man sat beside him telling him the corner 4 corners after this one in code... And he's never seen the road before.

Wouldn't YOU be worried? :D

i thought in WRC regulations, they get a run beforehand. in the canadian/american regualtions, i dont think they get to traverse the course before hand tho.

They get a 'recce' run through the course in a gravel or road car (not a WRC car) before the event at road speeds. This is to allow for the fine tuning of pace-notes. Still what sound right on your pace-notes at 45mph could be very wrong at 120mph.

On the subject of American/Canadian regs, if your refering to the SCCA rallys I've watched a few and its not bad stuff (Sno drift in particular was excellent this year).

Thats 187 feet and 109 mph, for those who don't speak metric :)

I saw on TV briefly a guy trying to jump like 350 feet or something in a Jaguar... it had to be the worst planned stunt I've ever seen, Jaguars aren't as good at jumping as their name suggests.
