Given that CFM is dropping hints that next week's race will be on dirt, I think it's ironic that I'm going to have to miss it...

...because I'm competing in a rally :)

So if anyone's in the area (South-East Queensland, Oz) next weekend (3-5 June) come to Caloundra and say hello. 👍

Woa, coolies! 👍

Well, i guess i could stop in and introduce myself anytime now. I'm Brett, 17 years old, from wisconsin. I'm a skateboarder/party boy/gamer. I joined the WRS a few weeks ago, but never really got the chance to have some good seat time due to school and work. I'm looking forward for some good weeks to come, and hopefully I start to improve from that 20-something finish in my debut week 7.

Hey Brett,

What's up? Welcome to the WRS and D2. I'm having a hard time finding time to play, as well. It may be a couple of months until I drive in the WRS again. :(

Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself and as always, have fun. 👍

Hiya Guys! 👍 The "Old Geezer" checkin' in at the urging of "MinorShunt." Seems I've been promoted outta Division III. Been with the WRS since Race #1 & although Hot Laps are NOT my favorite form of competition, they're by far the most popular...so here I am.
I only run the races I "Fancy" (99.6% thru GT4 & the ONLY Skyline I've driven was the Pace Car used to win that series. Just do NOT understand all the Hoopla over those things!) So I won't be clogging up the race threads when "Land Barges" are the ride of choice and I'll try to stay outta your way when we use real race cars! ...O.G. :D

:-D

Week 7 was my first, too.

I'm Nathan, 23, from Massachusetts. When I'm not playing GT, I'm either surfing the Net or riding my mountain bike (rode 1200 miles in the past 12 months).

Sup All,

Welcome everyone!!! Congrats on the promotion O.G. I hope you find your Geritol, hehe. Youre gonna need it against some of these D2 dudes and Dudettes. :)

Welcome Nathan. Enjoy you're stay.

Hi peoples 👍 . I got promoted at the end of week 5 :) .
Sorry I haven't said hello sooner. I haven't had mush time lately.
I look forward to learning and competiting with you. 👍

I feel a bit strange being the one to say this since I'm pretty new to WRS too, but welcome O.G. and Large_Fryz to Div 2! Competition seems pretty stiff here so look forward to some tough races 👍

I'd like to ask a general question of everyone: how much time roughly do you spend on the WRS each week? I'm curious to know how long it takes the front-runners to post those outstanding laps. Also, maybe a little OT, but if we all knew ages and occupations (roughly) it might give a good idea as to how much time everyone has available...? 💡

I just don't have enough time to devote to the WRS anymore. And it shows. I was 4th in week one and now am averaging 20th or something every other week. I have a new job which keeps me very busy. I recently got married so I have to remember to keep my priorities in order. And I have a commitment 3 times a week for my martial arts training. On top of that I still play GT mode and recently purchased a DFP. So when I do play it is mostly with cars of my choosing and not CFM's. Which is too bad, because I love the competition the WRS brings. Welcome new D2ers!

Another promotion?!?! What is the world comming to? :D I don't need any more competition, here. hehe. Good job. 👍

I'm 27 yrs old. I currently am going to school full full full time. I'm gone from 6:00am until 8:30pm, every weekday. I won't be participating in the WRS for about another 2 month or so, because of this. But, when I was driving I was putting in about 50 - 100 laps a week. and not placing too well. I think I got 11th or so, once. If I had more time to devote, I'm sure I'd place better. Just as many other drivers would.

I believe I heard that the top D1 guys are running 200 laps or more each week! Insane. I wish I had that kind of time to play GT every week.....Aahh, heaven.

Hey samurai dont tell us that you are leaving us too ? :(((
I also have time consumming work, 2x a week i have japanese classes, im also working at getting some second good highschool (masters degree)(ech i dont know how to write it in english :/) and also almost dont have time to play (yesterday session was an exception ;-) )(I also had some good times (as for me) at the beginning) but i will stay - just for fun - probably will be demoted but ....

Hey people, I'm from sunny South Africa, Pretoria to be exact, work from 8 to 5 (except week-ends at least) as a network administrator of roughly 50 servers. Will have Internet at home soon (hehe on companies cost), so should be able to check up on GTP a bit more then. I usually do about 50 laps I reckon, but also not enough time to do more ... or at least I get bloody frustrated to do more !

From what I've read in posts #190-192 above, you ALL have your heads "Screwed On" correctly! 👍 This is a GAME! Play it when you need some ENJOYMENT...Nothing MORE...Nothing LESS! ( Just the blatherings of an Old Man.) ...O.G. :D

Well since I started the idea and some people at least didn't think it was a terrible one ;) I'm 28 and live in Cape Town, South Africa. I work full-time as a software engineer, and I live with my girlfriend, so GT-time is a bit limited. So far (2 weeks) I've run maybe 4-6 hours a week on the WRS (I have no idea how many laps that is) and my single-player game is suffering as a result...which is why I'll probably give this week's event a miss. I say "probably" because my competitive nature has already led me to run about 30 minutes last night just to see how far off the pace I am...I just can't help myself, though I really dislike rallying.

Anyway, hope to hear from more of you! It seems to take a while to get to know some of your fellow division runners here so I'm thinking this may help a bit and bump posting on this thread.

Now, if you don't mind, race 4 of the Pan Euro Championship is about to start and there's a smarta** in an SLR McLaren who punted my T350C off-track at Sarthe and needs a good reminder that speed isn't everything. Let's see how he handles that ugly brick around Monaco...

Hello everyone,

Thought I should maybe introduce myself as it's my 4th week here - only raced two of those because of time commitments etc.

I'm 32 and live in London UK. I'm a lecturer in music theory/analysis at the University here. Really enjoying the intensely fierce competition at the moment - it's forcing me to improve my technique and to drop some of the sloppy habits I've been nurturing over the years since GT1 came out. I reckon I probably get to put in about 5-6 hours a week maybe, except for the first week at New York when I was laid up in bed with the fevers for 4 days - so every waking minute when I wasn't delerious or foaming at the mouth was spent on it, which probably accounts for my high placing that week!

Anyway, looking forward to racing against all of you in the weeks & months to come... 👍

Hello, another new racer here and I have to say I'm pretty happy to go straight into Div.2 and finished mid-table in the Week 8 race after only a couple of hours on the track :D

I will be representing Scotland in these races whenever I get the time, any other scots here?

Congrats on the promotion and Welcome to Div2 UB.... Err, OG, whatever :sly:
Good to see you running and hopefully i wont get beat too bad by ya.

Welcome to all the new D2'ers. And especially to O.G. for the promotion. Glad to see another guy racing GT4 with a few years under the belt. I've been thinking I was the oldest around here at 42, but maybe I'm not the most senior here.

All these young bulls been runnin wild around here; it's fun to watch. Meanwhile, I think I'll sit back with an adult beverage and relax with the missus.

Good racing everyone!

Wow! Great stuff from everyone. The thing I like about WRS is all the guys from around the world with the same interests, and the same competetive spirit to have a little fun with. I wrote a short profile a few weeks back when I first joined WRS, but a few more details......I live in Wisconsin, USA which is in the north central part of the states around the great lakes. I work as a sales engineer, selling and doing proposals for factory automation, so I travel quite a bit. My wife and I have one son that just graduated from HS last friday night. WOOHOO! My son likes the shooter games and has never given the GT series a second thought, but that's ok. Each to their own. A common thread with a lot of guys here is time to do WRS. For me, the only time I usually have is late at night when I'm imitating a zombie and can't sleep. Either that or a rainy Saturday. My other "passion" besides racing is get ready.....golf! I play a lot of tournaments in the summer, and right now it is summer here, so that is where my spare time is going for the most part.
I agree with O.G. that I prefer the real race cars, but oddly enough, I don't seem to be as competetive in them??? Where I have done well so far in WRS is the "land yacht" races like in the skyline and the srt-4. go figure.

Now down to business. Can anyone give a fellow D2er a couple of pointers on rally? I thought I was pretty good at it in Gt3, (well it WAS easy) but I can't get this Accent thing to do anything. I'm embarassed to say that my first attempt last night, the best split I could get was a 1'23.xxx and that was dirty. :ouch: In a hour or so of trying, I never got a clean lap. HELP!
MS out. :)

The one thing I do that helps me more than anything else to to go slower into the turn than I think I should. Typically, if I think I am getting into the turn at the proper speed I am going to fast.

Mr. P had a few good pointers in a post on another thread... stay to the inside of the turns as much as possible, learn to use the throttle to balance the car.

If you're having trouble with staying clean, just slow down. Once you have a clean lap then go looking for places to pick up speed. Take your time and have fun with the sliding.

Mr. P. is the one to listen to on this, but I'll attempt a few tips which have helped me out so far.

I'm assuming you're in manual tranny mode. That's a must to control wheelspin, and thus, sliding.

With practice, learn throttle modulation and how to set the car up (meaning setting the angle of the car with steering input and speed) BEFORE a corner arrives. In GT4, if you react too late and too close to the beginning of a turn, you'll slide like you're on a skating rink with slick tires.

Of course, slow-in fast-out applies in rallying, just like any type of racing.

Once you learn the track and the corner complexes, and where the car will be upset, and where you know it can stick in the corner, you'll be able to cut some very good laps. It took me about 10 laps to really get it down. Also, learn where the idiotic invisible walls are. Some of them seem to jut out into the track much more than they should.

I hope this helps. Drooz out...

THANX for the Warm Welcome guys! Good to be back among some "Kindred Spirits" Apparently I upset the "T-time Nazis" over in Division III so I guess it's good I got the promotion!
For those of you who don't know me yet...YES I really am 59 years young, (60 in 2 more months) & was formerly know here and elsewhere as "UB57." (Kind of a goofy moniker but it was all I could think of at the time...too many b-days have come & gone since then so it's O.G. from now on!)
Excellent advice has already been put forward, (WHERE were you guys when I drove like an Idiot?) To many years of racing 125cc Motocross developed some bad habits. 100% Throttle or 100% Brake worked well enough there but it took me 2 years to figure out that it didn't work in GT3! Throttle modulation is exceedingly important...more so w/GT4 even than GT3.
One more hint for DFPro users...you might try NOT using 900 degrees of steering (Can't remember what the other setting is :irked: ) but it works better for me. It DOES however take a little while to adapt to & WILL screw you up for a bit when you switch back!
THANX Again...O.G. :D

WELCOME TO DIV 2 O.G.!

The Div 3 people can be a real pain in the rear sometimes, so we're glad to have you over here.

I look forward to our matchups in the coming weeks. Funny about all brake or all gas...that sounds like Jacques Villeneuve's driving style...with his well-documented 2 centimeter throttle pedal travel.

Now with this week's race, it's gonna throw you off even more. The rallying physics are truly horrible.

Good luck though!

Howdy howdy, can't remember if I've introduced myself yet here. Been racing for a while, found gtplanet just after I got GT4 after having trouble with the GTWRC (OG's specific post showed up on google and inspired me). I also try to autox as much as I can, but school is often too busy.

I had a fun first week and look forward to many more. (Hopefully that childish T-time business can be forgotten). See you guys around! 👍

kennythebomb
That...pretty sums of the driving style of my dad! lol

We dads are like that you know. hehehe Comes from learning to drive in the 70's where you had little drum brakes, so stomp the brakes, 350HP V-8's to go like hell, and hang on if there's a curve! :scared:

Hey minorshunt, nice to see another guy from wisconsin on here. I graduate from HS next year, so i guess i'm a year younger than your son, lol. Where at in wisconsin are you from? I live close to the fond du lac area.

Aw man you live down south where the livin' is easy. :D I live way up north around the Rice Lake/Hayward area where all you "southern" guys come to vacation in the summer. I used to live around Kenosha, Zion, Northern Illinois, etc. but we got tired of going back and forth all the time so moved here. Basically I'm always on vacation that way and don't have to maintain 2 places. 👍 My job is such that it doesn't matter where I live.

I see there are a couple others from Wisconsin on the board. Icemanshooter23 in Div1 I think?
I've kinda noticed that the fast guys in WRS are from colder parts of the world. Coincidence? Although I have no explanation for Australia and S. Africa. LOL

Hey maybe we should start a leaderboard based on the average mean temp in the area the driver lives in. :P

GO PACK!!!

haha cool man, our average temp. is like 68F ... apparently where Ilive is one of the best climates in the world ... never too cold or too hot ... but I've always wanted to see snow with my own 2 eyes ... sound like a kid now hehe
