The n2a "789".

No, it's not a chopped up classic. It just looks like one (or 3, I guess.)

This seems like the appropriate thread to add a picture of this, which I took at a car museum in New Mexico when I was on holiday last year:

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to what on earth it is... because I think it looks awesome, in a weird kind of way. It's obviously had the custom treatment to a degree, and the interior was great too:

I do know it's obviously some kind of Chevrolet, judging by the badge on the steering wheel. I'd love to see what a standard one looked like.

Is that an Australian Ute behind it? The Chevy looks 1940s to me, start looking for Chev pickups of that era.

Behind in which direction?

Not sure what the teal-coloured car is, any guesses from this photo?

As for the red one with wood panelling, Studebaker maybe? Or a Ford?

As for the Chevy, after a bit of searching it could be a mid-40s Chevy COE truck such as this one:

I meant the teal one. Looks like an American Ford or something.

That mid '40s pickup is surely it. Except your shiny one has a shortened wheelbase. I guess I was right then :scared:

Yes, it is the wagon, but Ford and Holden did seem to have a connection even in the immediate post-war years.

Actually, if it was a Holden, it would be closer to a GM product; they subsidized Holden since 1931. My mistake. Probably a Ford then.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up! I did have an inkling it was a Ford because I recognised the shape, but the grill did confuse me (and of course, I didn't look for markings on the car when it was there, I only thought about what it might be after...)

I've known about this for a while, but it's too cool to not share:
may I present the 1939 Antarctic Snow Cruiser
418611557_b3e4ae2993.jpg

Length: 55 Feet 8 Inches
Wheel Base: 20 Feet
Height: 12 Feet(min)
Height: 16 Feet(max)
Width: 19 Feet 10½ Inches
Weight: 75,000 Lbs. (loaded)
Tires: Goodyear 12 ply 120 x 66 x 33½
Engines: Two Six Cylinder Cummins Diesels 150 Horsepower each
Drive Motors: Four General Electric 75 Horsepower each
Speed: 30 mph (Maximum) Range: 5,000 Miles

The wheels could go up and down, allowing the body to slide across crevices up to 15 feet wide. The only problems were the gearing wasn't correct and the tires weren't grooved, but rather smooth, thus they were never able to actually use it.

I first read about it in the Clive Cussler novel, Atlantis Found. At first I thought it was made up, but then looked online and found out it was indeed built.

Here's a picture to show how big it actually was:

this thing is the most awesome vehicle ever constructed by man. I was really sad to read it might be kilometers under the ocea, just think how incredibly ambitious this project was back in the day, and it looked so bad-ass

I wonder if that's related to the Tundra Train that Bob Chandler got the wheels and tires off of to build this...

I say related, because Bigfoot 5 has Firestones, and the tires on that vehicle are clearly Goodyears...

-> Intead of getting our wheels bigger and bigger. I'll go back to the small side. ;)

-> I didn't hear about this car til last year. But it came back to me yesterday while I was updating my Vehicle Wish List on the other thread. 💡

-> Most of us know that Greenpeace, the 'notorious' eco-activist who usually hates cars roaming the streets and saving whales.

-> Don't worry, I don't label them as the 'bad people' of society, they're just a tad too aggressive doing their thing. :)

-> Here is the car:

^ I kinda like the styling of this 'eco-car'. :boggled:

:dunce:

Mmh, that's nice.

My only contribution would be the GMC Syclone and Typhoon, and the Weissman GT, which they've deleted my Wiki on.

Hm, the car looks better, but aluminum drums don't exactly sound safe to me, and, as typical of cars built by Liberals, it's WAY underpowered. Although, the Twingo doesn't exactly sound powerful to begin with.

I think it's butt ugly, slow and a pile of trash for my monster truck (if I had one) to crush into pieces.

Meh, couldn't be bothered about that car. If its such an eco friendly car, it should have outsold the Prius by now..... A big fail if you ask me.....

As for me, this was one of the coolest findings yet. Its a little thing that I know little of, the Corvette. But not just the Z06 or even the ZR1, but the Corvette CERV. After reading some of the post in the Le Mans thread, I just found this out. Seems pretty cool, but too bad it never went from concept into production..... :indiff:

Oh, and anyone manage to have a photo of a CERV IV? Can't find it on Google.... :guilty:

Now this is only recent, but it's arrived to no fanfare...well, at all, really. Strange, for what is supposed to be an Impreza/Evo alternative.

The first CERVs were race cars? Awesome. Perhaps they would have picked up where Eagle (Gurney) and Chaparral left off.

I nominate the complicated Spectre R42:
r42_1.jpg

I suppose that if development was not protracted, it would not have remained profitable for very long, what with the offerings of Ferrari and Lamborghini at the time. It still looks nice, though.

The Saab Turbo X is a very good car according to Autoblog's recent review.
I knew about the CERV III Corvette (even if I didn't know wat it was called), but never knew about the others. I'll read that wiki page.
The Spectre R42 looks quite nice indeed.

Edit: Hot damn those CERV Corettes are quick! CERV I has a 260kw V8 and only weighs 726kg! CERV II had 370kw, and did 0-100km/hr in 2.8sec!!! Top speed was over 320km/hr. And CERV III had a twin turbo DOHC LT5 V8 with 485kw and 888Nm torque. Top speed was 362km/hr. And that was in 1990.

Well, CERV I was an opern-wheeled race-car. It is actually quite heavy when you consider that the BRM P261 had a slightly smaller V-8 engine and weighed 466kg.
