Your love for Forza vs your disgust of MS...

My phone has all the features I want from it... I can make calls with it!!! As you can see it´s not a Smart-phone, it doesn´t even have a internet connection. And the camera is on the back, the side it is usually lying on if it isn´t in my pocket.

On a Laptop you have control over the camera settings, turning it off shouldn´t be a problem even for none-specialists (I taped up the camera just for the picture, I´m not that paranoid  but the camera is turned off) And, of course, unlike the Xbox One, the Laptop continues to work online without a camera connected.
Your camera isn't what spies on you when it comes to your phone & laptop....

Is there a new phone with an infrared camera which senses heartrate and collects biometric data for the alleged purpose of advertising? Whoooweeee Sign me up. I don't see how that could ever go wrong.

Enough with this "spybox" garbage. Your smartphone likely has a camera. Your laptop likely has a camera. Either of those could easily (and have been) hacked into.

That's completely bizarre nonsense, and coming from a poster named HAL perfect irony as well.

The xbone is meant -MS made this - tv,tv,tv,tv,spooaaaats - exceedingly clear as a living room device has and the camera and mic cannot be turned off. So it is directed at me, filming me while I watch tv, watch movies, play games, surf the internet, it is watching my children and it is watching my neighbours children if they happen to visit mine and stumble into the living room. And while it's already doubtful I can give up my privacy rights, I'm pretty positive I cannot give up theirs. Predicting here and now this **** is illegal in Germany and countries with similar privacy rights.

Comparing that with a laptop, mine doesn't have a camera, only gets connected to the internet when needed, is a travesty.

First of all, thanks for recognizing it's HAL and not Halo

Second, you seem to have flubbed up your facts. The Kinect can be completely disabled, so all of your points are moot.

First of all, you're welcome.

Second, I seem to have flubbed up my facts. However I blame inept MS marketing for that :P , as I was following their presentation and the media reporting since at least losely. In other words closer than prolly 90% or 95% of potential customers and the 'always on' nature of Kinect 2.0 was published widely.

Still we don't know what exactly the machine will do with camera and mic off and if it will just be a black brick trying to look harmless.

But cheers for correcting me; I indeed didn't know.

👍

I agree, there's more to be learned about it and MS is doing a poor job of actually dispelling myths.

That's a pretty bad comparison, though; because it wasn't Sony's policy to give hackers their customer information.

And where has it been said that it's Microsoft's policy to give out your information?
Oh wait, they said it's their policy not to. That's right.

Edit: Ultimately, neither company have a desire to compromise their customer's privacy. The Sony hack was obviously unintended (although it certainly raises questions about why that data was not encrypted, but that's a different discussion) and MS have said that they want to give the customer control over how much information is collected (up to turning off Kinect) and how that information is used. All the bluster and bull:censored: about this is just that, coupled with the admittedly poor handling of the issue by MS.

Your internet browser knows what news stories you've read. Kinect has the potential to know if you're sympathetic to an extremist group, angry at your head of state or attracted to children by your involuntary responses to the news stories you've read...
This disregards how many people actually use their computer.

Yes, your internet browser knows the news stories you've read, and it also knows the websites you visit, the comments you make, and it's all done under the veil of anonymity, information that is incredibly telling. They're a better indication than anything the Xbox One will be able to tell.

Edit: Just stumbled onto this: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/16/banned-xbox-one-accounts-will-retain-access-to-purchased-games/

Major Nelson had a clear answer for future banned users on Xbox One: "Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased."
And also...
As for what will happen if, down the road, Xbox One's authentication servers are shut down, Major Nelson couldn't say. "I'll get the real answer, I just don't know it yet," he said.

Ten, it's really hard to think of a person which makes up even more bs about a company than you.
I don't have to make up squat. Microsoft is it's own minefield of bad publicity, and the scary thing is they act like it doesn't matter. They just throw money and spokespeople at every issue until it's smothered.

And I know that I can be a little slow sometimes, but this IS the "...disgust of MS..." thread. Just do tell me what you expect to find in here. ;) If hatred of Microsoft upsets some of you, might I suggest that participating in this thread might have a few negative connotations? Just a thought.

And you guys can continue to be shocked that MS isn't loved by a lot of people, but I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that it might have something to do with their attitude and how they even treat their customers. And hey, maybe the migration from businesses to entirely UNIX/Linux based solutions is just IT guys trying out a new flavor of computing for variety...

Microsoft can do whatever they want with their new console, nobody is forcing anyone to get one.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it. 💡

You're absolutely right. I guess that's why there are significantly more people pre-ordering the PS4 instead of the Xbone. No one has to take MS's silly restrictions if they don't want to.

Maybe. Then, maybe not: "We Are Watching You Act of 2013" was introduced five days ago.

But anyway, it seems quite a few people follow the "don't buy it" advice on their own.

Hence why Microsoft is getting annihilated by Sony right now. 💡

Not at all. The majority of the people saying 'Oh huhoh. Microsoft is getting their asses handed to them' are the 5% of people that call themselves gamers. In reality that whole debate is just a bunch of bitching.

Honestly, my disgust with Microsoft is only slightly more than the disgust I've had with Turn 10 since the release of FM3....when the decision was made to stop trying to make the best console simulation racing game they could, and instead focus on fluff and casual buyers with little to no regard for what racers want.

FM5 is only going to be the latest extension of that trend. No night/weather. Supposedly can't do it. Wrong. They can't do it because they're wasting time and resources on stuff like Autovista for every car and trying to find new ways to prop up the lame "economy" in the game or scheming ways to squeeze every penny possible out the consumer. Porsche not in the game at the start and everyone is doing the usual blaming of everyone but T10. While Dan sits there in his office pondering when and at what cost to release the Porsche DLC pack again. Turn 10 has become EA. And this coming from a guy who used to LOVE everything Turn 10 and Forza.

But my disgust with MS does actually outweigh the disgust with T10. Forced Kinect, always on, always snooping, have to be connected, can't resale games. Can't take it. Not from the company that is partnered with the media outlet that plays head cheerleader for the guy in the office that's targeting Americans because they don't fall in line with his agenda.

Source needed, please.

Why would anyone blame Turn 10? Are they in possession of the Porsche license, and can actively dictate who can and can't use it based on what's assumed to be nothing more than an allotted monetary value, not to mention what can and can't be included as well?

These conspiracy theories become more and more foolish by the day. Why would anyone sit in their office actively contemplating ways to damage their own reputation? If that were the case, why not make Porsche DLC starting with FM2?

Why isn't Porsche in Horizon then?

Same here, what a disappointment when Forza 3 was released. I even defended them to my friends for the first few months thinking that they would correct the issues but never happened. Still a good game but could have been so much better.

I seem to remember seeing your GamerTag up near the top of the leaderboards in Forza2 in quite a few places or am I confusing you with someone else?

Yea, it's funny. A lot of my friends are diehard GT fans even after their disappointment with 5. But I used to spend countless hours defending and talking about the great stuff T10 used to do with FM2. But after FM2 they took all of that and just chunked it out the door. Now you go look at their forums and half of them are someone begging for a unicorn car. It's sad.

And yea, that was me. I spent far too many hours bettering my times in every mode on that game. Hotlap wasn't enough, I had to do career, exhibition and TT's as well. Quite insane now that I think about it.

What issues, if you dont mind me asking?

Microsofts F'd when people who know nothing about gaming said its f'd.. . Ps3 global sales have surpassed the three sixty , there are more working ps3's out there than 360's . Microsoft got cocky... and there paying the price.
I mean how many of my non gamer friends ( who own a console may I add ) Have told me, there not getting the new xbox because A they don't have internet at home * lets face it, if you have a phone many don't need a home internet service!* B they do have internet but don't play online ! C there smart and know half the stuff ms is doing is BS * im sorry but putting up with it is pretty stupid and apathetic to basic rights.. hey you use your shirt right I made it , !! * D. The games are generally lacking... * yeah the xbox has had a lackluster set of exclusives.* E Public opinion is at an all time low.. parents who buy consoles who don't know anything aren't so happy about the always online / no used games / no backwards compatibility..
The XBONE is baby brother.. He is always watching and listening...

Hilarious, my friends that have little kids are getting the Xbox one because they love the kinect games. I think the only people crying are the vocal drunks and drug users from what i've tried to read.

There were several actually. The one that drew the most heat was the removal of user created public lobbies followed by the AWD swap issues and the removal of the ability to tune in a lobby. They also removed the local leaderboards, career leaderboards, exhibition modes, Lots of tire options. They broke the ABS system, added the manual clutch advantage which serious hurt the competition for those who liked to drive with an auto trans or used a MS wheel but did not want to use a button for a clutch. They also messed up the web based leadboards for Forza 2 as soon as Forza 3 was revealed and the web based boards have never worked right in Forza 3 or 4 even though they were pretty much flawless in Forza 2. They have also had issues with the online servers for the last 4 years, I can't tell you how many times I have tried to get to the leaderboards only to see that spinning circle followed by server not available, was not an issue until Forza 3

There were lots of people who quit playing Forza after a short while on Forza 3. During Forza 2 there where lots of people I could race with every day even right before Forza 3 was released. About 80% of those quit playing Forza within 30 days of the release of Forza 3. A few came back for Forza 4 but quit again after a short while.

As of Forza 4 they did fix the AWD swap issue and they did give us back the ability to create a public lobby but even now it is easier to get a good user lobby going in Forza 2 than in Forza 4.

Shortly after Forza 3 was released there were 100s if not 1000s of people complaining about the things they removed but the response from T10, was to lock the threads, ban the users or not allow the comments to be posted at all.

For once, I can actually agree with you on all points above. Save for the MP stuff as that had no effect on me, but I'm aware of those problems all the same.

The whole public shutout was a really boneheaded move and something I still don't understand to this day. It goes without saying I don't care for the official forum whatsoever, but the atmosphere in particular is pretty goddamn depressing compared to the one here.
