I'd be in my bed as I was and i can see around the room yet i cant move,

In the deepest stages of sleep the motor functions of your brain shut down, so you are effectively paralyzed. If you wake up abruptly it can take a few seconds for your brain to start up again, so you can see and hear and all that stuff, but you can't move for a short period of time. It doesn't happen all the time, it has never hapenned to me, but I learned about it in psychology.

I would always dream in my early years that I was a kid being chased by wolves. I run as fast as I can, but I barely move, the wovles get closer and closer, but I never acually get caught by them.

I don't know if its only me, but sometimes I know that I am in a dream, so I can control myself. I's almost like a simulation.

Yes, I've got that once. That was really scary.

PERFECT BALANCE

My earlier post (post #36) is almost the same as yours, and no your not the only one.

I don't have nightmares anymore since I have gotten older, when I do they seem more of an adventure than a nightmare.

When I was younger I used to have the usual nightmares where something is chasing you and doesn't matter how hard you try to run its like your in slow motion. I have had a few nightmares where I was well aware it was a dream and I confronted the problem.

I sometimes get them dreams that I know I'm in one and can control myself, but usualy they aren't nightmares, only "bad dreams", not scary enough to be a nightmare. I can tell myself to wake up if things start to get bad.

The slow running, well, I get that too... Probably the most annoying dreams I ever get.

Oh, and pinching to make sure you are not in a dream doesn't work! I tried it several times and I never woke up. :grumpy:

this is not a bad idea.... i havnt had any nightmares that i remember in a long time and i rarely remember dreams lately anyway. but when i was younger the only nightmares i can remember are ones like the slow mo dreams a few people have talked about. in one i was in a fight geting the **** beat out of me because no matter how hard i tried i couldnt land a decent punch because i felt so weak i could barely move. annother one i remember is me driving a car. i remember it was always where i would be geting ready to hit something and not being able to reach the break pedal enough to press it hard enough to stop me. either that or no matter how much i turned the wheel the car wouldnt turn.... actualy that still scares me. lol

When I was younger I used to have nightmares about dinosaurs. It wasn't exactly recurring because every night was a different situation, but I was always the last one alive and I remember being terrified. It got to the stage where I was afraid to go to sleep, and I'd usually wake up so exhaused it felt like I hadn't been asleep at all. I guess I eventually grew out of it.

I don't have real nightmares that often anymore, but my dreams are always so bizarre its sometimes hard to tell if I'm scared or just weirded out.

Well... Thanks to Pako and his Have you ever died in your dreams thread and then watching the latest Stargate Atlantis which is also based around dreams I've believe you've probably managed to make my insomia worse. Thanks. :indiff:

I decided to watch Rogue waves before I passed out and so my good ol brain decided to have a series of dreams like I was skitsofrinic (sp?) and I had a dream quite like the ending of the movie the Perfect Storm. The only difference being I was in a raft... Not cool.

Pako, I hope you have nightmares now. :grumpy:

When I was young, I dreamt repeatedly of being in my crib and seeing this old scary bloody-marylike (except she looked more like a mummy without wrappings) woman come in, chanting 'mary-goo-goo' and picking me up. Then I think I woke up.

Once I dreamt I was James Bond, and drove a maroon DB7 Volante with a hot girl in the passenger seat being chased by the KGB. That was in a hotel on my trip to Yellowstone.

My other nightmare that I remember was in my Karate school, a big cross of some kind of mechatron-thing, Optimus Prime, and the Terminator shot up the place and killed my dad. Then I woke up. It was more cool than scary though.

I don't really have nightmares, but It will be where everything is black, then I try to move or open my eyes, but can't. I had a nightmare when I was three, one of the few dreams I remember, I was lying in bed, and the door opened, and a silhouette of four people with a rainbow outline standing close slid in, but I noticed, the outlines looked eerily like my family does today.

But when I do have dreams they are strange, some even psychedelic, with Beatles music :P

From,
Chris.

Oh yeah, and in response to the 'falling' thing, sometimes I feel like I'm walking then I wake up to have my leg plunge into nothing. This even happens sometimes when I'm semiconscious (like, in class or watching TV or 'studying')

Sorry....no nightmares that I remembered last night, although I might have had one since I woke up in a cold sweat with an anxious feeling.... :scared:

When I was young, I dreamt repeatedly of being.....

When you were young? It's all relative I suppose, but how young were you?

I usually have the same nightmare over, and over again.

I'm on a white horse. I'm wearing loincloth shorts ala Tarzan. I'm traveling through a dense forest when I come to a clearing.

Hot, beautiful women in Roman-like Togas are all around me. I'm thinking, "Well, helloooooo ladies!" But, they start to giggle. Then, point and laugh as I head toward a pyramid. I get off the horse, and walk up the steps of the pyramid, and these gorgeous women, I'm mean not a ugly Heifer in the bunch, just start pointing at me and laugh.

I get to the top of the pyramid, and they all just start busting out laughing. I check myself to see if something embarrassing happened. I can't find a damn thing wrong! Next thing you know it, I'm naked. Then, the women start throwing little cocktail weenies at me, still laughing like mad!

I then look down, and notice my penis is about the size of a child's pinkie. I scream, and wake up absolutely terrified. I check "myself" and notice it was all just a nightmare.

Am I the only one who has this dream?

Actually, no you're not... Val Kilmer had nearly the exact same dream in the movie "Real Genius."

As for my nightmares...
Usually the worst I deal with is Zombies. Fortunately, I never have much of a problem defending myself in a dream. 👍

When you have a nightmare, what is it usualy about?

The nightmares I get are usualy about tornadoes or storms, but luckily I haven't had one for quite some time.

When I was even younger I had even scarier nightmares, of washing machines.

I love dreams about storms, battles and zombies unlike most people. Most of my nightmares are more of me failing in something I like or being embarrassed or lost.

I dreamed the other night that I was on Topgear, which for some reason was being broadcast from my school's food tech room. Nothing actually happened in it, though. It was a bit like a 30 second view into Ready Steady cook hosted by Jeremy Clarkson.

I seem to be dreaming about stuff that I've watched the night before. I have a strange feeling that last night I had a dream involving Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I could be wrong.

My nightmares usually revolve around these

I can cope with little spiders and even a redback or two but Huntsman scare the crap out of me and I often have dreams where I am trapped somewhere where I can't get away from one or have to go through a tunnel or something similar and they are there. I will probably dream of them tonight now.

That was messed up dOOd... Not only is it night/dark but I'm on my laptop so it hesitated while showing those pics. Thanks a lot... I wasn't planning to sleep anyway.

Pako, have you ever had a nightmare where you're swimming in water and all of a sudden two giant gremlins rip out of your biceps?

I remember a nightmare I had a while ago:

I'm walking along a country lane, when everything starts to go all wobbly, and I "wake up" in a small room partially surrounded by aliens, I run past the doorway thingy ( it was an ovular hole) and I get out of the UFO, so now I'm in what appears to be time square, so I'm relieved, and I'm walking along, but I hear a sound like aluminum being shaken , a wub wub wub wub kinda sound. I turn around, but I see nothing wrong at first.... I pick up a rock, and I throw it, the rock hits something invisible, and everything shakes like it was a big piece of plywood hit with a hammer... then I woke up.

Guess what: I watched the South Park episode when they found out they were a re run that night. :dopey: Aliens suck.

My "bad dreams" tend to involve on thing as of late:

ZOMBIES

Nothing really to specific that I can recall at the moment, but definitely the kind that scare you awake in a cold sweat, giving you that "WTF?" moment when your eyes first open... Then I usually have to watch cartoons to take the edge off...

Actually, no you're not... Val Kilmer had nearly the exact same dream in the movie "Real Genius."

His was more like this...

Chris Knight: "Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?"

How did you know? My therapist said that it's a recess memory trying to manifest itself with my need to be stronger than the lizard man from Star Trek.

Very odd....

Once, I had a Nightmare, I was in a room like the interrogation room in a police station, and there was a guy with a shotgun. I was trying to protect a girl, who by coincidence, IRL, I share a lot of similarities, but do not like, then this man, shot me. it hurt like hell, I looked down and I could see my guts. She screamed, as it seemed like the dude was going to rape her, and I found a knife. with all my strength I stabbed the knife into his back. I collapsed. Before I went to sleep, I had a conversation about what would happen when I die, and scientifically, if you die, you don't exist any more, and religiously, if you die, you go to heaven. when I collapsed, I knew I would die. my last dying wish was that I hadn't driven a car. my vision faded into black, and apparantly, I woke up screaming.

when i was younger, i used to have this wicked insane dream where i perceived the dream as myself in a cartoon. And in this cartoon, it was thunder and lightning skies and i was in a dark forest and there was a wolf with red glaring eyes walking around me in large radius circles... so its red eyes would disappear behind a tree then they'd reappear and i'd be scared as hell... but yeah, the whole first person comic book wolf going to eat me happened quite a few times in my youth days...

not technically a nightmare but horrible to say the least.... one time i had this dream where i was at Paramount's Great America (Theme Park in San Jose area) and in this dream i waited in line for nearly 2 and a half hours to get front seat on Top Gun! I didn't just pop into the front seat of this kick ass ride i waited in line... a long line... and i finally got on the ride and got to the top and just started the first drop and... my mom wakes me up... that sucked... i was so pissed...
