Well, McLaren do have to take into consideration who would work well as a teammate to Lewis, and seeing as Adrian and him are good friends plus he has shown a lot of promise, it makes sense.

Personally I don't think Hamilton's in a position to state which driver he wants to work with. I find this attitude of him disturbring.

In other news:

Heidfeld may be in demand

Kimi asking for too much money

Heidfeld to Mclaren? I don't see that happening now that Toyota has said Raikkonen is asking for too much to drive for them. Just put Kimi in the damn Mclaren seat, whether Hamster wants it or not.

I wasn't implying he had a say on who they choose, but McLaren may be looking for a driver who isn't capable of challenging Hamilton, but better than Kovalainen.
The same consideration will be made at Brawn - Button gets on extremely well with Rubens, so Brawn will want to make sure Rosberg will also work well with him.
Same at Renault - they'll probably go for someone who isn't better than Kubica.

Its a consideration all teams make, sometimes they take the chance and it doesn't work out (Hamilton/Alonso) and sometimes it does (Senna/Prost).

I know, I know. That was me pointing towards Hamilton's reactions posted earlier this month when the rumours start spreading about Rosberg or Raikkonen taking Kovalainen's place at Mclaren. It's just Hamilton's, or Mclaren's for that matter, attitude I'm having a hard time with. By saying he doesn't want a competitive teammate alongside him sounds to me that he doesn't want his teammate to drive with equal material and that he is afraid his new teammate might be actually better than him, something which I easily see in Rosberg.

I wouldn't be surprised if McLaren didn't consult Hamilton when it came to selecing a team-mate. He may not get the final say, but he does have what no other driver on the grid has, and that's a life-long relationship with his team. The reports that he has veto rights are difficult to pin down, and may have originated with AS or La Marca, neither of which are reliable in the slightest.

When did he say he doesn't want a competitive teammate?

Anyone got a link?
Haven't you been reading the last few posts? We've been debating it: a handful of newspapers are reporting that Hamilton hs moved to block Raikkonen (some claim Raikkonen and Rosberg both), but none of the give any reason as to why he's supposedly doing it. What we've been trying to decide is whether or not those handful of sources - and none of them are English, by the way; they're variaously in Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish or Finnish - are reliable enough to be taken at face value orif they're simply making up rumours to make up for the fact that Raikkonen-to-McLaren has suddenly stopped receiving attention from the mainstream Formula One press.

Force India pick one, your German driver or your German engine.

Well with Mercedes saying they would put money in to help its small 'feeder' teams (Brawn & FI) It looks like they will have a bigger say in things.

I was told the rumour going around the paddock was Sutil to Mclaren. I don't think its a fact that Hamilton doesn't want a 'high profile' team mate or Kimi 'wanting to much money' I think it's more of a fact they want a 'young' talent, preferably German.

Quite frankly I think Hamilton will get his arse kicked by Kimi in the same car.

I haven't been following this topic closely no, couldn't find anything on google about hamilton stating he didn't want a competitive team mate, and so was asking where you guys had heard it from.

Sounds like rumours to me.

I think Busch could make the switch to F1 from Nascar, provided he loses his break stuff attitude. He is one of the fastest American drivers racing on any given weekend. I know the cars are 3,500lbs and don't handle, but look what he can do with that. He has raw driving talent, it wont matter that the F1 cars performance blows the stocker out of the water, he will be able to adapt to it. Then again that's as long as he really want's it. Like that article said, his Gibbs contract is up conveniently in 2011.

I think USGPE should look into prying Jimmie Johnson away from Hendrick motorsports. What does he have left to prove here in the states? He's a 3 going on 4 time cup champion, and in only as many years. It would finally break his stranglehold on the cup, not to mention he is one of the top 3 drivers in American oval racing right now. He's had better showings than Busch had in his only Grand am race, which I doubt either tested extensively for. Again, just as well as Busch, Johnson has raw driving talent, being able to make the switch as well I think. Might as well bring Chad Kinaus to wrench on the car too. Though getting Johnson out of Nascar is very unlikely, JJ/KB would represent America well, provided they worked hard enough to get acclimated, which I don't think there ability to do so should be under estimated.

Lowe's/M&M for USGPE title sponsor in 2011, haha Lowe's would make for a great livery, dark metallic blue and fluorescent green.

Oh well, ones wishful thinking, the other ones a slim possibility.

Trulli for Busch? Yes please.

What? The same way Alonso did? :dunce:

Yeah, because the grounds Alonso and Hamilton played on were completely even....
Kovalainen sucks and the one occasion he is put on lower fuel in the 2008 season, he out qualifies Hamilton for pole by 2 positions. In 2007 Alonso was consistently fastest in Q1 and Q2 only to be beaten by lewis many times in Q3 due to the team.

Yes, because FIA knew that Alonso was sabotaged in other races. It began during Qualifying sessions, when they would put in Q3 his set of tyres without the adequate temperature. Then near the end even in races they did it, which was absurd IMO.

It all began in Canada:

Qualifying (Q1, Q2, Q3)

1 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:16.576 1:15.486 1:15.707
2 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:16.562 1:15.522 1:16.163

Then the next race, United States:

1 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:12.563 1:12.065 1:12.331
2 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:12.416 1:11.926 1:12.500

Next race in France, Alonso has Gearbox problems in Q3 and doesn't do a single lap.

Then, next Great Britain (that's the one that people told me what was going on - it was too evident):

1 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:19.885 1:19.400 1:19.997
3 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:19.330 1:19.152 1:20.147

Next race in Nurburgring the Qualifying was all messed up, weather, etc.

Then Turkey:

2 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:27.513 1:26.936 1:27.373
4 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:27.328 1:26.841 1:27.574

Then Monza. You see, the pattern is the same on Q3, but this time Alonso managed to do it anyway, but his Q2 gap was closed down A LOT:

1 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:21.718 1:21.356 1:21.997
2 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:21.956 1:21.746 1:22.034

After Monza, the story became public. We got all those news about people being questioned, etc, etc, etc.

In China, same laptimes in Q1, same in Q2, but:

1 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:35.798 1:35.898 1:35.908
4 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercedes 1:35.809 1:35.845 1:36.576

So... let me be clear: as with anything else in F1, there are no proofs. There was no one checking what was going on when things happened, so the proofs were lost when it all happened.

I'm stating here MY personal opinion, and which I discussed with many people at the time and I can say that, for a lot of people in those paddocks, it was as clear as the rain. BUT... there are no proofs... indeed...

Yes because a team would deliberately reduce it's chances of winning races and championships wouldn't it?

Rumours are usually less than nothing. Especially when they come from people inside the paddock.

What? The same way Alonso did? :dunce:

The same way Alonso would have if he kept his head together and stopped moaning about his situation. I'm pretty sure that without all the stuff going around the two and all the crap, Alonso would've earned a whole deal more points that year.

Well, put it this way, he wants a teammate he gets along with more than one who attacks him. I know its stating the obvious, but perhaps some people don't see Kimi and Lewis as compatible personalities (or maybe they are?). Whereas being already friends with Sutil helps a lot.

Its been well documented that McLaren didn't favour either driver that season and Alonso left because of 1. Not being given number 1 status over a rookie and 2. not getting on with the management i.e. Ron Dennis.
Whether it was Alonso being stuck up or McLaren favouring one driver over another depends who you are greater fan of. Personally I think it was a bit of both - of course Fernando would expect to be favoured over a rookie, but at the same time McLaren would be expected to want their latest rookie, who they have supported since karting to get a fair chance.

I don't blame Alonso for expecting number 1 status though - as double world champion, he clearly had the goods.

In the end, both sides were wanting opposing things, and the relationship fell apart, simple as that.

Button-to-McLaren is rubbish. The source seems to be The Daily Mail, and I'd believe Lobato telling me that Alonso peed pure champagne before I believed anything The Daily Mail printed. It's pretty clear that McLaren would only be interested in him for the sake of their image and because they'd get the nubmer one that came with him.

Cool, McLaren poach the current World Champion, and pair him with Lewis Hamilton! What could possibly go wrong?

Er - pretty sure it's the constructors that get the number 1 - and not the driver?!

Hence why McLaren were 22/23 last year - despite being 2/3 in the drivers. (they were last in constructors by default)

The team with the #1 driver gets numbers 1 and 2. After that it goes by constructors points.

Since 1996 its always been:
1 and 2 go with the drivers champion, rest of the numbers sorted according to constructors.
Before 1996 it was:
1 and 2 go with the drivers champion, the team he moves to/is already at swaps numbers with the last drivers champion team. (e.g. Benetton becoming 1 and 2 and Williams swapping for 5 and 6 in 1995.)

Its always done by drivers champions.
