The reason I have to ramble on for pages is because when someone so completely butchers what you said, it's actually a very big mess to untangle and I hope (futily it seems) that being thorough will avoid further missunderstanding.

Well, you're not one to talk.

Possibly, the best way to avoid further mis-understanding is to move on now.
There's no hope for a meaningful discussion.

If it were me making this game, I'd withhold the full features in the same way that PD apparently is. Two months is plenty of time to build up "hype" - it's cheaper that way :P
By which I mean, I expect quite a lot (of the final product, not necessarily of what we might collectively be, er, expecting) to be demonstrated at TGS.

If the standards still take a backseat / pull another no-show, then we can probably safely assume "the worst"; until the press-release, anyway.

Yes it makes perfect sense, we still don't know a lot about GT5, aero upgrades, wheels selections, tyre manufacturers selections, car and track list, different versions of the game, DLC plans, max online/offline players, etc.

I for one can't wait, it's going to be a huge game, flawed maybe but it would still be a lot of game for the money and a free online system for PS3. Well worth the purchase in my humble opinion.

For the benefit of this thread though, DLC confirmation of a steady stream of Standards to Premium conversion along the years would really do it for me. 👍

If this game is out in November, it's going to have to go Gold soon, so they can't keep working on it for much longer.

I doubt that will happen to be honest. All that will do is dilute the value and impact of GT6. Any new DLC cars will most likely be new models that expand the game two steps forward, not one step forward and one step sideways.

Once gold, it doesn't take long to press the games. Artwork and boxes will be ready to go already.

They still can, in my opinion. The resulting changes/modifications/additions would result in a day-1 patch to be downloaded from the internet/PSN however.

It would be very unwise for PD to foist a big download update on day 1 with millions of people waiting to download it, especially after waiting so long for the game. I don't think even Sony are that stupid.

Doesn't have to be a big download, GT5P had a fair sized update on release.

For some of the features people think might be held back etc, etc, it would be a decent sized file. People who almost pray that the sound, the damage, the cars, the tracks will all be revealed right up to the release date are just clutching at straws.

What do you mean? That they don't tell us they've implemented all of our dreams, but upon playing the game "people" hope they will have done?

Clutching at straws or not, there's nothing wrong with a bit of hope; if that's what people need.

Personally, I don't expect many surprises in the final game after TGS and its aftermath. I won't be very impressed if I have to wait "too long" to download an update, though...

A game update isn't required to play the game though (except online play), you can skip them and download later if you just want to play.

That as maybe, but people aren't going to do that if the game they're hoping for is actually finished within the last month of the waiting period and has to be sent to them down a tube.

Besides, I don't think it will happen, the same way I don't think there's any hope of the game being worked on to any meaningful degree after the game goes gold.

Me too. I want clarification, for each and every new detail divulged, of how it affects the Standards, and the Premiums, in turn.

I'm also hoping for clarification on this subject by PD. But I'm not sure if PD are confident enough on the quality of the Standards to show them at their favorite gameshow. We'll just wait and see.

And in regards to the actual development, they are already "done" at this point. They are likely halfway through QA by now.

Quality Assurance? Makes sense. "Last minute" game-unbreaking fixes make it in, the rest are simply listed as "known bugs / issues" and fixed by a launch-day patch.

That means it's already pretty much confirmed what's in and what isn't (barring the last-minute stuff), so we won't get "maybes" and the like during the conference later on...

Indeed. Unless PD run into some feature-breaking bug that they simply cannot fix (See: GT4 online play), the current feature list is the feature list. And even if they do, they would probably keep plugging away at it and just patch it back in at launch. If PD end up revealing stuff that will be in GT5 over the next couple of days, it will be in GT5.

I was expecting cockpits in all cars. I am very disappointed. I don't think that cars need to be recreated to perfect detail and while ambitious and in the long run more efficient I think PD was overextending themselves.

All in all I would vote all cars should have been standard and we should have got standard cockpits for all cars.

If GT6 gets full cockpit views ala all premium cars than how they have done standard/premium is acceptable development practice but if we have to wait any longer than GT6 for all cars to have some kinda cockpit I won't be happy at all.

well if you wanna wait another 5 years while they do 'cockpits' for all the cars that's on you. I could careless about that view IMO. I never use it because it's not as accurate as say hood view or bumper cam. I'm interested in how the car handles and the features of the game. Graphics are always top notch with GT games. I'm hoping we get 'race upgrade' with some of the standard cars as well.

I really wouldn't count on it.

I really don't care.

In GT2 I think the Viper GTS could be turned into the GTS-R GT2 LeMans car, so what if that car is standard and can be race upgraded like it past GT games?

None of the GT2 assets are being ported; only GT4 and GTPSP, neither of which had race mods.

Very true but normally any updates on release day are usually to fix any bugs/glitches that are found after going gold. I would be very surprised if an update would be for anything significant.

I would assume GT5 is already finished and these next few weeks will consist of PD throughly testing GT5 rather than making any major changes. If the build that is shown at TGS is recent then I doubt we shall see any significant changes come release day.

I guess you missed the part in the last game show where he said 'race modification' would be making a return?

No. But I also didn't miss the part where it was explained it took 6 months to model the Premiums, or that the "race mod" is in fact returning as a race mod menu. I bet part of that six months includes all the possible modifications, though we're yet to see what that actually means.

I might have missed the part where it was explained that the Standard cars were being brought closer to the Premiums, in terms of functionality, for release. But, if no cockpit view could be added (even a simple black frame one, like that already present in GTPSP) then I doubt race mods have been conjured for the 800 "extra" cars.

What's hard to understand that race upgrade was done to 'standard' cars in other gt games without so much as a thought of 'cockpit' view?

PD might well have prioritised the race mods over a cockpit view as far as the Standards are concerned, except that the Standards already had a cockpit view in GTPSP so technically represent little-to-no work. Unfortunately, Kaz has decided it won't make it in, after saying that it would be possible. This usually means he wouldn't be satisfied with the results; i.e. it doesn't fit in the game style.

Adding race mods for the Standards represents far more work than a cockpit view that already exists, not to mention the cockpit view arguably has more impact on the gameplay experience - yet Kaz possibly had no plans to add the PSP style cockpits until he was asked about it on Twitter. That, for me, puts Standard race mods into the "unlikely" box.

It's not a technical or practical impossibility, but, like I said, I really wouldn't count on it.
