I'll definitely try the Jag' E-type and the Merc' 300SL Gullwing.
Ahhh - you stole my cars! :grumpy:

I started off with the AMG Mercedes CLK-GTR Race Car '98. It's a very quick car, and I was touching 370km/h on the straights - it can't keep up with the LMP's through the corners though.

After contemplating for a while I decided to go with the Mercedes 300 SL Coupe '54. I thought what better car to take around one of the worlds oldest racetracks, than the world's first supercar? And what better way to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the WRS than in the car that embodies the spirit of fast driving, impeccable taste, cutting edge style and cool?

After about 45 minutes I got these T times - still plenty of time left out there though, so I'll be searching for it.

T1: 0:46
T2: 1:38
T3: 2:20
T4: 2:56
T5: 3:39
T6: 4:25

After that I was going to try the E-Type too...

I've got a racecar in mind that I might wheel out for a spin, but we'll see.

This sure is fun. :) 👍

MisterWeary, how come you didn't take the Cobra out on RSS tires? That might help you manage your way around the track, wouldn't it? :)

Yeah I guess it would but it also doesn't feel real, the car sticks TOO well, I still want to be able to powerslide around the corners :sly:

Hey Cyril, so what you are saying is......The red/dusty bits behind the rumbles in the sections highlighted are out of bounds? I have also circled the 1st chicane also, should that be included in the tabboo list ( there is lots of tarmac on the insides of both apex's )
since this seems to be going to be quite a monumental wrs edition and it looks like nobody's too sure about the rules to the square inch, i would suggest that cyril takes the ballstothewall picture of the track (or any other clear picture) and draws out where we may hit the sideway tarmac and where not.

my car line-up will be:
moving buildings: volvo
normal cars/supercars: hsc, skyline, nardo or a beamer
racecar: ps2 pesca or mazda (not too sure yet)
and maybe a rallycar such as the evo or pug just for the heck of it

steven

Tell ya what guys,

Had enough of the Volvo 240 for the day and switched to a

642 HP, BRG, British, Saloon Road car,

The Jag XKR R-performance '02

Still playing with the suspension and brakes, but getting some very impressive handling, 200 mph, OOdles of loverly torque

EDIT
T1 34.017 - 32.937
T2 1'12.063 - 1'10.323
T3 1'42.461 - 1'40.263
T4 2'07.958 - 2'05.000
T5 2'39.798 - 2'36.711
T6 3'12.594 - 3'09.338

This week is fun, once you get all you can out of a car......Move on!

Different car, different handling, different method to the track with each change.

This will NOT get boring!

Neil

I'll take some pics as you suggested and post them tomorrow. Meanwhile I'll try to explain what I have in mind in a different way :
  • You can't have all 4 wheels beyond a rumble strip. Maximum 2 wheels beyond the rumble strip and 2 wheels in contact with it. This is the usual 2 wheels on track rule.
  • On many places there is no rumble strip on this track, so in this case any tarmac surface is legal.

well that cleared that up, strange how something comes up in the convo just as i log in to ask that exact question...spooky...

EDIT: yes...i now realise i was reading the end of page 6, not 7...haha, everyone laugh at the fool :P

in my lap i used the read tarmac sections which were not bounded by the rumble strips, but made sure i was exiting with 2 tires in contact with the rumble strips in the 2 chickanes, well i must say, driving the ps2 pesacarolo with the dfp while focussing on being clean was really enjoyable indeed, highly reccomended.the 2 chickanes seperating the long straight were a challenge to find the racing line using the compromised setup i made. but i figured out that going directly over the middle of the 2 rumble strips was the better option rather than cutting it finer an hoppin completely on the raised tarmac. and the last corner i took it nice and easy as i didnt want to waste wat was a really fast lap i had going, i somehow managed to keep the car on track after entering the first high speed right at 290+ km/h, almost lost it on the next left as i had 2 wheels on the grass at 300km/h! i think i'll take the cobra for a spin with the dfp, that should be interesting.

Well, for some reason the Panoz Esperante GTR was looking interesting..lol
So i took it out for 2 laps....
here's what i got on my second and only clean lap... @825 hp....
T1 31.602
T-2 1'07.189
T-4 1'57.753
T-6 2'57.303
I was suprised ... i did lose alot in the last couple of sectors, but i had to slow it down to keep clean....
Not the car I'm going to submit with , but i thought it was an interesting ride none the less .....)

W'Hoo!

Looks like I'm gonna be doin good this fortnight guys (for me that is!):)

Just taken the Audi R8 for a jaunt, what a handfull (out of the box):nervous: on the bumpiest track in the world!
Yes the Ring has lots of camber, elevation, surface changes, but this just HAS to be the bumpiest.

And, of course I had to not only be faster than Jerome in an older car, but I have to be faster in the same car! :mischievous: , so,
I went to the garage and set it up like this:

Sp 9.8/10.8
Rh 90/90
Db 4/4
Dr 7/7
Ca 2.0/1.0
Ta 0/0
St 5/5

Tran Auto 24
Df 63/88 (maxed-out)
LSD FC 10/40/20 (std)
Driving Aids 0/0/1
Brakes 4/3

And got these splits

T1 27.982
T2 59.902👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
T3 1'25.527
T4 1'46.537
T5 2'13.097
T6 2'41.207

Now, all day it has been my ultimate aim to get a sub 60 T2 with one of the fast cars.

And I have.

But this is my second sub 60 T2, and is slower than the first (I stuffed it up at Mulsane corner, and lost about a second if you take into account the speed lost down the next straight, on the first one)
So I know I can be even quicker!

Yes, I started the day off with the Volvo 240 GLT '88, and then I moved to the Jag XKR R-Performance, then I ran the PS pesacarolo (and didn't like it, but will give it a longer go tomorrow, maybe), then the Audi R8!

But do you see a trend going on?

Anyway,

Built up, and built up in power, speed, handling etc etc and now seem to know the track better because of starting slower and building up.

Really happy with my racing so far, obviously Holl is with his (as he's submitted his fast time already), but unlike him I will be battering the hell out of this combo, in as many cars as possible! (and, honestly that's not a dis at you Holl, just meaning that I think I have more to come, lots more!)👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Especially in the Audi,787B or maybe the pesacarolo!

Gonna have to re-set my goals-posts and aim a little lower!

Neil

Nice splits, there, Neil 👍
I found the Audi R8 to handle really well, even with stock settings. All I changed was the Gearbox (Auto set to something I can't remember now), put the aids to 0/0/1, the limited slip at 5/5/5 (don't know what it's for, never understood how/why it works, so I just switch it off, whenever it's present - and 5/5/5 is as close as it can get to be off :D), and the downforce to max front and back.

Springs, height, everything else comes from factory.

Same here 👍

As an example, despite the fact that I should be studying for my heat transfer test that I have tomorrow, I couldn't help to give this one car a couple of laps, in a quick break from studying.

This one car that has been every Italian kid's dream - kid that was born in the '80's, that is.

The greatest piece of rally Italian machinery ever to be created :D :sly:

The Lancia DELTA HF Integrale Rally Car '92 👍

That is, after feeding her 524 horses, fitting her with RSS tires, slamming it completely to the ground, and increasing the spring rate by a factor of 2.5 :D

Aids 0/0/0, full downforce, limited slip 5/5/5, Auto 20.

Here are my splits after 3 laps:

T1: 0'34.778
T2: 1'14.641
T3: 1'46.040
T4: 2'12.012
T5: 2'44.913
T6: 3'19.004

A couple of mistakes here and there. I am sure I can do better and I will give this beauty another session tomorrow. It's too bad I have to go back to studying, else I would be racing another hour, at least :D

Later.

well had a 2 hour session with the ps2 pescarolo and managed this using my dfp

holy smokes Batman, i might just give the old Pescarolo another go... only a couple of seconds behind in an unfettled Audi R8... :)

EDIT: still using the R8 for now, a small tweak of the settings

T1: 26.779
T2: 57.523
T3: 1'22.378
T4: 1'43.332 (still losing 0.2-0.3 through the right hander right before T4)
T5: 2'09.445
T6: 2'36.294 (lost another 0.2 in here)

was a bit slow between T6 and the finish - probably another 0.2-0.4 in it...

if i can nail it spot on i might just crack the 3 minutes barrier, am achingly close to it at the moment :indiff:

settings (not entirely happy with them yet - still too much brake induced oversteer)

I'll be sitting down for a go in a bit... Not sure which car I'll drive. Probably go out in the Volvo for a bit to clip off 2 seconds, then I'll move onto another car if it's not too late.

Try bumping up the LSD Decel... It'll help stabilize the car under decelleration. 👍

Had another go in the Volvo, didn't take down the splits as I'm still unsure of what's legal or not, but it's 2 seconds faster at the line than my 2 seconds faster time from yesterday, in which those pictures were taken.

So, to make sure for sure, we can use ALL of the track, be it red or black or whatever, as long as we're inside the rumbles? So, I can have all four wheels in the red stuff in the chicanes as long as I have two wheels inside the rumbles by the time I get to them? I doubt this is as big of a problem in the faster cars, but with the 240, where it has sooo much grip for how fast it's going, it can make a difference. So...? As long as we're two wheels inside the rumbles and dirt(and off the walls) when there are/is some, it's legal?

Here are some pics I took while driving the best car ever made :D to show what I consider clean and what I consider dirty.
I didn't post pics for all corners because it's basically always the same situation.

Edit :
No split to post today, since these pics required a lot of time. I had to run one clean lap and one dirty lap (about 7 minutes each), then I had to watch the replay (another 14 minutes) and take pictures, so I was busy for a big part of the evening. Perhaps I should have used a Pesky for that. [rant]stupid frenchman[/rant]

I just had time to test the 300SL Gullwing fully modded at 412hp, and it's really enjoyable. Not extremely realistic on RSS, but enjoyable anyway.

shockwaveracing
geez i am going to quickly to go through Mulsanne in the dirty area... :)
Yeah, even in the 2CV at full speed (142 km/h) it was not that easy to keep all 4 wheels on the wrong side of the rumble strip.

But you didn't take a picture where there isn't a rumble and you're fully in the red! :) Thanks for doing that though, definitely would take some time in the 2CV, lol. 👍 I'm going to be using the red track then, as long as there's no rumble inside me.

had another go last night, with the mazda 787b, but i might have to switch to the pescarolos, BMW´s or audis...

splits i got were:

T1 -27´007
T2 -57´715
T3 -1´22´830
T4 -1´43´533
T5 -2´09´535
T6 -2´36´911

considering that i´m new to le mans, i´m happy, but i think i have to try harder with the new cars... somehow i didn´t get the feeling for the audi... i have to try again when i have the opportunity...

great splits shockwave, i have to try your settings... as for holl, the usual good splits... funny that you submmited already... must be a great lap i guess... don´t know how you finished after that T6 split...

i used all stock except dampers at 5/5 LSD at 5/8/5 and no aids...

i tried other LM cars, and god, some of them are just bad...

the panoz, the CLK-GTR, the R390GT1 are just slow...

i guess i´ll play with the audi, the bentley, the peskies, the GT-ONE, the BMW LMR V12 and the Mazda 787b...

6 cars, 11 days still to go for me... lots of fun:)

na i didnt submit the lap, i usually say i have submitted b4 i actual submit it, this time i'll try out the audi next, sounds like it could be faster. cheers

I would say based on my 3.5 months experience as the steward that when people post "Time submitted", it's true in 75% of cases, but the remaining 25% are only bluff. :mischievous:

KLR142
But you didn't take a picture where there isn't a rumble and you're fully in the red!
Yeah I know. I had taken 20 different pictures, but I realized when browsing them that they all described the same situation, and there was no need to post similar pictures of different turns. The pic on red tarmac was among the ones I deleted because the pic where the car is on the dusty part of the straight describes the same situation which is basically "I can be anywhere on the tarmac when there is no rumble strip".

other thing that i think its funny is that if one of the aliens post their splits early in the week, kind of intimidates some of the other div1 drivers... tough to explain, but i know for a fact, that driver A didn´t play just because "this week driver B is doing so well, i´m not going to compete"

sounds silly, but i saw that happen before... so maybe intimidating splits might work:idea: haha, just kidding...

Hah! Bluffing as a way to succeed in WRS...

Won't work for me. I've only missed submitting in ONE event and I can't even remember why I missed that one.

Still no decent official splits yet as I've been testing using DS2 only (and I SUCK with DS2). Unofficially, T6 @ 2'42 with the quad-rotor ripper.

btw, welcome back, i think you only played one week after been in div1...

Any car.....hehe
Mercedes-Benz Benz Patent Motor-Wagen '86, finally made it in under one hour. This beats my 1'07'xx.xxx with the Motor Carriage (had trouble on the hill).
T1 13'17.506
T2 22'47.735
T3 30'46.608
T4 36'43.575
T5 44'21.358
T6 51'29.055

There are 2 things you must do to get a time under 1 hour:
Know how to take the first hill, you will need to "weave" up it, and you WILL use reverse. If it takes you longer than 9 min to reach the Dunlop overpass, just restart and save 50 min of your life
Throttle control: Going full throttle in this car is bad, use the analog stick or pedal to maintain 10-11 mph, that should save 10+ minutes

Once I get a Max Drive, I will have a replay up (NTSC).

flat-out
CoolGeekz from the drifters forum just joins division 2. Hey, drifters can drive fast too ;)
Welcome on board 👍
Except in this car....;)

I will have a "real" attempt at this combo later.

New splits for me (Audi R8)

T1: 0'27.797
T2: 0'58.812
T3: 1'23.923
T4: 1'44.928
T5: 2'11.129
T6: 2'38.051

So close to breaking the three minute barrier, yet so far :indiff:

I tried a whole lot of other LMP cars, but none of them seems to be as fast as the Audi. For me, at least.

Question: are the green strips connected to the rumble strips of the chicane immediately preceding the Start/Finish line considered legal surface?

sheesh don't say that, i was having enough trouble trying to match your current splits as it is... :scared:

Well took the audi R8 for a spin and it is faster by some 1.6 seconds over the audi R8, thats how much i bet my previous time by:tup:

using the same setup as i did with the Pes........ i managed this

26.393
56.680
1'21.389
1'41.945
2'07.867
2'34.083

and i had a pretty clean finish aswell, only lost .2 on the last chicakne but i was thankful it was only that much as i was a bit nervous due to being up by at least .5 on my ghost approaching the last section:tup:

well i submitted this time as my fast time to flat-out, not sure what car to race next... cheers :sly:
