No, I'm telling you that, no matter how you look at it, the PlayStation franchise is home to more profit gaining, attention grabing, AAA mainstream titles. There are more people who can identify with titles ont he PS2, and the PS3 for that matter, than there are who can identify with more than two titles on the 360.

For the PS3, they announce titles that have been amazing in the past, and the job is done. For the 360, it's not so easy, it's about introducing new IP's.

So, what I am telling you, and please understand these very very simple words in lamens terms, since I seem to be entirely too complex with my verbiage...

The PS3 will have more titles that will appeal to more of the average consumers, and are widely recognized to the average gamer, vs the 360.
 
I still somehow doubt that since I see more big names coming out for the Xbox then the PS.

big names? fable and forza? how much did those games sold compare to... lets say final fantasy and gran turismo?

they have GTA, and that´s about it in terms of big names... still no MGS, resident evil, and all the RPG games that make sany rule japan...

i think new brands like gears of war and too human, altough we can´t judge the quality right now, still can´t be classified as big names until they sold their first millions...
 
They don't actually 'have' GTA4 but Microsoft have got a dual launch with the PS3 GTA4 and extra content, though it may be that the PS3 version will get its own extra content possibly. It's a bit of a coup but not really amazing. Rockstar probably wants to get a good return on their game. What better way then selling it on the PS3 and 360 at the same time to make some serious money.
I don't think it'll have an effect on console sales mind.

Also, the price of the 60GB PS3 is in many respects a give-away!
I was looking on Amazon.UK and Euro sites. In Germany the 360 with the 20Gb is selling for 399.99 Euros and a hard drive 97.99 Euros. To have 60 GB for the 360 would cost 195.98 Euros for two more 20GB HDD's (they're 97.99 each). Add to the 360 = 595.97 Euros. With the PS3 you're getting Blu-ray for free! That's right, free!
Same goes with the UK price, as long as the PS3 retails at around £425-ish. It's a ruddy bargain!
The 20GB PS3 is still a dog to be honest as it actually costs more for what it is.
 
oh yes, i would be very sad if they had stolen GTA from PS... but they only got a downloadable thing deal... and it will be releasing togheter... it would only be bad if the PS3 didn´t had it...

in this generation, it looks like its tougher and tougher to get exclusives...
 
Developers cant afford to put all their eggs in one basket this time around. Last gen PS2 ruled the roost and most developers focused on getting thier software out to the bigger market (PS2) but this time MS and Sony have got a fairly eaquel footing in the market and developers are happy becuase now they can multi platform and clean up, but I can see this changeing over time, depending on who s machine is doing the best and developers being back where they began favouring a console over the others, but the question is... which one?

My bet... Sony

Plus you have to remeber that PS2 has got alot of really great titles Like Ico and Shadow of colossos. The 360 dosnt have anything remotly as good as those, so you can bet that since these games did well on PS2 you will see the same company make a PS3 title based around the games.

exactly, If developers make the games people will make the choice based on those games. So if one console has better and more good games compared to the other, the consumer will purchase that console, and in turn developers will notice sales of one being higher and then spend more time developing for that format and thus it goes around in one big circle.

and in my eyes The 360 dosnt have enough 1st party titles that are close to what sony will have come launch.

MGS4, Killzone, Lair, Motorstorm, Warhawk. tons and tons of great games not forgetting Ratchet and Clank that looked awsome, wardevil that is truly stunning, Madden that is far better than its 360 counterpart and that all so great Tiger woods, If the animations look like what was shown at the confrence then it will be the closest thing ive seen so far to CG in a game running real time, plus games like Wipeout have yet to be announced and shown. sorry but In my eyes the PS3 will have allot to offer when its here and in the months to come after launch. I personally see the Wii selling more than the 360 too once launched. Its going to launch with Twilight princess now thats awsome for fans of zelda, and I can tell you that there are allot of zelda fans out there including me, Im seariously thinking about getting both the Wii and PS3 at launch.

Microsoft has really only been doing the console thing for five years, so obviously they arent going to have big-time blockbusters like Gran Turismo or Zelda. It is for the same reason that so many companies sign with Sony and Nintedo for exclusive titles, as they have a far greater reputation than Microsoft, but again, that is changing as well.

Different games appeal to different people, and Microsoft (IMO) is doing pretty well for only selling consoles and games for the last five years. Halo turned out well, the same can be said for Forza, Fable, KOTOR, PGR, etc. which have all carved out their own nieche in the market today. Of course, the games are still proving themselves against titles from Sony and Nintendo and their exclusive third-party titles (MGS, Resident Evil, etc.), but give them some credit. They came from nowhere and did well, and that is something that doesnt happen often enough anymore in the videogame industry.

Someone said something about the Wii outselling the 360 in November, and I wouldnt say that it couldnt happen. By then the 360 would have been out for a year, so most of the people who want one would have bought one by then (assuming of course they could find one)... The same can be said of the PS3, both of which are fighting against something that has allready had it's sales blitz occour. Wait until the spring 2007 however, Halo 3 would probably push the sales figures for the 360 upwards once again, just as Halo 2 did in 2004.

I don't doubt that the PS3 and Wii won't be great systems, I just don't have much interest in the PS3 (with the Wii, it is a whole 'nother story)... I suppose that makes me a non-average gamer, but the AAA titles from Sony just get a Meh from me. Not on graphics or gameplay, its just that they don't interest me.

And obviously you forget the power of the Dollar.

MS has done nothing for the past 5 years except attempt to buy out as many developers as they can for first party titles. Halo is hardly an achievment to MS, it is Bungie, MS just gave them the budget to do it. I don't give them credit for literally buying a chunk of the market share (since they lost a considerable amount on the Xbox, and are still losing money to this day on it, followed by the 360, they are *paying* to get the market share).

I totally agree with you about MS, and I really want the 360 to do well, this in turn will drive down prices, and when I said Wii will outsell the 360 I meant by sales in the Q4 of this year and not counting the sales the 360 has under its belt. halo 3 will send sales of the 360 through the roof because its a must have game for fans of the series, and to be honest I dont think that Killzone 2 couldln't stand up in a straignt fight with halo 3 unless sony and gurilla deliver on the CG like graphics shown last year, if killzone comes to the table with half assed graphics it will have a serious impact of Sony and its franchise.

Nintendo should of joined forces with Sony, when they had the chance. Anyway I try and take shots from the 540p HD version of the conference. And since that Tiger Woods demo, which was showen at the conference.

I would say the PS3 can do the kind of graphics KillZone 2 showed.
 
Oh definitely, MGS3 is proof enough, the entire MGS3 trailer was real time and that's the best graphics I've seen so far on any of the format's that we know is real time.

Also that NBA demo they showed, not jus the graphics, but the movement of the characters was absoltely incredible imo.
 
if killzone comes to the table with half assed graphics it will have a serious impact of Sony and its franchise.

Killzone was a few pixel shaders short of being a better game along side more open levels with less linear gamplay. So KZ2 should be a lot better and the graphics should be good. It wont have anything to do with Halo3 since they are not on the same system and arent even the same type of fps "IMO".
 
Allright, enough with "360 has many wonderful games" crap, this is "the New PS3 "thread, and here's something interesting:

Sony unveils "Station Launcher"
"It's not going to stop at the PC," stated Nathan Pearce, creative director at SOE.

Everyone has heard how Sony's PS3 Network is supposed to rival the Xbox Live service. However, there is a new feature Sony recently announced called "Station Launcher" for their service.

Station Launcher will allow PS3 users to subscibe and play (on the PS3) many of Sony's existing online PC titles including: The Matrix Online, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Planetside, Everquest 2, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes according to Pearce.

The Sony Access Subscription plan will allow unlimited access to all these games for $24.99 a month. Also, games on the Station Launcher will constantly update to computers with online connections so users dont have to wait for new updates to download.

Lastly, the service offers a single sign-in and a section where users can check player rankings and information.

Both models have identical functionality, says Phil Harrison, President, Sony Worldwide Studios.

Speaking to BBC News, Harrison responded to criticisms made about the apparent missing features on the cheaper PlayStation 3 model. According to a PDF document containing the specs of each console, the cheaper model PlayStation 3 lacks an HMDI connector, wireless, and a memory card reader.

"What we should be clear about is that the functionality is identical in both machines," Harrison told BBC News. "There is no difference in what the machine does."

"It's just that the technical method of extracting audio and video from the devices is slightly different," Harrison added.

During Microsoft's pre-E3 conference, Peter Moore confidently announced that the Xbox 360 would have a 10 million unit lead before the PlayStation 3 is released into the market. Unsurprisingly, Harrison doesn't believe that this will be the case.

"I doubt they will achieve that," he said. "I think the clear advantages of the PS3 will mean that this product is very well accepted in the marketplace."

How the next-gen console war pans out is still in the balance, but early reactions from E3 put Microsoft in a very strong position with the Xbox 360, with the general consensus being that Sony has dropped the ball. The PlayStation 3 goes on sale in Japan on November 11, with a European and North American release on November 17.

There has been a lot of bickering on this side of the pond about Sony dropping the ball as well. Interesting to hear it from the UK as well...

I personally thought Moore's goal of 10 Million 360s by November seemed just a bit high, but of course there need to be 360s to buy before they can sell them. We are just begining to see 360s on the shelves part-time here in Michigan, but they are usually gone within a week these days.

...Now that online service that KENJIusa talked about, is that $24.99 a month for SOE PC and PS3 titles, or just the PC? I'm paying less than $5 a month for XBOX Live service, and if that is what they think people will pay to play SOCOM online is just simple stupidity on their part.
 
I believe that if you buy a PS3, the online service is free. I could be wrong, something to do a little research on I suppose.

The online service is free, and Sony will make their profits and maintanence fee's via Content sales. Sony will sell new tracks, stages, vehicles, and characters, possibly even demo's, for certain amounts in order to generate profits.
 
I must say, Sony's taking a lot of flack for their decision to have a 20GB PS3 sans HDMi etc. The lack of HDMi is what is really making people cranky. Though Sony have said HD can be sent via component (no ICT means no downscaling on analogue connections) some say that component does not allow 1080p. But look here and there they are! Component cables for 1080p!
Anyway, there does seem to be a lot of negative press about concerning the price etc. Rumours of 'horrible' cell yields keep re-surfacing..

You know what, I keep getting the feeling some people want Sony to fail. I'm just genuinely amazed at the open hostility Sony has received from the media (and mostly the internet media). Looking around the internet...it's crawling with vitriol at times. Admittedly the 20GB PS3 silliness adds fuel and the motion sensor controller is regarded by many as taking Nintendo's idea. (To be honest I think it was a bad decision. Oh Sony probably had been thinking about it in R&D for a while, but to show it now after Nintendo showed their controller last year? People are just gonna cry "thief")!

It probably won't have an effect. But Sony does need to turn on the charm. Rumours tend to be more persistant than facts.

man, you just describe my feelings... while i still love to read 1up and their network... (when that terribly hard to load webpage loads) they seen to have a deal with micro$oft to trash sony. i mean they didn´t like anything. just for a quick example, i read about how great madden ´07 was on IGN. then on 1upradio show they just ripped the game, calling horrible.

maybe the price made so much people angry... but definately sony has to do something about this negative press, it does have some serious impact on it... they are killing the hype, which is not good for sales...

but i still would like to ask them (general media) if all 3 systems were sold at 300, which one would you buy? i´m sure 90% of them would say the PS3... is just the price that is generating so much bad publicity...

No, it's $24.99 to play all thoes PC MMORPGS on the PS3 every month, I don't even think you have to own the games in the first place, it's like a subscription that will allow unlimited access to all thoes PC MMORPG games, which for any MMORPG fan is a great deal.

The regular PS3 online is free.
 
Ken Kutaragi defends PS3 price:
CEI president Ken Kutaragi has defended the PlayStation 3's high price tag once again, declaring that not only will consumers be prepared to pay the cost but that the console is "probably too cheap."

After being interviewed by Japanese website IT Media, which was then partially translated by IGN, Kutaragi said: "This is the PS3 price. Expensive, cheap - we don't want you to think of it in terms of game machines."

Kutaragi went on to say; "For instance, is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

Kutaragi then went on to compare the original PlayStation, which he says was also considered too expensive at launch. "Same for the PlayStation 2," Kutaragi said. Both PS1 and PS2 have sold over 100 million units each so it sounds to us like they got the pricing spot on.

"However, when released, both had sales that were unthinkable for previous game machines. This is because both offered experiences that could not be had on previous machines."

Like its predecessors, PS3 will also offer brand new experiences, he continued: "Things like next-generation graphics and various services via the network. And, as with the PS and PS2, we believe people who like games will, without question, purchase it."

The PS3 is set for a global launch this November, priced at USD 499 / EURO 499 for the 20GB version and USD 599 / EURO 599 for the 60GB model.

Kutaragi dismissed claims from the likes of Microsoft's Peter Moore that Sony will be unable to meet its shipping targets in time - the company has said that it plans to deliver two million PS3 units by the end of the year, with a further two million arriving by April 2007.

"Of course, this is a number that we announced having made sure we can definitely prepare it," Kutaragi said.

"There is the possibility of unexpected problems like earthquake or theft, so I won't say it's absolute. But if this type of trouble does not occur, there's no problem with this number."
