PS3 General Discussion

But Eye Toy does use motion tech, when you move your body in front of the Eye Toy camera.

Just think of it this way. IF the Eye Toy itself was constantly shaking, would you be able to use it properly?

Meh the 360 still has cooler games in my opinion. I never really liked my PS2 all that much save for 2 or 3 games which were really good...GT3 being one but not GT4 since I didn't like it all that much. In a few years when the system isn't 600 bucks I'll get one.

I think the larger number of AAA games (as rated by sales, not opinion) tends to think a lot differently than you do, and also proves you *slightly* wrong.

Sure, the 360 is a great system, with great games, but the fact will always remain, developers will continue to put out grade A titles that, to the masses, will sell far better than many 360 titles, and will appear in a geater abundance.

If that is so then why can Nintendo's Wii controller both rummble and have a motion sensor at the same time... Im am sure its totally to do with the court case because all next gen consoles have vibration...

Plus...... whats to say a gamer wont get very immersed in the game and that they wont be moving the controller round so fast and basically shaking it with the same forces as a vibration would..... surely using it at a fast paced speed would be just as damaging as a rummble...

It doesn't prove me wrong. Did you miss the part where I said THE 360 HAS COOLER GAMES IN MY OPINION???? They have what I'm looking for and the PS3 does not. Hence the 360 is cooler to me. In fact I'm thinking about buying one soon.

Remember that old boomerang thingy that they had planed on doing? Yeah, they scraped that and kept it to the same thing, but a little different:

AND it has the same thing that therevolution is supposed to have(motion wise, whatever its called)

Yes I know that they have used the DS2 shape for the PS3 (I watched the press conference)... its the fact that they are saying that having a rumble feature would disrupt the motion sensor from working properly... thats a lie because Nintendo have manged to do that and have rumble so the only reason I can think of as to why the new PS3 controller does not feature vibration is because they are not allowed to due to the court case.....

BTW, that picture is not the official final controller, the final one has all the buttons in exsactly the same position only it has a home style button in the middle and L2/R2 are now triggers...

The controller pictured above is a mock up. It is not coming with the PS3. It's from joystiq.com. www.joystiq.com
The actual controller looks virtually identical to the DS2.
This is the PS3 controller.

I liked the button layout of the DS/DS2 more than any other controller, I just had trouble with it's size, it's too small for long periods of play.

The Xbox controller was by far the best with it's tirgger style shoulder buttons.

Alright, different for different people, but the triggers made FPS and racing games much easier to play. Ask others and you'll see they agree with that.

Well, I play GT4 and killzone perfectly fine using the analog sticks and R1 button, I also had a chance to try out forza at walmart, it was comfort to play, ofcourse, but much easier compare to the DS2? no, I don't think so.

Yep, that's why the new controller has triggers on L2 and R2, better for FPS and racing games on the PS3.
From Gamespot;
So if you wanted to be a cynic, you could say that this is a wireless PS2 controller with analog triggers like the Xbox, a central guide button like the Xbox 360, and it has internal motion sensors like the Wii. But what's probably most important is that the controller feels pretty nice and it already seems to work well.
Personally I think the shape is the same because it saves Sony time and money. Which is understandable, sorta'. I still think a subtle design change would be nice. The controller could certainly be more ergonomic. As live4speed has said, it is a tad too small.

Interesting bit from BBC News.com. A Sony UK Exec says the 60Gb will be priced around £425. It could go up or down, he says. But that's a good sign. I was worried a £499+ would be the going rate. BBc News.com

I didn't notice that before, well it might be useful then...I'll have to wait till I get a hold of them.

Another reason NOT to buy the PS3...I always thought the controller sucked.
Your wrong there, the Dual shock design is the best joypad ever. Why do you think MS ripped it off little bit on the 360 joypad.

How the hell am I wrong when I said I THOUGHT the DS2 sucked...you can't make me like it. And I'm not a huge 360 controller fan, the best is still the S-Type Xbox controllers.

Cant go wrong with the DS2, its a great controller, but I did want something ''all new'' for this gen (well, actually, last gen). Nice to see a "guide" button.

I would like to see better durability. My hands are too powerful for the DS2 controller. I tend to break a lot of them with my powerful hands.

You really have to abuse a controller to actually break it...

I think you're in the minority, SL. The problem appears to be with you rather than the controller.. and Sony has no control over that.

Me, I've never had a problem with durability. The buttons on my controllers are fine. The sticks are getting a bit stiff, but that's just five and a half years of wear and tear.

My DS2 lasted for quite a while, till it came apart one day. During a hockey game. When I, uhm... smashed it to bits. :D

I don't trust Sony for the moment.

Do they take us for idiot or what? Adding a Hud over the trailer.

Look, it's written BLIZZRAD!!!(Not to mention it's in englrish)

...On the new PS3 controler:

The same opinion for the PS3 matches the controller; Meh...

Quite frankly, I love how everyone complained about the boomerrang, and now they are complaining that it is just a modified DS2. Choose a controler folks! I could really care less, as I am pretty neutral on the DS2 design. On the one hand it is pretty good for most average games, and it is pretty easy for most people to pick up and use. However, it is too small and cramped compared to the 360 pad, and thus hand cramps are quite frequent on the DS2. Hell, there have even been reports in medical journals about it.

After seeing the keynotes, reading the stories, and watching the trailers... I don't think Sony has done enough to steal the show as so many people had predicted that they would do. The combination of the high-price, DS2-based controler, idea stealing from Microsoft and Nintendo, and still very few solid in-game videos that surpass that of the competition, I stand by my assertion of "Meh..."

My award goes to Nintendo for the Wii by showing us what the thing can and will do, and how easy it will be to use. They showed us the graphics and gizmos wont matter to appeal to everyone, and I think that is an important step forward for Nintendo to make.

...But for a single announcement to steal the show, it was obviously Halo 3. There are plenty of fanboys and haters alike who were waiting to see what would happen, and although it may not necessiarily be on the scale at which Halo 2 was when announced, I think the idea of Halo 3 was put across.

To tie in another thing, Microsoft's announcement of multi-platform communication between the 360, Vista, and Windows Mobile is something that should have been done a while ago, and it is about bloody time that the idea gets put into motion. The quick demo showed with Forza 2 was impressive, and really gets the juices flowing when it is considered that you can edit your car at work or at school should an idea come to you. It goes above and beyond what Sony has planned to do with the PSP, and I think they will find success with it in the days to come.

For the reportcards (thus far):

-Sony: B: It was not particularly bad, but it was not particularly good either. I think people were expecting to get blown away by the PS3, and it really seemed to stumble before getting to a slow jog at the show. There is no question that the platform will be immensely popular uppon it's November release, but I think there are more people with doubts than high hopes these days.

- Nintendo: A: A great display and a great strategy for the future. Nintendo wins again on innovation, and proved that plenty could be done dispite having less. Unfortunately the only things holding them back are currently the lack of discussion about the Wii's price, solid release date, and just what exactly the online plans will be... But the games looks great, particularly Super Mario Galaxy, esp. when knowing that they are not comitted to the HD-era like Sony and Microsoft.

Microsoft: A-: Thankfully for Microsoft, they have a leg-up on the competition, and they really only had to prove themselves against Sony at this years conference. The combination of great 1st party titles such as Forza 2, Alan Wake made a strong showing, and Halo 3 well... It was indeed on the scale of what Halo needed to be to regain the confidence lost by some of it's fans. Third party support looks great, and seems to be growing as time goes on. Microsoft is continuing with their support of HD-DVD, and with more announcements of studios and electronics companies joining with Microsoft on this front including LG and Siemens with hardware. But, they didnt talk about price... Which leads me to the A- explanation. Microsoft seems to have a lot on the table, but nothing extremely interesting seems to be ready until the fall or holiday season. Good? For sales at the time, yes... But they talk more about the future than what is going to be available in the present (or near future).

This year has been a good year thus far, and I can't wait for the gloves to come off between Sony and Microsoft on Wednesday...

Boy, that would work for me. I don't like Dual Shock controllers, and the placement of the main analog stick is the major reason why. I wish they did do it this way. :guilty:

idea stealing from Microsoft and Nintendo
Sorry, I missed a lot today(and this thread was really busy). I'm guessing the Nintendo idea you are talking about is the motion sensing controller? What did Playsation steal from Microsoft?
