Autumn Ring shootout, test results sheet-
Praiano63's Merc SLK- 1:27.012
A very loose car, especially when you brake. It's very easy to get its back kicking out. The car also responds quite well to trail braking. It also feels quite stiff, making it very quick to respond to my butter-fingered and clumsy inputs. The downside of this is that, when I land after hopping over the kerbs in the corners, it seems very unnerved by this move and feels like it's going to throw me off the track.
Krenkme's Chrysler Prowler- 1:28.927
Feels numb
or rather doesn't feel at all. Suffers from understeer when you exit a corner. Try to cure it with a bootful of power only causes it to push even further. It doesn't give any confidence to the driver, it's too remote. Also rather unpredictable in the respect that it will sometime choose to understeer, sometime choose to oversteer and on that rare occasion, it'll fail to steer at all. Also, gears are too short. Tops out at 120mph or something.
Tris_73's Honda S2000- 1:26.006
Very, very sharp. Not a car for the butter-fingered or lead-thumbed. Not very easy to drive compared to stock S2000s, but very easy to power out of corners sideways should you make a mistake. Also, braking causes the back to come round in a quick snap. Left-foot/finger braking cures this, but oversteer on exit of the corner is almost constant unless you're really precise with the throttle input.
VTiRoj's Honda S2000- 1:26.589
Steady as a rock compared to the other FRs. Which means it's easier, which in turn makes it faster for more of the time. Not a lot of excessive oversteer, feels very stable, doesn't have as much of an attitude issue as the others. Hints of understeer here and there when you get the line a bit wrong, only oversteers when you really have a go at it. Overall, very easy to drive, very quick, and also brings me in mind of a certain 3 year old, red, MR Honda. Yes, that one.
XDesperado67's Chevrolet SSR- 1:26.705
Very easy to drive. Almost too easy, in fact. It doesn't seem to have any 'limits' as such, or not that I can feel. In fact, I can hardly feel anything. It faster than it seems, the lack of power being a main contributor to this issue. Handling wise, there's plenty grip, the brakes can haul this 1.7 ton mammoth to a safe cornering speed without much issue and when you do overdo it, all it will do is gently step out of line with a hint of a slide. Very balanced. And very safe. An all round, pleasant to drive, if slightly dull, surprise.
IndyRacerfan's BMW Z4- 1:26.844
Quite the animal, this. The back feels very light and lively, the car reacts pretty much on the spot. It turns the moment you tell it to. It's a very sharp and responsive thing. As such, there is oversteer, but it's at a manageable level. There also some understeer when you exit the corner, not going sideways. Actually, I'd say this strikes the balance of grip and oversteer very well.
Dragonthing's Mazda Roadster RS- 1:25.924
Quick, sharp, eye-widening, packs a strong punch. Best way to describe this car. It's very much like an Orange Punch or whatever the drink is called. It's very predictable, drifty when you lift off, grippy when you gun it. There is a bit of understeer, and it's not as mad a car as I was hoping, but it's still a very, very good drive.
Rotary Junkie's S2000- 1:24.891
It's like an Amuse S2000 R1, only better. Two words best describe this car. Difficult, and epic. Topping the leaderboard on the first lap out* makes it epically fast, nearly killing me along the way makes it epically tricky and the fact that I'm still smiling from that drive means it's epic fun. It isn't perfect, the brakes make it very snappy and eager to turn into a corner and there is some understeer when you get your line really wrong. Overall though, I have to say that this already got a spot as my driver's choice. Good job
now tell me the secret behind that hyper overkill of rear camber.
CyKosis1973's Mazda Roadster RS- 1:26.372
Very easy to drive, encourages gentle driving. Can stick to the arse of the Civic Type R ghost car with ease, often being a nose ahead in the early sections. Has hints of understeer through those switchback chicane bits and just feels a little bit dull.
JohnnyPenso's Honda S2000- 1:25.202
Stable as a house, very responsive and fun. It's very neutral, there's little to no oversteer and no understeer at all. The brakes are a tad on the strong side, but it's no biggie. And the fact that it took the lead at the time of writing on the end of the first lap just shows how fast and easy it is. Overall, a very all round car.
Bigberry's Mazda Roadster RS- 1:26.114
Resembles Indy Racerfan's Z4 in handling. Very agile, slight understeer when pushed, gentle oversteer otherwise with a tendency of putting all its weight on the front outside tyre in those last corners. It still holds to its line very well in those situations, but it's just something to take note of. Gentleness is key. Good, steady and fun car to drive.
Sean10mm's Honda S2000- 1:25.481
Good fun. Rotates very well off throttle and when you brake. Plenty of grip and go when you need it, will happily pull gentle slides when you don't. Also earns a place on the podium as one of the fastest S2000s entered.
ACSR421's Mazda Roadster RS- 1:26.935
The most neutral of the MX5s entered, with a slight bias towards understeer at the exit of a corner. Brakes are good, nice and strong. Not that much fun, but bar the understeer, it is the easiest of the Roadsters to drive.
Shmogt's Honda S2000- 1:25.156
Easy. And difficult. At the same time. It doesn't feel confident, almost feeling too loose. It won't really bite my arm off or anything, and it is quite easy to handle once you're used to the lack of confidence, but initially, it just doesn't feel tied down to the road. Which also isn't helped by Shmogt's friendly reminder that should the tyres go red, you have failed.
-raVer-'s Chevrolet Corvette C1- 1:33.859
I'll give you that this C1 is easily the most charismatic car, all those other Japanese entries just doesn't feel the same as this. Though this C1 doesn't have much more to shout about other than that. It's quite sharp for an old canoe, but it spins the inside wheels up every time you corner.
Jackthalad's Honda S2000- 1:26.061
Loosest of the S2000 entries. Also one of the hardest to drive. Left foot/finger braking is needed to keep the car stable, otherwise it will spin you off when you brake. I can't say I like this one very much
Or not. It's very stable at speed, focus hard on driving it quick, it will come alive. Oversteer is minimal and the only chance you'll get understeer is if you mess up the gear changes. The gearbox itself is a bit odd, the speed I need for some corners are between the gears, holding it back a bit.
Madmyke's MG TF140- 1:27.990
Understeer on exit of corners kills it. Otherwise, it's a fun little car.
