I thought I would get a conversation started on the upcoming release of the official World Rally Championship (WRC) game scheduled for later this year.

Here is the best link for what little is known yet on the game, which includes the official press release:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_wrc_officially_announced-8938_en.html

"London, 3rd February 2010 – Leading videogames publisher, Black Bean Games, announced today the first features of the official WRC videogame at the official WRC Season Launch in Paris. WRC is scheduled for release around the world in Autumn 2010 on PlayStation®3, Xbox360® videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft® and PC formats. It is currently under development at Milestone, Black Bean’s Milan-based in-house production studio, which has specialised in the motorsports simulation genre since 1996.

The main goal of the game is to bring the action of the World Rally Championship to the living rooms of both rallying and gaming fans. As a first step toward this goal, Black Bean is proud to deliver an overview of the main game features:

• The World of WRC. The official locations, the official cars, the official drivers and co-drivers. Everything is designed to give the player the sensation of taking part in the real championship as they race against their heroes.
• Huge career mode creates ultimate satisfaction when the player wins the championship after a long and challenging road to the top!
• Unique offline and online game modes
• 13 different locations around the world
• Realistic physics model
• Advanced car tuning that allows players to find the best settings for every single stage
• Breathtaking graphics for drivers, co-drivers, cars, tracks and environments
• Visually stunning car damage effects
• Full 3D cockpit and dashboards
• Much more to come…

This is just the beginning. Fans will soon be able to discover the full range of features. This new, exciting game promises to deliver all this and more, offering the most realistic virtual rallying experience ever
."

Please, if you find any additional information, added it to this thread so we can all follow the game's progress.

Thank you

The only thing I have to add at this moment is that I wish that this game will become a second RBR or maybe even better.

Although I'm not a fan of WRC, I'm still looking forward to playing this game.

Looking forward to this alot. Long overdue a WRC game, like F1, and RBR really was the last proper rally game.

Anyway, heres a little wishlist of mine for the game:
- Good length stages, between 3-10 minutes in length.
- Plenty of stages, if theres 13 rounds, 7 or 8 stages per round should be do-able.
- Narrow roads, old CMR games were too wide, didnt feel like a rally, narrow forest and country roads would be ace.
- TV style cam views, like the roof cam and centrally positioned TV cockpit view.
- Good tyre wear, its a huge part of rallying and never seems to get simulated.
- Stage wear, slippy and hard to go fast on gravel if your the first runner, more grip and more rutted if your the last.
- Good weather system, changing weather throughout stages, puddles, sticky mud etc.
- A good career mode, it does say huge career mode so is it too much to ask for the JWRC, PWRC and even Super 2000?
- Realistic damage system, if you clip a rock and roll into a tree, rally over, punctures, damaged suspenion, leaks etc, all the most common rally ending things should be present.
- Be able to create your own team, driver, co driver etc and be able to choose what car you run and its livery (probably a bit much to ask considering the licensing).
- Spectators are hugely important, standing close to the road, almost in the way, helping you out with minor offs etc, all adds to the rally experiance.

And for one last cool feature, small RTE events for changing tyres mid stage and so on, make it more of a challenge to get back on the road and moving.

:)

And I'd like to add iOpener to your wishlist!

Owh, did i just read the first clue of this game on another similar thread?
We can probably hope in the final game it'll be a lot of praise for being realistic, like RBR did.

Honestly can't wait for this. After there being quite a few rally games on the PS2 I was very surprised that there haven't been any proper PS3 rally games up until now (I wouldn't say DiRT and DiRT2 count, even though they're pretty good games on their own merit), or rally games on any platform for the last few years, for that matter.

That said, will probably be getting this on PC <3

This being the official WRC game, I would expect it to be more realistic and true to form than Dirt 2. Let's hope so.

I have no doubt that the graphics will be superb. Physics engine is still a 'mystery'.

It's not looking too bad at the moment, the wheels look a little weird as it seems that dirt/mud isn't gathering on the centre wheel hubs. But other than that it looks pretty good. 👍

Also a 'Making of' video has been shown, it looks pretty promising I think. Here's a link: http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_wrc_making_of-15999_en.html

There is a advert just before the video shows but it's well worth the wait.

Thanks from me too, Speedster - great find and very nice still photos. This is turning out to be a GOOD week for racing games!

Those screenshots aren't bad at all 👍. With better lighting it'll look similar to GT5's rally shots, but with dirt on the cars :D.

I'm usually not a fan of rally games, but thanks to Dirt 2 I've been converted lol. Let's hope this has a LOT more point-to-point rally stages and official cars than D2. I don't want any of those Landrush/Rallycross 🤬. Pikes Peak would be nice too, but I doubt it's included.

Now, if only this game will come to Australia (I still can't find SSV8R II anywhere :ouch:).

Edit: Just watched the making-of vid. I hope they get the balance of physics right and not make it too accessible (but not too punishing either). Damage looks good, with flying doors and stuff. The scenery looks beautiful, especially that Japanese temple near the end (and they have 3D trees! :dopey:).

Well, it is based on the 2010(?) season so I would guess there will be all courses from this year, the only non point to point tracks would be the Special Stages(if they are included).

Also, perhaps Pikes Peak could be an unlockable track(along with some historic rally cars).

I felt like doing this but yeah only if it had GT5 lighting then it will look similar.

Yes but GT5 isn't said to be following WRC's exact rules or stages. GT5 so far has only showed circuit stages, not point to point which kind makes comparing the two a little pointless. We know GT5 graphically looks stunning but it's not the same. This is a official game, so it will really serve rally fans. I'm going to vouch now and say this game will not feature pikes peak, buggies or any of the different events on Dirt 1 or 2. This is a WRC game, as far I as know neither buggies or Pikes Peak are in the WRC. Sorry guys, if you want a mixed offroad game get Dirt, this is going to be a pretty much official game. Like back in the old days with WRC, WRC 2 Extreme, WRC3, WRC4, and to some extent WRC Rally Evolved.

^^This:tup:

Codemasters sold out with the Dirt series IMO by putting the Colin McRae name to it. This looks like the rally game I've been waiting for since CM4 on the PS2.

This looks good, but I'm worried about the car selection. There are only two different cars competing in the WRC, the Ford Focus and the Citroen C4. Maybe they can include some cars from previous years?

Thats a very good point to make, hopefully they will include cars from the previous seasons that the old WRC games didn't neccessarily cover. As an example, there wasn't a WRC game which had the two different variations of Subaru Impreza from 2007 onwards. Not to mention, maybe some JWRC stuff? If not Super 2000 would be nice. Rally Evolved, and WRC4 definitely had those so I can't see why this game can't. But as mentioned before at the moment details are quite slim, once a official press release has been issues (along with a release date) there should be more information.

Their recent super bike game, SBK X, had a legend pack which included legendary bikes and riders from the past so maybe they will do something similar with legendary cars and drivers of the WRC.

At last! After the dissapointing-but-ok-Dirt, and the farce that was Dirt 2, it's about time a proper rally game graced the current gen consoles. The last decent one I played funnily was Evolution's own WRC4 on PS2. When I learned they wouldn't be making any more(instead churning out the drivel that is the Motorstorm series), I felt that decent realistic rally games would be no more. Hopefully Milestone will do the licence justice and make McRae's last 2 games a distant memory.

I am looking forward to it. But I am not sure how good it is going to be. Hope this will be their best game so far because their previous car racing at least, have not been great

Im assuming you mean V8 Superstars. Havent played it, although I liked the look of it. There have been mixed reviews of it, but something tells me that with their WRC game, we're in for a treat. With V8, they were up against the likes of Grid, Shift and Ferrari Challenge. With the WRC game there is no real competition to speak of - both Dirt games were average and weren't even proper rally games.

i have fond memories of cmr on ps1 they nailed the difficulty and sounds back then. even V8 supercars on ps2 (never got to get v8 supercars 2) (toca for those in europe.) had lasting appeal because of the realism.
id really like them to do some some really realistic sound recording for the cars/gravel/screeching/tarmac etc. And have some local stages from here in australia. in cmr the stages were "Australia" but i couldn't recognize them from anywhere i had been. there are a few around here so it would be nice to see them in the game. dirt was fun but had a few flaws mainly motion blur and response of the cars. felt like the tires never lost traction at all. also Mcrae1 is the best tutoral for driving i had ever had.
