Bought it this morning and just had a couple of hours on it...using the DF-GT.....
First up it looks horrible....well not horrible, I'd put it on par with ferrari challenge. It dose however run smilky smooth just the graphics are a little low res with plenty of jagies, but don't let that put you off! The game has actualy greatly improved on every other front from the original!
Ok there are a few "issues" but none are major, the biggest has to be the steering, theres a dead zone and also no matter what mode you play in there's "speed sensitive steering" This sounds prety fatal but.......it's not as pronounced as the deadzone in NFS Shift. It takes a while to get use too and once you do it's not an issue.
Physics...prety good, you can actualy recover a slide now! understeer is evident as is oversteer and using the throtle to balance the car in corners feels natural. Going on the grass however dosn't lose you much traction but dose slow you down, once you grt into races though this is a blessing.
AI......I tried normal, Hard and Legend, Normal was far to easy to beat and Legend was way out of my leauge at the moment but gives me something to aim at, Hard was about right for now. The AI themselves are prety good, tage one and he'll barge you back, they'll try and block you also but will back off rather than hitting you on purpose. I'd say overall there hard but fair, they will "rub" you if your blocking them but not so hard that you'll be off at every corner if your holding up traffic.
The cars.....I only tried the BMW and the Merc, have to say I prefared the Merc, there are noticable differences between the 2 cars and I suspect that goes for all the cars, sound wise you need to crank up the volume to get the full effect which won't set your ears on fire, it will make you smile. the incar views are also compitent if a little low on detail.
Overall, I'd give it an 8/10 I personaly can see me putting some hours into the game but I wouldn't say it was for everyone. The game seems to just hold back from full sim mode but dose make up for it with the TOCA style close races, not tried it online yet and have so far only done a couple of quick races and a full race weekend in championship mode...
OK awnsers to the inevituble questions LOL
Pits.......Yes there there but no you don't use them in race, you just drive through them.
FFB....a little light, car feels vauge until you get used to it as with all new racers.
Deadzone......It's there but not as bad as NFS, not noticable once your used to it.
wet tracks.....yes they are stunning and the racing line dries as the laps go on and it dose effect handleing.
Final note here and it's a big one! In the first game there was inconcistancy in the handleing when pushing the car to the limit, that has now been fixed, the cars are very consistant lap after lap and fairly docile if not on the limit. The impression of speed is very good and although the game runs at 30fps you wouldn't know it! The graphics are a letdown but that aside the game itself is very solid, not as twitchy as say supercars but this allows you to concertrate on defending lines and setting up passes, very very gratifying when you get in the groove.
Quick update, the inconcistancy in the first game was partly down to tyre wear, in the new game tyre wear is still there but it's lot less pronounced, you do need to adjust your breaking points and cornering speed but it's far easier to judge, oh and more on the "recovering from a slide" I mean by that, recovering from oversteer, give it the usual oposite lock and it feels right when the car snaps back and it wont see you fish tailing down the straight unless you make it do it LOL
Again these are my first impressions after only a few hours play only used the DF-GT so no idea how it handles with the pad, I am glad to say it's a big improvement over the first game, I'd put it with FC,SCC, NFS Shift and prolouge
