Welcome to the Weekly Hot Hatch Series!

Thanks to Gt5anticip8r for coming up with the idea and running the first week.

Now, as far as cars go:

Division into 2 classes.

Class 1 would be any hatchback with an engine capacity of exactly 2.0l or above. This would include bigger, more powerful cars (Golf R32, etc.).

Class 2 would be any hatchback with an engine capacity below 2.0l. This would include hot hatches such as the Lupo GTi, etc.

Regulations:
Cars may be modified in any way, other than Race Modified.
  • No race cars allowed. This includes tuner cars and rally cars. (No HPA Stage II R32, Delta S4 Rally Car, WRC cars, etc.)
  • Any tires, including slicks, may be used.
  • Drivers may change their car from week to week, as long as they enter the same car for the entire week.
  • No regulation on driver aids.
  • The car must have a vertically opening rear tailgate (No station wagons though!). Above all else, the car must be classified as a hatchback in real life.

To enter:
Complete your best lap in Time Trial/Practice mode. Take a picture of your result at the end of the session. As long as it shows the car (in words), time and track it’s sufficient.

Submit your lap by sending the picture, along with the exact name you want to race as to gtp-whh@coyle-uk.co.uk.

I will place your lap in the correct class and sort everything out from there.
Please note: The reason I'm keeping the submissions through e-mail is so as not to clutter up this thread. Especially since you’re bound to submit more than one time, as you improve. Feel free, though, to discuss lap times in here (as well as any queries you may have).

Week 2 will be as per the original week 2, Autumn Ring, Forward, No Weather. Times accepted from midday 14th. Times to be submitted by midday (GMT) Friday 28th.

thanks for picking up the slack. Ill be participating. its a shame we all have to wait a week for week 2 results though.

btw, will you be classifying cars w/ displacements like 1990cc+ to be 2L? In real life they would be. This way we dont get sti+EVO in class 2.

It is a shame, but I don't have anybody's email with the week 2 results, so i thought rather than people having wasted their time, just extend it.

Same as before, anything that would be classed as a 2.0l in real life will be classed as a 2.0l here. So 1.99l down to 1.95l is a 2.0l and therefore Class 1. 1.94 and below would be Class 2

Have sent my times in, can definitely see more space to improve, but I don't really like the track too much so I'll leave it for now.

In the interest of varying the competing cars, would it be worth considering limiting the class 2 entries to FWD only from next week? I get the feeling that the Peugeot will dominate every week otherwise - with FWD only there are quite a lot of cars within a second or so of one another.

In week 1, the top three were one 4WD and two FWD's, but I know where you are coming from. If we see how the table looks at the end of week 2 before making a decision, would that be okay? I'm also thinking would an RM/Tuner class be desirable?

While I personally wouldn't be interested in a Tuner/RM class (I'd like to see more quirky cars, less 'traditional' ones), I think there are those that would be.

It's not so much that I think the Peugeot is unbeatable - it's just I haven't managed to beat my laptimes in it with any other hot hatch. I've had some wonderfully enjoyable drives in FF cars trying to beat it, and most of those I've tested have been relatively comparable against each other. I start putting consistent fast laps in with them, then jump in the Peugeot and suddenly I'm a second or two up.

I sorta agree, the Peugeot is a great car for this. We dont want to make this too complicated though. If anything, Id just split it:
Class 1 FF
Class 2 FF
Class 1 FR/MR/4WD
Class 2 FR/MR/4WD

Or just leave it like it is, and if you drive FF, just have you own little competition (ignore the 4WD cars).

Under 4 hours until the weeks 2 deadline. Make sure to get all your times in! I should have the results sharpish after that and will put the Week 3 track up.

Cool, think I need to put more effort in this time!

4WD cars could be highlighted in Bold, FR/MR in Italic?

eight6er has come out on top of the Class 1 standings for the second week running and sits on top of the standings.

meoricin sits on top of the Class 2 standings with 96 points.

Week 3 course is Trial Mountain Forward.

I'm in the process of re-jigging the spreadsheet to be able to split (and combine) the results.

I've got a few hours tomorrow night, so I will go through and start grouping cars slightly differently and see how it looks.

On this track nothing can come close to the 205 in class 2, it's easily 1.5 seconds faster than anything else here. A 2WD limit might make it more interesting and that would mean some of the tuner cars could enter too, as I'm not sure that there is any 2WD hatchback tuner cars that are unfairly overpowered, correct me if I'm wrong.

The Audi S3 is in the same ballpark ad the 206. 1.8l, 378bhp, 1182kg, 4wd. 38k from the UCD. I think splitting it down to 4wd and fwd/rwd is the way forward though.

Missed week 2 sadly, and I think I'm quite bad at trial mountain :( Hopefully this week is less crazy and I can spend some time on this.

I'm at about the same for class 2 - not even tried the class 1 yet though. I keep making a hash of the chicane before the finish line - quite annoying!

I've put my times in so far for this week - can upload the photo if anyone wants proof. I'm going for 2 different cars this week.

Trial Mountain is my favourite track, and I found a new car to use, which I think is faster than the 205 can be (it certainly seems so to me, anyway).

Have sent my time in.

I just sent in some times, using the same cars again. I was looking for something new to use in the UCD but didn't find anything interesting.
It'll be very interesting to see what car you found Meoricin:scared:

That looks like a killer of a car Meoricin! Very rare as well according to mygranturismo.net - they don't even have a photo of it!

I came across it while cycling the UCD for my car collection (hit 1000 last night). I nearly skipped past it until I noticed the stock power, so I thought I'd give it a go, with excellent results. I must say it's not as much fun as the 205 can be - it's pretty hard to unbalance. But, I can't argue with the results!

It's a beast.

Don't mean to be a jerk about it, but the CZ-3 isn't allowed according to the rules.

It's a (make believe) factory tuned rally race car. Unless we're talking about different cars, I bought one last night as well.

Edit: I looked at the car list, and apparently there is a "Tarmac" and "Tarmac Rally" version. So ignore all that up there. Still bummed you're so much faster than my time though ;) I need to find a different car. I still haven't seen a 205 pop up in the lot.

I did wonder about the CZ-3 with it being a concept type thing, looks like a pretty awesome time. I'm sticking with FF though this week on Class 2 :)

Can't decide what to use for Class 1 yet...

I agree I questioned using it at first, but by all accounts it's actually a real car, albeit the stats don't quite match the production version (which a quick look says produces 150bhp).

Based on performance though, it's even more ammunition for the argument to split 4WD and FF/FR cars. Might be awkward splitting them now though, when we've already got points on the table using them.

Have we thought about how long we're going to run this for?

I reckon we just keep going as it is then have a refresh of the rules etc. after a few more events.

I've got no problem with you using the road version under the current rules. I just originally thought you were using the rally version which would be against the rules. I haven't actually seen the non-race version show up yet.

Is it the concept for the Colt?

I do think that in a few more rounds the series could finish, and restart with some sort of drivetrain callout/classing being utilized, not sure how though.
