Weekly Hot Hatch Series - Restarted

If we do another couple of weeks, then we will be able to see if it is just 4WD's that are dominating, then the split could be 4WD's & FR in Class 1, and FF's in Class 2. Or keep Class 1 as is, Class 2 FF only and Class 3 4WD and Pre-Tuned but still less than 2l. ARRGGHH - my head hurts, too many options!! But whatever the general consensus is, that will be the way it goes.

I'm in the mid-low end of the times regardless of how it gets split :)

Me too, but the fun in this is taking a car I'd never normally use onto different tracks, and having something to compare it with.

On another note, how is the controlloer/wheel split? I'm using a controller - no space for a wheel setup.

Absolutely, I like trying new tracks/cars, so it's all good.

A wheel/DS3 callout on the leaderboard would be interesting as well.

I think it's ok to mix FF and FR, but 4WD should be separate imo. I think the true spirit of a hot hatch is, 2WD with 1600cc no bigger than 1800cc and no turbo. I think we would have a lot of closely matched cars there. Only the turbo we would have to take peoples word for.
The way it is now is good, because there is no limit to tuning, so nobody can cheat.
just thinking out loud:)
DS3 here, I don't have room for my g25 anymore:grumpy:

Isn't the GTI the poster-child for hot hatches? It's got a 2L turbo.

Don't know which GTi you mean, but thats a modern car you're talking about, they are bigger, overweight cars and have to have bigger engines to try to make them as fast as the old cars. The fastest hothatch today is probably the impreza but thats not a GTi. Most original hothatches had 1.6 to 1.8 non turbo and most importantly were light weight and much more fun to drive than any modern equivalent I've driven. I don't consider many modern cars a true hot hatch except maybe the suzuki swift.

The VW Golf GTI (capital I), arguably the first hot hatch, is still widely referred to as one of the best cars in production by a number of sources. As for the weight of modern cars, that seems a bit like a moot point, all modern cars are heavier than their old models due to comfort and regulations.

The idea of a hot hatch, is taking a basic econo-box family mover and putting a more "oomf" under the hood, and tighter suspension to make your day-to-day driving more fun. Going by that you've got the GTI, WRX, Focus ST/RS, Mazdaspeed 3, Civic Type Rs, etc

All that said, you and your 205 are thoroughly kicking my butt in the little CRZ 👍 Still waiting for that thing to show up in my lot.

edit: I don't mean this to be "preachy" or "you're wrong", just some banter between car people. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to continue :)

Ya no problem, I was just letting you know my view on it, not trying to say anyone else has to agree with me:) I just like the seat of the pants feeling I get from older lighter hot hatches, with really responsive, quick handling. That to me is the no.1 thing that makes a hothatch. I don't get that in modern hot hatches because they just are not exciting in the same way. I had lot's of hot hatches in real life and drove a few more that we're my friends cars, and I think the new cars are ok, but not as much fun, because they are so big and heavy. The most modern hot hatch I would buy, is an EK Civic type R.

I love the EK. Being in the US, you guys over there get much better hatch options overall, so I don't have as much to compare as you would. Americans hate hatches/wagons :(

I should be sending in my times tonight, a few seconds off the fastest lap :dunce:

I didn't realise you were from the US, yeah we had lots of hot hatches here, that explains why you were just thinking of modern cars.

I just sent in my times, I could see another .4 of a second just but I couldn't get it.

My times this week are not as good as previous, but I like these two different cars, possibly just because of the variety having driven the Impreza and the Pug for the past 3 weeks.

Now to think of the next track...

Madrid? I'll have to spend a lot of time on this one. Hopefully I'll find a new car to fiddle with for the smaller class. Any premium suggetions? I picked up the Swift the other day on eight6er's suggestion.

Yeah, Madrid. Personally have hardly ever driven it, and it's got lots of places where time can be lost - again the last chicane before the line being one of them. It was all on the toss of a coin though, between Madrid and London (which i've driven even less than Madrid!).

I always take the last corner too quick. There's the little bit of guard rail that sticks out, I nail it about a third of the time. I've only ever driven it in A-Spec, never on my own, so this should be good.

Pretty tough track to get right, managed just under 1:28 with my Class 2 Mitsubishi up to now.

I'm on 1:27.888 with the Audi S3 and 1:24.682 with the Impreza. I can nail some decent sectors together, but I very rarely manage to string good sectors together into a decent lap.

Late entry anyone? Willing to give a Delta Integrale a thrash...

All you need to do is go to practise, select the track in the car you want, freerun, and take a photo showing your best times for the week, send it to the email address in the OP, and you're in!

Well, I'm not entirely satisfied with my lap - but it'd have been a hell of a lot slower if I hadn't spent all that time practising the course for the Focus seasonal event. Very glad that I did that properly without resorting to SRF now. I probably would have accepted a time 2/3 seconds slower if I didn't know there was so much time hidden around the course in this track.

Not doing so great on this track, it's a tricky one. Tried a few new cars, but ended up back at my old ones. I'll give it a few more goes and send in my times.

I've managed to trim my Audi S3 time down to 1:26 ish. The issue is judging the braking zones and not carrying too much speed through some of the corners - too fast and you're out of shape for the next complex!

This track is extremely boring, I can see another 1 second easy but I just can't keep interested long enough, it's like a chore.
