Great race everyone. This was my first online endurance and it was a lot of fun. I finished 4th overall with a best lap time of 1:08.145.

I'm pretty sure I had to pit five times since I kept burning up my tires. I definitely need to work on my pit strategy and drive more conservatively as it cost me a lot of valuable time this race.

Thanks again to everyone for coming out.

Sorry for the bump into 1 on the early stages of the race to whoever it was. You were wildly all over the track and I was trying to out brake you there after 3 laps of waiting for you to figure out which line you wanted. The car in front does have the right away but that doesn't mean you get to take the entire track. The attitude I gave was inappropriate and I apologize but I was getting progressively aggravated being stuck behind you for fear your wildness would wreck us both if I attempted a pass. Thankfully your spin in 1 allowed me to pass you clean.

I think you might be talking about me. I was driving a black Gallardo and I had the lead the first few laps. I just watched the replay and you first caught up to me at the end of lap 4 and slammed into the back of me on the first turn of lap 5. I led for another lap, holding a steady line, until you passed on the second turn of lap 6. I had some people on mute due to static so you might not have been talking about me, but I just wanted to clear that up in case. Good race everyone!

Join me in my lobby at 8pm tonight (about 10 minutes) for some Lamborghini vs. Ferrari fun.

At this point I'm signing off GTPlanet. If you have questions PSN me @ benda18. See you in Rome!

Here's a tease for next week's race:
Bern%20-%20Market%20Street.jpg

Looking forward to that Nissan March Race next week! I used one in a seasonal event and really enjoyed the handling.

Wasn't in the race but lead car is allowed 1 blocking move on the straights and choice of driving line in turns. More then 1 blocking move is a racing rules violation. Of course if the person had lag it would seem like the car was all over the place since your system wouldn't know exactly where the other drive was.

I wouldn't say it was blocking more like driving an out of control Lambo.

That was my most fun race so far. very entertaining to watch the Ferrari go into crazy power slides. Sometimes they catch it, and sometimes they do not.

Mike: great race. My best lap was 1:08.323.

If Ning had not retired, he would have won for sure. I had the lead after the first lap--the Gallardo had great acceleration off the line. I was steadily losing ground to Ning on the 2nd lap. Having raced against Ning and lapped by him on Sunday with the Cappucinno, I was just trying to minimize damage. At some point, Netheral and Mike caught up to me and we had a great battle for a bit until I braked too late into turn 3(?). By lap 8, the tires were going fast, and I pitted on lap 18. At that point, I thought there was no chance for me, since Ning and Mike had not pitted. After I pitted I was catching up and trying to do math in my head and failing miserably.

I then pitted again on lap 40 (made the second set last 22 laps instead) and when i came out i had like 2 or 3 seconds lead over Mike. I credit that to my in-lap and out-lap a la Michael Schumacher. Haha, not really. Anyway, my tires were fresher, but Mike was fast. I was just fast enough to hold him off and Mike could have gone for some risky overtaking maneuver but he refrained. Those last 25 laps I was holding my breath for sure.

At some point, I got punted by McG and had damaged on my car and Mike passed. But his tires were gone too so I retook the lead. I tried to manage the tires but I felt they were wearing out at the same rate even with slower laptime. That was when my math mistake caught up to me. In a desperate attempt to gain speed, I did not add enough fuel at my last stop so had to pit again. Haha, so dumb.

I am definitely firing my crew chief for not being able to do elementary addition/subtraction.

Man thats crazy! My crew chief made the mistake of telling me to stay out and wait for Mike to pit. Mike has gone longer on tires in each of the races we've done so far and he pointed out that he was also quite fast tonight. So I waited for him to pit then did, but I really think I lost quite a bit of time in doing so. I was running 1:07-1:08 for 10 laps, 1:08-1:09 for the next 5 and 1:09-1:10 for the last 4 in my 19 lap strategy...

Such a great shot of those Lambo's grabbing the "Bull by the Horns" at the start. Such great speed and acceleration. You should have seen my face as you three passed me on the start. Then I saw all of you sliding through turn 1...

I'm sure the Lambo was tough on the tires because you guys were sliding all over the place and I remember back to the 2nd or 3rd race of the Grand Tour Special Event my Lambo was doing the same thing.

I think you might be talking about me. I was driving a black Gallardo and I had the lead the first few laps. I'm pretty sure it was you. I "caught" you a while before that I was just taking a more conservative approach watching your line to see where I could pass. Problem was you were sliding around so much you ate up a lot of the track and I was running 2 seconds slower then I wanted to behind you. The time before I could have swore you dove deeper into 1 and slid around it and thats why your earlier braking caught me off guard.

It wasn't intentional at all and I'm sure with a more stable car you would have been more consistent with your line, those Lambo's are crazy.

I hope there are no hard feelings and we can have some more fun races in the future.

... More race photos ...

Nice shots Mike!

I actually qualified faster then I'd ran in all of my practice sessions, with my race setup anyway. I had a much faster setup that was hmm I'd say more like the Lambo. After 8 laps I'd be sliding around all the turns but those first 8 would all be 1:06-1:07. I decided against using it in the pre-race practice session because of all the qualifying issues we've had in the Cappuccino Series where I've had 2 pole position times and started 14th and 3rd.

As for the upcoming events I hope we can get a full house for the Marrrrrch Forward Event next week. With the figure 8 configuration the more cars will make it all the more interesting. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your mom and lets get a full field for next week!

Also would like to try and get a jump start on narrowing down the regulations for the upcoming events.

MAR 14: Marrrrrch Forward - Nissan March @ Top Gear Test Track - Sprint-style figure-8 racing

I know the seasonal had a few different cars based on the March platform and I'm sure we'd go with Sport Soft tires here. I have one thats fully modded already and it's specs are 234hp, 849kg, 468pp but it's not broken in yet so the HP and PP will jump a bit. I'll do some laps tomorrow and try to see what I come up with for lap times so we can estimate a race distance (sprint distances?).

Marrrrrch Forward Possible Entry List
Nissan March 12c 5 door '03
Nissan March 12SR '07
Nissan March G# '99
Nissan Micra '03

MAR 21: LM Race Cars @ Circuit de la Sarthe (24hour time change simulation)

I'm not 100% sure what the entry list would be like here. When you say the LM Race Cars do you mean the ones they've created specifically for GT like the Honda NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car? Or do you mean like the top division LMP Race Cars like the Peugeot 908 hdi FAP and Audi R10? Then of course there are also the Group C racers or GT1 Racers... Lots of options here. Here are some PP values for some of the unmodded/unbroken-in cars I have.

LM Cars
Honda NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car - 571 PP / 496 HP / 1120kg

LMP1
Audi R10 TDI Race Car - 698 PP / 797 HP / 925kg
Peugeot 908 HDi FAP Race Car - 692 PP / 679 HP / 930kg

LMGTP/LM900
Bentley Speed 8 - 704 PP / 762 HP / 900kg

Group C
Nissan R92CP Race Car - 713 PP / 911 HP / 900kg
Sauber Mercedes-Benz C9 Race Car - 719 PP / 899HP / 893kg

GT1 Cars
BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car - 641 PP / 584 HP / 950kg

GTS Cars
Corvette C5-R - 626 PP / 592 HP / 1139kg
Dodge Viper GTS-R Team Oreca Race Car - 628 / 570 HP / 1150kg

GT Cars
BMW M3 GTR Race Car - 563 PP / 430 HP / 1120kg

MAR 28: Nurburging GP/F - Aston Martin DB9 vs Jaguar XKR or Lotus Esprit vs TVR Tuscan/Tamora
APR 4: Super GT (GT500) cars at Fuji.
APR 11: mikethehockeyfan's secret race. details forthcoming

Can we move the schedule around a bit so that the Super GT Race @ Fuji isn't on the 4th? I'll be gone on vacation that week and would hate to miss the Super GT's at Fuji! Preferably just swapping it with battle UK. It would actually work out quite well with the secret race being the 11th since I'll be getting back late on the 10th and wouldn't have time to prep for a race anyway.

wow... I should sleep.

Holy overnight responses Batman. I'll try to read everything (and check out the great pics) sometime today. First thing I need to do is put up race results and set preliminary specs for next week's March race.

Posted for posterity:

MAR 7 Race: Rome (265KM) - Lamborghini vs Ferrari
Monday March 7 - Lobby Open @ 8:00pm, Race @ 8:30pm Eastern (GMT-5)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Rivalry week continues with a battle between Lamborghini and Ferrari on home-ish turf in Rome.

We made a last minute decision to do a 90 minute race rather than a 45 or 60 minute race. Turned out to be 265KM rather than the originally anticipated 200KM. PP is raised to 600 to accommodate some of the more powerful of the brood, and tire restriction has changed to Racing Hard to accommodate the additional power (similar to the Viper ACR @ Laguna Seca race a few weeks ago). THIS MEANS WAR AGAIN!

Ok everyone, preliminary race specs are posted here. Going to need some help figuring out PP points (I'm guessing somewhere 425. Also need to figure out how many races and how long they will be. Again, guessing 5-6 races @ 10 laps each, or mix them up with some longer, some shorter.

Thoughts?

* This week more than any there were issues with passing and bumping and ramming etc. I'm going to post my complete thoughts on everything at lunch time.
* No problem moving the Fuji Race and the UK race.
* I went ahead and added all 4 of the cars you mentioned for the March race. I was initially going to include these but then I noticed that the '07 has like 33% more power than any of the others. I don't care if anybody wants to use a low powered car but the thing I hate is when someone sees the specs on Monday night at 7PM then they show up with an underpowered car, get frustrated and quit after 10 laps. If we just make everyone race the same car (the Premium '07) then you don't have this problem.
* In terms of the LeMans race I need serious help. I don't know my race cars very well but I was just thinking any race car in the game that had the "LM" suffix in it. Although I'm not opposed to racing LMP, Group C, GT1/2/3, GT500, GT300, DTM, etc. I guess all we really need is a list of comparable cars that can be found easily (i.e. premium dealership).

whew. that was a lot. gotta run.

Gah!! I was practicing all week for this, and got caught up with family crap at the last minute. So dissapointed. My Gallardo was tuned just right. Good luck though guys. Looking forward to the report after.

Can someone save the replay, if it's not too much trouble. I'm interested if my lap times would have been close.
I have the replay. I have no way to post to youtube, but i can try to send it to you.

I know there were a few run-ins but I think everyone deserves a little slack here at Rome because there is literally NO where to go beyond the main racing line, and braking points were being pushed really far back due to the high-power cars on **** tyres. I had situations where, during the race, I was the lead car and probably losing 1 to 2 seconds a lap to the guy in 7th place, causing some odd, "Who should let who by, exactly?" situations.
Agree completely.

Racers who are about to be lapped need to yield to lapping racers, right? Need to check OLR

I made my greatest online pass ever in this race. With Benda18 pushing, I timed the outside line through the chicane perfectly and overtook B-McG with a foot or so to spare. Benda18 who was right behind me, made a comment or two that unfortunately I couldnt process while racing.

My best laps were consecutive 1:07.8xx which completely shredded my tires. I worked out my pit strategy before the race though and as long as I kept to 1:09.xxx I could reasonable achieve 17 laps a pit. I pit after 16, 31,45 and 63 and took no more than the 18 liters each time.

To the First PIT

Lap 16 was a NIGHTMARE. I took the pit a lap to late and had to coast after turn 1. Made it through a few corner in decent shape. But Then (PICTURE MOVIE PREVIEW VOICEOVER GUY), in an all too familiar scene my car reached the bloody chicane whose outside wall grabbed my car like a magic trick and instead of the regular veer created...It hooked me on the bumpers as if by some otherwordly power and would not let off. I never spun during the race, but there was a sudden outburst of profanity laced hyperbole that soon followed. That last section alone I lost 15 or 16 seconds while attempting to move the car forward.

To the Second PIT

I raced a bit more aggressively post first pit, continously knocking the left front quarter panel through the chicane to counter the slight understeer (in 4WD??) my car gained from the ballast added. (just before the race I did Weight reduction 3 and jumped to 609 PP. I should have corrected with power limited, but instead added ballast...MISTAKE.

To the Third PIT

Had my top four or five laps in this 14 lap burst which destroyed my tires. I played chase the entire time still making up the time lost from Lap 16. The difference between a good and great lap, being just a couple seconds, I gave the beast everything and saw my distance behind everyone shrink...even the lead time. I spent many laps between 40 and 60 just shadowing GrahamTurismo and to his credit he didnt flinch for 10-12 straight laps of pressure. I finally overtook on Turn 3 (?) the slowest corner and never used the look back function. I just tape that button down so I'm not tempted to succome to pressure

The Last PIT

With GrahamTurismo right on my tail, I pit early hoping he'd follow me in. He'd been pitting a lap or two before me and my hope was that I'd have him compromised on strategy, so his last couple laps would get quite dicey. I'm not sure how he faired as I took no fuel and came out of the pits a good 9-10 seconds ahead while he must have taken on some. I was lighter and was able to coast around for the final 10 laps with no threats. Snoopykuan running out of petrol with a couple laps to go was merely luck, but all the same it was an excellent time had by all. Save for Ning whose probable victory was stolen.

PS: Benda...could you upload any pics with my ride in them plz. :sly:

I kept hitting the lapped near the chicane and aside from previously mentioned pass, I remained patient the rest of the way. I appreciate GTP_Kamikaze and B-McG moving to the outside on the final corner several times for me to come through. It's nice to see OLR followed accordingly. This course those was not condusive to passing lappers. There's a finite numbers of overtaking opportunites and in between its a crapshoot.

:):)Another big thank you for people not quitting the race. I cannot tell you, as many know how frustrating it is to start a race with 12 and end with 7 or 8. I'm glad folks here finish what they choose to begin.

That would be super, thanks.

Really bummed I missed this, after reading all these great reports. I don't know how well I would have done though, having only been able to scrape the low 1:09's a couple times in my practices.

Now, I'm off to but some Nissan March's. :)

Oh, and it seems we have our answer... Lambo's are better. :)

You d--k! :P Nice strategy. I did need fuel or I'd have run out with a couple laps left as well, which is why I took longer in the pit. I couldn't understand how you just completely ran away after that though... turns out I lost 20 hp from when the race started. I should have changed oil before the race, and maybe I'd have managed to catch you. I thought I had a pretty good shot at 3rd, and around the end of the race I knew I could at least manage a guaranteed 4th... that was until I got used as a turning assist on the last lap and rammed into the wall.

I have a Lotus, TVR and Aston ready for next week and I'll be on vacation the week after. I think we ought leave the schedule how it was since its been posted for awhile now.

The reason you didn't understand what I said was that I was babbling. Seeing that pass was like seeing bewbies for the first time - you don't know what to say but you know it's definitely a good thing.

I'll do pics sometime before Friday

Here's my official response regarding the heavy contact experienced in last night's race:

As many have stated Rome was a really tight course with few passing opportunities. We were driving powerful cars in close proximity to each other. It's also a small course so there is always going to be traffic. If this was Monza (as we had debated earlier, but passed on for this race) I'm sure there would've be much less contact and much less conflict.

As race host I'm responsible for enforcing the race rules. I did not see any of the conflicts tonight (and since I'm so slow I don't usually see any of it in other races). I have absolutely no problem kicking people who are violating the OLR but if you're making the request to kick you need to be 100% sure that the other party is blatantly being a jagoff. The thing is, everyone can be a jagoff from time to time (including myself). If you're driving around the course backwards that's easy to spot. If your tires are worn and you punt someone who brakes early, that's not so easy to call.

Last night I was really worried that things were going to get of hand, but I knew that it was because the racing was tight, not because someone was being a jagoff. You guys up front were fast - real fast- and jagoffs aren't usually fast. What was great also is that everyone plugged their mics in and worked things out and apologized. I like that, it's how gentlemen work things out.

I'm personally inviting each and every person who raced last night to come back again next week and race with us. I know words were spoken last night, but I want everyone to know they're welcome back. And thanks for keeping it civil.

It might not be a bad time for everyone to review the OLR either (see the first post of this thread).

I have one more thing to add here. This was definitely an awesome race. Towards the end I had lost count of laps and how many times I'd been lapped / lapped others. I think I was 1 lap ahead of CAMikaze, but 1 lap behind Brandofo, who I thought was also 1 lap behind the next guy. It was crazy, and I think everyone had a different pit strategy (some 2 pits, some 3, some 4, maybe 1 person had a 5-pit strategy???). yet #1-5 all finished within 25 seconds of each other after 90 minutes of racing. Incredible!!!

Oops, I already changed it. What race do you absolutely not want to miss and when will you be on vacation?

Oh...thats alright. I prefer no changes made on my or any particular driver's behalf without vote. You've changed this one...which is fine but however many people race...we'll be dealing with that many different schedules etc.

On a side note: I'm a much bigger fan of 450-500PP races. Speed and throttle control are of greater importance and the racing is I think more fluid. I'm so excited to race around the TGTT in March's. I love the track and the Hammerhead and Gambon's corner do well to sort out the pack. We will however have to keep a keen eye out of cutting. I believe the dotted cones are fair game to cross two wheels over but the solid cones work as boundaries. (This is how PD set the special event regulations for TGTT)

When I first stared Monday Night Endurances I didn't even have a list of upcoming races. We'd race Monday night then I'd panic on Tuesday trying to figure out an event to do for the next week (luckily there were several awesome people who helped out figuring out specs and events). I finally got tired of procrastinating and made an out list of possible future races that I could pull from any given week. It has kinda evolved into the "Future Races" quote box in the first post. But it was always intended to be flexible, and we've changed things around prior.

If the group as a whole wants to make things more concrete and firm I can do that. But I'd rather give up that security to accommodate as many people as possible. Me, I don't really care what we do any week, I just want to race.

With that said, I can do a couple of things: 1) I can just put the schedule back to how it was, or 2) I can try to work with your schedule and Bri-y's (and anyone else's) and see if we can work out something so that everyone gets to race their most anticipated races. As long as it's easy I don't really care.

I try to do something different every week, and I make an effort to do a slow race every few races. Ideas??? Aside from the upcoming Super GT race at Fuji I don't really see us doing many more races above 500pp.

Also, by the time I got around to testing for the Ferrari/Lamborghini race and I realized that 600pp was too high it was too late to chagne. I mean you couldn't even tune most Ferraris to anything above 550-575pp, and that's just stoopid. I really wanted to race my F40 but it was a non-starter. For future races like this one I'm going to make sure that the PP is set so that more cars can race; there's really no need to have to add more power to a Murcielago SV anyways.

As far as the Nissan March race goes, I'm super stoked.

We could always use the Super GT300 cars instead of the GT500. Or depending on how many people are racing use both?

I personally enjoy the GT300 cars more but would be willing to do the GT500.

Yesterday afternoon my thoughts were to re-do the 300KM Fuji Super GT race from 2010 that got cancelled. At the time I figured that using the GT300 cars would mean a 2+ hour race, while the GT500 cars would mean a <2 hour race. Like you I'm more interested in racing the GT300 cars; I think it will mean cleaner racing for us as a whole.

Today I'm thinking we should reduce the distance and definitely do the GT300 cars. Maybe we can test to see what average lap times would be then shoot again for a 60-90 minute race? It was nice being done by 10pm last night :)

question: how do i get the top gear test track available in my online lounge? i didnt see it.

Maybe its unlocked after doing the Top Gear special events?

I cant say I ever looked for it in my lounge before and wouldnt it be something if we couldnt even do it online....

It's definitely there for me, I've used it before online. In fact, I was testing on it in my lounge yesterday before the Rome race.

st1sj - I would check your list again to make sure it's not there. If it isn't you need to get your sambabus/TGTT special event bronzed quick so you can test :)

I know for sure I did not get gold in all 3 Top Gear challenges. So maybe that is why. I hope I do not have to get golds to unlock the track, because those are 3 frustrating challenges.

From brandofo's post in the Suzuki Cappuccino thread:

:scared::scared:No pictures of my car yet...

@Benda--Hopefully I didnt come off to strong. I'm quite laid back. Since I joined this only recently I confess I did not read the forum posts except the OP and those after my first post. I have no feelings about particular races to run and should I miss one I'm looking forward to...I simply set up my preferences online and host a room to my liking. I enjoy following. It's easier :banghead:And I hate doing work after I leave work.:P

It's easier And I hate doing work after I leave work.:P
No worries my man :)

I'm happy to put my time into this and will continue to do so as long as people come back to race. Don't tell anyone but the main reason I do this is because I only have 1 night per week to race and I got tired of searching for hours and hours trying to find a decent room.

Plus, I like doing endurance races and pretty much nobody else is doing that right now online. I would've been happy to find just 1 other person to race but to see 8-10 people show up every week is awesome.
