If the race started 1 hour earlier (8:30pm Eastern) would you participate?

  • Total voters
    12
  • Poll closed .
100 laps would be 350KM. That would take somewhere just under 2 hours. thoughts?

If the reasoning behind changing the time from 930 to 830 was because the race was too late for some people then making the race 2hrs is pointless because now the race will again be too late for those people.

You bring up a good point. Here's my thoughts though:

The 9:30 time was set to accommodate a west coast forum member who didn't race after the first race. after a poll it appears that most people are willing to start earlier.

In the past races would end around 10:30-11pm. By the time I got to bed it was after midnight (spent time testing, updating the thread, etc.). I'm ok with continuing this, although it would be awesome to start getting to bed an hour earlier. If on occasion we use that extra hour to do a longer race, that's cool with me if it's cool with everyone else. I certainly didn't anticipate making every race 2 hours long.

With a 9:30pm start time there was no way I'd ever want to be doing a 2 hour race and be getting to bed at 1am (and waking up at 5:30 for work).

ill be there tonight - hope to see RT in the field as well
benda, will send friend request when i get home this aft.

If you can't make the race tonight Prophet I'm sure we can reserve an honorary pole position for you :)

Looking forward to all the new faces this week.

I think what we'll do to resolve the distance issue is discuss things during qualifying. The following scenarios will be discussed:

1 hour (57 laps)
1.5 hours (76 laps)
2 hours (100 laps)

The default will be the 1 hour race. If everyone can agree to race longer we'll step it up from there.

I'm still hoping to have a go this evening, but my mother requested my wife and I join her for dinner tonight. I, for one, appreciate the 20 hour heads up....
We're eating at 5:30 CST, so hopefully I'll be home and fit for racing in time.

i have an idea for the April 4th race which is currently open. We could run the Fuji 300KM Super GT race that was scheduled for September 12, 2010 but was subsequently cancelled due to a Typhoon (Press Release Here). We could probably run this event in under 2 hours using GT500 cars.

That's a cool idea.

I also had an interesting idea for a one-make race: a "surprise" car.

One week we will know the track and that the race will be one-make, but the car being used for the race will only be revealed about an hour before race time. It'll be interesting to see who can do well with minimal testing and practice time.

OK this is an awesome idea. Consider the April 11th race yours. Think about the race and how it will work, the PM me with a "business plan" of sorts. For example: If the car is revealed 1 hour before race is it going to come straight from the generic online cars list (this would be a great idea, although it would be somewhat limited). If not, what is the plan to make sure everyone has time (and credits) to purchase it? Will you then set tuning restrictions, PP limit, ect?

Just my thoughts. Run with it though, we have plenty of time to figure out the details.

I'm up for that. :) May have to spring for another GT500 car since the only one I currently have is the Nissan GT-R Stealth car.

looking forward to competing in the rome endurance tonight in my lambo
Me too in the Ferrari Challenge spec Italia. ;)

last week we had 6 racers. i'm sure there will be room for you tonight.

Join me in my lobby at 8pm tonight (about 10 minutes) for some Lamborghini vs. Ferrari fun.

At this point I'm signing off GTPlanet. If you have questions PSN me @ benda18. See you in Rome!

Here's a tease for next week's race:

Gah!! I was practicing all week for this, and got caught up with family crap at the last minute. So dissapointed. My Gallardo was tuned just right. Good luck though guys. Looking forward to the report after.

Can someone save the replay, if it's not too much trouble. I'm interested if my lap times would have been close.

I wasnt able to make the race either but I believe your lap times would need to be around 1:07. That is what I was getting with my lambo when I was testing.

Man, what a crazy race. I won due to nyngdynasty's "engine failure" (aka disconnect) and snoopy running out of fuel.

Had a great battle between 2nd-5th place cars for the first 10 laps while nyng pulled away and then it was pretty obvious tyres were going south quickly with all those double-right bends. High-powered sports cars and no aids make for some pretty spectacular oversteer, but I saw some colossal spin-outs and some great saves during the early race.

I ended up pitting twice, getting about 25-30 laps out of tyres, but the last stint was difficult as I was tailing snoop while on older tyres than him by a couple of laps. Lapped traffic passes and our one or two errors resulting in collisions with the walls made the last 10 laps into some very interesting times.

All credit to snoopykuan, he would have won it but he ran out of fuel close to the pits with about 3 laps to go and I managed to nurse my car home on horrible tyres. 1st and 2nd place cars were running less than 2 seconds apart for the last 20ish laps. Most entertaining GT5 online race I've had due to no runoff areas, tons of lapped traffic due to the circuit, and good racing.

My lap times were about:

1:07s = dream laps
1:08s = clean tyres
1:09s = standard laps
1:11s to 1:12s = worn

I know there were a few run-ins but I think everyone deserves a little slack here at Rome because there is literally NO where to go beyond the main racing line, and braking points were being pushed really far back due to the high-power cars on **** tyres. I had situations where, during the race, I was the lead car and probably losing 1 to 2 seconds a lap to the guy in 7th place, causing some odd, "Who should let who by, exactly?" situations.

Yeah I need to talk to my engine builder... Thats so disappointing. If I hadn't have dropped I was quickly changing my pit strategy after playing the waiting game with you on the first stop. I should have just stuck with my 19 lap cycle. When I came out I was only up by 8 seconds on Snoopy after leading you by 15 I think. The gap became increasingly bigger up to the 36 lap point where I was trying to figure out my new pit strategy and boom I got dropped.

Congrats on the win Mike and I'm glad to hear you guys had such a great race :)

Sorry for the bump into 1 on the early stages of the race to whoever it was. You were wildly all over the track and I was trying to out brake you there after 3 laps of waiting for you to figure out which line you wanted. The car in front does have the right away but that doesn't mean you get to take the entire track. The attitude I gave was inappropriate and I apologize but I was getting progressively aggravated being stuck behind you for fear your wildness would wreck us both if I attempted a pass. Thankfully your spin in 1 allowed me to pass you clean.

Wasn't in the race but lead car is allowed 1 blocking move on the straights and choice of driving line in turns. More then 1 blocking move is a racing rules violation. Of course if the person had lag it would seem like the car was all over the place since your system wouldn't know exactly where the other drive was.

That was my most fun race so far. very entertaining to watch the Ferrari go into crazy power slides. Sometimes they catch it, and sometimes they do not.

Mike: great race. My best lap was 1:08.323.

If Ning had not retired, he would have won for sure. I had the lead after the first lap--the Gallardo had great acceleration off the line. I was steadily losing ground to Ning on the 2nd lap. Having raced against Ning and lapped by him on Sunday with the Cappucinno, I was just trying to minimize damage. At some point, Netheral and Mike caught up to me and we had a great battle for a bit until I braked too late into turn 3(?). By lap 8, the tires were going fast, and I pitted on lap 18. At that point, I thought there was no chance for me, since Ning and Mike had not pitted. After I pitted I was catching up and trying to do math in my head and failing miserably.

I then pitted again on lap 40 (made the second set last 22 laps instead) and when i came out i had like 2 or 3 seconds lead over Mike. I credit that to my in-lap and out-lap a la Michael Schumacher. Haha, not really. Anyway, my tires were fresher, but Mike was fast. I was just fast enough to hold him off and Mike could have gone for some risky overtaking maneuver but he refrained. Those last 25 laps I was holding my breath for sure.

At some point, I got punted by McG and had damaged on my car and Mike passed. But his tires were gone too so I retook the lead. I tried to manage the tires but I felt they were wearing out at the same rate even with slower laptime. That was when my math mistake caught up to me. In a desperate attempt to gain speed, I did not add enough fuel at my last stop so had to pit again. Haha, so dumb.

I am definitely firing my crew chief for not being able to do elementary addition/subtraction.

Sorry I was unable to make tonight. I've moved back the event I'm running with some friends of mine to 7:00PM so I can join in on yours at 8:30PM. Nissan March looks fun to drive!
