I keep wavering between the supercharger now and mid-rpm turbo. I exhaust a lot of additional PP with the supercharger that I cannot use on weight. I've built 2 March's now and may go for a third. Thank goodness we're on TGTT...Great track. Hopefully we can keep most of the cones where they are, however I have a feeling that by the third or fourth lap, hammerhead and the followthrough will be littered with them.

I found I got better weight to power ratios without the supercharger, but I haven't gotten to look too much at the mid-rpm turbo. I'm feeling fairly comfortable without a turbo and having a better weight to power ratio.

I just discovered I don't even have the Top Gear track available for testing before the race, because I haven't bothered to do the stupid challenges for it yet

Oh well, 1/2 to setup my car in the online lobby will be enough.

Last week we had a great turnout, let's keep it up this week, guys!!

Awesome races tonight folks. Some have said and I'll agree - the figure-8 crossover made tonight's racing an absolute blast. You'll have to forgive me but I'm going to spend some time getting pictures from the replay before doing anything else.

Yea it was pretty fun but impossible to pass and stay ahead if the person didn't make a mistake.

They really ought turn down the slip stream. Its impossible to run away from anyone if they have 80% of the the talent of the person in front because the draft covers the last 20%

Yea in the last race I was about 12 seconds off first place, got to 4.1s and battled with 2nd place until I got the hammer head penalty and by then we were 8 or 9 seconds off the lead. Then I met up with Ruta a few times in the follow through :indiff:

What I probably should have done was just bump drafted until we caught up to the lead and get a 3 way battle going.

Here's some racing photos I took from the last 20-lapper:

Unfortunately the OLR does not mention penalties for contact in the crossover

Most of those times I called out to him and/or broke hard. I remember once I came to a total stop haha. Then there was the one in the last race where I honestly never saw his triangle on the map. Doesn't matter for me anyway - it took me out completely to last place for that race on lap 20.

Nice races tonight, though - I really enjoyed it!

I should've put a smiley face after my previous comment. There was some risk in the racing; that's what I thought made it fun. You and I were in a pretty sweet battle for last place there, too bad you got disoriented.

and yeah, if you were racing the yellow march you definitely stopped completely in race 3 to yield to the crossing traffic

Yep, that was me in the yellow March!

That was a fun night of racing. CIA and Booch were too fast but I enjoyed running with them for as long as I could. The followthrough was fun too. In the first race I made a lot of mistakes but by the end was running better albeit not mistake free.

So I'm trying to get better at tuning. Instead of blaming my driving I can blame my setup. Here is what I ran with. It understeers like crazy. Let me know if you guys have any thoughts or suggestions.

Every modification
117 hp
919kg
375pp
Max rear aero
70kg ballast at middle
50.4% power limiter
stage 3 turbo
168 mph transmission (I shifted at 6k)
LSD: 5/20/15
Ride height -20/-20
Spring 6.7/6.6
Dampers extension 4/6
Dampers compression 4/4
Anti roll bars 3/3
Camber 2.0/0.0
Toe -.40/-.10
Brake 3/1

I used stock suspension and LSD setup and it worked ok. the biggest setback for me was the fact that I made up all my PPs by weight reduction, and it really showed in the races. power seemed to be more important than weight in this race

Top Gear Test Track - Nissan March 12SR '07
Monday March 14 - Lobby Open @ 8:00pm, Race @ 8:30pm Eastern (GMT-4)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This week we're going to mix things up again and do a series of short sprint races. The track will be the figure-8 Top Gear Test Track. Everyone will be required to use a Nissan March. Lite penalties will be used for this race series due to the extreme ease in corner cutting. Exact race specs will be ironed out by Wednesday night. In case of the TGTT disappearing from online play we'll use Suzuka East and adjust lap counts to reach similar distance races.

Just finished updating the specs for Monday's GT300 race.

I got to thinking how we're visiting Japan this week to re-do a Super GT race that was cancelled due to a 2010 Typhoon, and how Japan just 4 days ago suffered one of the largest natural disasters in the country's history. Could this be just a coincidence?

I've decided to make a donation to the American Red Cross in the amount of $10 for each racer that finishes this Monday's race to support their disaster relief fund. And if we finish a full grid of 16 I'll make my contribution an even $200. Spread the word; tell your friends to come race Monday if for nothing else than to support the cause.

I hope this doesn't seem too self-righteous or anything. It just seems like a good idea.

I'm thinking of having a bumper sticker made and have come up with two options:
Give Cones a Chance or It's a cone...run it over

Questing about the regulation for the next race.

Some cars are allowed to have chassis rigidity and others are not. Why not say all can have it or all can not have it? These cars should all already be pretty equal due to the race series they are in so allowing some cars to be more rigid might give them an unfair advantage.

Very good question. I spoke to this briefly last night after the race but here's the full scoop:

I really don't know the first thing about Super GT racing. I did a few Google searches for "GT300 rules" and "Super GT rules" and got nothing. I was hoping for a simple max HP and min. Weight just to drop into this race. At first I even thought it was going to be 300HP since we're racing GT300 cars, but I was wrong.

So what now? Well there are at least 4 or 5 really successful Super GT Championships going on now on GTPlanet, why not just see what these guys are doing and borrow their regulations? Seems like it would be better than re-inventing the wheel. I borrowed race rules/regulations from "World Super GT Championships" (link). If you click that link you'll see they allow the same modifications as I've posted on the first page.

To answer your question, it appears that "World Super GT Championship" has determined that 2 of the GT300 cars are underpowered and need to have a slight advantage to be competitive. Have I tested this myself? No. Am I willing to deviate? Absolutely, as always.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate all the feedback I get each week - it really helps to hone the race specs and make the events as good as they can be.

If PD didn't feel it necessary to change the cars HP with an oil change they would all be around 300hp.

And since it seems like people took time to figure out what works it should be alright. I didnt plan on running either of the cars with allowed mods even though normally I would drive the Subaru. But I believe it has an inherent disadvantage on Fuji.

Posted this in another race I'm doing on Thursday, but it may be helpful here. A list of the different race cars. Not sure about the accuracy. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=159182
Now I see what's going on here. GT5 only includes 4 GT300 Super GT race cars, so some of these Super GT championships are including JGTC cars too (JGTC became Super GT in 2005). I don't think it makes any difference to us except that all Super GT cars are premium and JGTC cars are standards.

2 cars from this list are not included in my list; not sure why.

It seems like they're all over the place. After taking a look at the GT5 Matrix.xls it appears that:
- Lexus WS IS350 '08 = 295HP/1150KG
- ARTA Garaiya '08 = 324HP/1175KG
- Subaru CUSCO '08 = 295HP/1100KG
- Asparadrink RX7 '06 = 305HP/1100KG
- ARTA Garaiya '03 = 318HP/1125KG
- Toyota MR-S '00 = 382HP/1125KG
- Toyota WS Celica '03 = 321HP/1050KG
so-on and so-forth
