Description: I am very happy right now...I just completed my first ever 100% clean lap of the Nordschleife. On sports tyres with over 400bhp. With a tune I created. I was trawling my old unused cars and came across this blue car...so I stuck on some sports upgrades and some sports tyres, and made a Clubsport version :D with 440bhp it's not slow, and weighing less than a ton makes it agile too. I ran a 7.23.026 on Nordschleife for the British Lightweights seasonal, which this car turned out pretty much tailored for with close to the 550pp limit. I had to keep reminding myself I was using sports tyres, with some very surprising grip where least expected...and the few times the tyres did let me down, I just had to remind myself they weren't slicks and that this tune has come out better than I dared hope.

Dragonthing, why is there a 'No' in the top left corner of the OP?

Uhm...there is? o.o I may have hit something by mistake on this stoopid Android phone...I'll go fix it! :dopey:

Edit: Fixed! Think I typed by accident when I was editing...

Dragonthing’s Nismo Skyline 350GT Sedan - A Review By VTiRoj

First off, a little background info. The Skyline 350GT Sedan is probably the least bought premium Nissan in GT5. No one wants it because, well, why would you choose a fat sedan with a 5-speed gearbox over the coupe with it’s 6-speed? The 350Z is actually 2,000 credits cheaper and we all know how fast 350Z’s are. PD gave us a seasonal a few months back where you needed to use the 350GT Sedan, probably so we’d all buy one. So after buying it, tuning it and driving it, I instantly noticed it understeered like a boat. Even after giving it some tweaks, still understeered. After winning the seasonal, I condemned this 350GT to the bottom of my garage where I left it to rot forever. Until Dragonthing asked me for a review…

Before I went and bought a replica of her actual car, I thought I’d try her settings on my old 350GT Sedan first, just to get a taste of how it handles. So I fished it out, put her numbers in and gave it a whirl. Instant improvement! Not perfect (baring in mind my 350GT has 436bhp in comparison to Dragonthing’s 325bhp) but definitely an improvement. There was less understeer and I could actually enjoy the car now. I tweaked the suspension a little and the 350GT Sedan got even better. Dragonthing’s LSD can easily cope with the extra 110bhp. I decided to paint it the same colour as Dragonthing’s demo car, so now it’s like a RKM/Dragonthing hybrid tune.

That’s not the car I’m supposed to review though, although it’s always good to know a low-power tune can take more power. So I bought another 350GT Sedan, tuned it exactly like Dragonthing’s and painted it in Nismo Diamond Silver Metallic. Somewhat fitting for a car Dragonthing tuned to be a Nismo model, not a full on tune. Which is one of the reasons why I wanted to review this 350GT, it’s unique. It’s not just a “slap everything on” tune, it has carefully chosen parts to give it a Nismo feel.

NissanSkyline-003.jpg

So onto actually testing it. Dragonthing said it’ll beat 1:37 at Trial Mountain, so as it’s also RKM’s test track, I thought it would be a fitting place to put it through its paces. For the record, the RKM/Dragonthing hybrid 350GT Sedan will do Trial Mountain in 1:32, maybe 1:31 if pushed. So anyway, first corner in the Nismo 350GT Sedan. I cut the corner and invalidated my lap. What the hell? I was expecting a little understeer but instead what I get is a great turn-in. The quick right before the sweeping left are taken at relatively high speed and it’s not even trying to shoot off into the wall. Really well planted this car. The brakes are good and there’s no power oversteer, this Sedan just grips and goes. Up the back straight the car pulls nicely. The stock 5-speed hurts it a bit but otherwise it pulls like a 325bhp car should. Braking into the hairpin from high speed there’s no drama, just very nice and smooth cornering. I really can’t fault Dragonthing’s tuning here. I really like this car now. My invalidated lap is 1:37:2, so can definitely go faster.

So with that done, review mode is turned off and time attack mode is turned on. The 350GT copes with the abuse pretty well. There’s no change in its behaviour and there’s plenty of spare grip when I go too hot into corners. There are no hidden surprises and honestly it still feels easy to drive. It’s easily capable of doing constant 1:36’s and after 5 laps my best time is 1:35.449 and I know there’s a 1:34.9 in this car somewhere.

NissanSkyline-004.jpg

Overall I’d give this a 9/10. It really needs a new gearbox though because the stock unit is trash. I didn’t use 5th at all on Trial Mountain. A close-ratio 5 speed would be a great choice if the racing transmission goes beyond the idea of it being a Nismo model. So yeah, pat yourself on the back Dragonthing, you’ve got me liking this car again with your tune. :D

Glad to hear you like it :D I was honestly as impressed as you that such a big sedan can actually turn. You should go glue on the close ratio transmission and see what improvements that makes on speed...I have a habit of randomly picking tracks to test and I think I probably ended up on my high-speed Eifel loop at the time I uploaded the tune :dopey: I'm glad to see my first review is a good one! :D

Lap time with close-ratio box: 1:34.740

Now it's a 10/10 tune. :D:tup:

Dragonthing’s Isuzu 4200R Concept - A Review By VTiRoj

Like before, we’ll start with some background on the car. I’ve had a completely untouched 4200R in my garage since December 5th last year. I didn’t even take it out to see how this bonkers-looking Isuzu drove. I just left it there, as if it didn’t exist. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m a fan of how it looks and the concept behind it, I just never found a reason to drive it, until now, when Dragonthing wanted me to review hers. So I blow the dust off this Isuzu, which is only a little older than me.

I build the car to Dragonthing’s specs and painted it in Mitsubishi Pyrenees Black Pearl, for no reason other than I wanted this car to be black and I have a pile of Pyrenees Black Pearl in my garage. It looks good anyway, especially when you keep the stock wheels. This tune, unlike the Skyline Sedan, is a full on tune with racing tyres.

Isuzu4200R-001.jpg

I took the car to Suzuka East. The long straight will give me a good feel of the straight line speed of this car and the constant S curves on the other side will let me get a good feel of the handling. Also the track is short enough to do quite a few laps on to do some hotlapping. On the straight, you can definitely feel the 450bhp pushing you along. Then comes the first corner, the Isuzu gives me a little understeer on the throttle, so I back off. Suddenly the front of the car turns almost on a penny, pointing me where I originally wanted to go. Bonkers car, bonkers handling, of course. Then comes the S curves. I almost don’t have to brake at all here, I can just let off the throttle and the car does all the work for me. Very relaxing and very amusing at the same time. The final corner is a bit tricky as I can’t step on the gas mid-corner without having to back off the gas to point the nose back in. Although half-throttling it seems to work best. It’s not difficult to drive at all though, which is a major plus. It feels like the car is giving me time to adjust to it and it never feels like it’s going to crash.

So yeah, this Isuzu has strange handling, but it’s not bad, it’s just strange. You have to get used to how this car handles before you can extract the best out of it. Kind of like an AYC equipped Lancer, you have to adapt before making your first judgements on it. I was consistently lapping Suzuka East, 50 seconds at a time, so it’s got good pace overall.

Isuzu4200R-002.jpg

It’s hard to give this car an overall score because I’ve never driven it with a different tune. If I compare it to the 350GT I just reviewed, I’d have to give it 8/10 because of that understeer on the throttle which kills it on high speed corners, but if I had more of a clue about how the car should handle, maybe it would be a 9. The stock gearbox is fine, in case you’re wondering. Give yourself another pat on the back though Dragonthing, you finally gave me a reason to drive this bonkers Isuzu. :D

Another review! And since my wireless is back up I can finally reply :D and it's good to know I have another follower with the 4200R...like you said it's a bit odd, maybe needs yet more tweaking, but it's loud and fun, and a rarer sight that the Jaguar XFR...or a sensible X2010 driver :sly:

Yeah, don't rush though. I won't be reviewing it for a while.

Right then! Current to-do list seems to be:
Jaguar XFR '10 refinements to current tune
RUF CTR2 Monster...the most terrifying thing to come out of Germany since forever :D fully tuned, racing softs and a whole lotta slideways...I'm not serious about this car or this tune, it just sounds and looks so damn cool sideways at 120mph

And sod serious tunes, make that CTR2 burn rubber. :D

Burn rubber? There are grooves in Tsukuba's tarmac from the last time I drove it there on comfort tyres...

Here's a peek at what's coming up later on :D

Yep, that's right, another epically cute retro car, this Be-1 has 140bhp from it's 1.0 turbo, and weighs only 606kg. Comes complete with custom gearboxes for Eiger, Grand Valley and beyond! ^__^

Yep, that's a TVR alright

So I gave the Speed 6 a go.

It's still very much a TVR, and that means...

Understeer off-throttle, oversteer on-throttle, and very quick in a straight line. Well, offline it pushes on the way in and almost refuses to tuck back in under throttle on the way out. Online this becomes somewhat less yet somewhat more of an issue; the understeer is reduced and the willingness to throttle steer comes in to play but it's a bit too easy to give it a bit too much throttle and have the rear try to send the car sideways.

I was able to clock a low 1:31 at Trial with it online, offline I've not recorded a lap time worth mentioning as I didn't quite want to get to know the car, though I'd suspect mid 1:31s to very low 1:32s to be about the "limit". I can't quite glow about the tune; it just doesn't quite suit.

Anyway, time for a bit more detail on what issues I see.

-Steering response isn't really there, or at least isn't very linear. Turn the wheel a little and it turns. Turn it more and you don't quite get the amount of turn-in you're expecting until you go further.

-Push, mainly at higher speeds. I'm thinking it's partially a problem with the car as most TVRs tend to do this, badly... But it also feels as if there may be some improvement in the suspension to be had, it seems that the outside front lets go just a bit earlier than it can get away with (and at times, seems to let go for the sake of letting go).

-Offline, there is some strange reaction to surface imperfections/dips, as if the dampers are keeping the tires from maintaining contact.

-Related to the understeer, it wears the front tires a decent bit faster than the rears

So yeah. The only other Tuscan I've driven was one of Roj's for one of the seasonals and I wanted to bail on it as quickly as I could because of most of the same problems. Mainly the push, which I will admit in that version was much more omnipresent, here it mainly shows up in the faster corners (see: 1st sector of Trial Mountain).

Going to play with it a bit myself tomorrow, probably change a few mods around to get it down to 535PP, and shoot for 1:30 dead or better. Chances are decent I will fail.

I definitely hear you on this one...I'm still playing with the settings on this car to try and iron out the problems, especially around the Nurburgring, since the British Lightweights seasonal is my testing ground. I'm still finding it difficult fo both keep this car sane and make it neater. It's kind of like my FT-86 G's tune; it will behave, but it certainly doesn't like it and will tell you so every time you change something.

I should mention that my Tuscan was almost fully stock because I wanted to RM it after the seasonals.

Quick note here: The Nurburgring masks understeer and magnifies oversteer.

So if you can get the car to be dead neutral there, it'll be just a tiny bit on the safe side everywhere else. If it understeers there, it'll understeer anywhere.

Thanks for the advice :D certainly explains why I have odd handling there with FF cars...I'll have to test it on some other tracks, since I tuned it at the 'Ring. Hopefully I'll get the beast into a proper state soon!

Hey I was wondering if you could do a Nissan Gtr drag tune

Sure, I shall give it a go, I've been playing with the premium GT-Rs a bit as drag and rally cars :D might be a bit...flamboyant, mind
