@Blair: Are you good on the formation lap procedures? Since you are locked into the pole at this point you'll be the one leading the parade. Let us know if you have any questions... good thing is you'll be mic'd up so can easily communicate with us during the parade lap.

I read the procedure, don't think it will be a problem. I'll join the room early and we can go over it again, maybe do a mock start to practice it.👍

How would an 8pm BST start work for you guys?
It would of course be open to all drivers, so maybe some NA drivers will jump in as well.
Feel free to PM your WRS rivals, as others have expressed interest as well.
Just add GTP_Hydro to your FR list, and we will see if we can pull this off 👍

We could run a 30 min. practice session at the top of the hour, with the race starting at half past the hour.
I'll be mic'd so we can have a rolling start, and the event would run exactly the same as the regular NA time race.

I'll be busy for an hour or so, but I'll keep up on my phone. 👍
If a different time can be agreed upon, just post it in the thread.
From here on, we could aim for a consistent time slot in the future.:gtpflag:

Cool,
I have send the friend request.

8PM BST is in half a hour though or was the race date not known yet?

Sounds good to me , BST = GMT+1 for a few more days

The room will open @ 8pm BST, 20 mins. from now.
We can wait for a few drivers, then start when we are ready, closer to 8:30 PM BST. 👍

Cool 👍

I'm also up for the 8pm slot 👍

Good to hear!

I've added Sjaak, and MadMax86 to my PSN list, so Nine_hundred, just add me, and you'll be good to go.

Yanaran can't make it, he's wrestling with an R10 right now.. and for a few more days

If any other drivers wish to join, just add GTP_Hydro on PSN, and join my private lobby. 👍

@ Nine_Hundred

I'm going to reset the room, and my connection to avoid any connection issues.

try again @ :15 👍

Ah ok, was wondering why I couldn't re connect.

Also, when people speak with mics, it's really quiet for me, so I can't really understand. Just letting you know, I'm not ignoring anybody on purpose :)

Room is open!
We will wait for a bit, just in case anyone wants to join.
We are looking at starting at :35.

4 drivers are in now, come on and join us!

Well done Pekka 👍

Cheers for the race all, sorry I'm so slow :nervous:

You beat me!

Great race guys!
Nice win Pekka!

I know you went with a 1 stop strategy, but it really didn't work for me.
My last 2 laps took forever  as my left front tire had no line at all, just a red rectangle :D

Looks like the Euro 3D3 races will carry on from here.
We will have to decide on a time that will accomodate the most drivers. 👍

If any drivers are interested, please post your preferred time slot, and in a few days, we will decide on a time to hold the races.
I'm guessing 8PM GMT will be OK for most drivers, but feel free to suggest a time you would prefer.

Also, if anyone happened to save the replay, let me know. I had to re-connect my internet, and in the rush, forgot to save it :dunce:

Weee a Euro group how cool, the second step to a GTP Online World Champion 👍

Now the Auzees and Azians need to take a look :)

More like GTP Online Intergalactic Champion...
I was racing aliens this afternoon :D

Could have used your hunting skillz Lefty

Oh, I'm lookin'....

I'm flabbergasted you guys managed to get the UK slot up after I went to bed and raced before I got out of it. Gratz to Marc and the competitors! Im-Pekka-ble!

I didn't figure out that 8pm BST would be sort of OK until this morning :banghead: (it won't after it becomes GMT when the daylight savings drops - yes, 5am is better than 6 :ouch:)

I might have been able to join for a while, and practice/watch/hangout before heading to work, anyhoo. Ah, well.

EDIT: Also, off topic (a while off, but better late...)

Thanks to Kev for the awesome eye candy! It caused me to go looking for some ear candy again, and I found:

This, being one of the few things that can compete with a 787 in this department.

An old favourite. And better yet, two of them in one I hadn't seen.

(kept as links to avoid clutter for the (un|dis)interested).

Stewards Last Minute Notes/Reminders for Gettin' Groceries Online:
(consider this your drivers meeting)

  • When we reset the lounge after practice stay in the lobby (do not "Enter Course") until instructed to do so. This will ensure both starting grid position and pit selection.
  • When you are given the signal to "Enter Course", you should enter course and as soon as possible choose "Drive" and proceed out of the pits.
  • Blair will officially start the race at the end of the formation lap and it's his prerogative to choose when to accelerate up to race speed. Blair can do so anytime between getting the "clear" signal and the time he hits the start finish line.
  • Other drivers must stay in line behind the driver in front of them until the start/finish line.
  • One of the two main reasons for a formation lap is to get a natural gap going into the first couple corners and thus no trickery with gaps/slingshots allowed.
  • The second purpose of the formation lap is to warm your tires. You can take the opportunity during the lap to warm your tires in any way you see fit, but be sure approaching the last couple corners that you close ranks and give the cars behind you time to do the same.
  • GT5 resets all "in event tuning" settings once the race starts, but this shouldn't be much of a problem as the formation lap should give you ample time to reapply these settings.
  • The race ends after lap 31... lap 1 doesn't officially count... so plan your pits accordingly. Anyone doing a fancy spin out crossing the finish line after lap 30 is in for a surprise as the field proceeds by.

Have fun... See you tonight!

It was a quick setup, that's for sure 👍
As of this morning, I had no idea that it would be run at all.
Great to see there is an interest, and 👍 to the guys who made the race on such short notice.

But don't feel like you have to stay away from the NA race if you can make it.
The times (and titles - UK / NA) are really there to provide options for those who would like to race, but may not be able to participate in the original timeslot.
Any driver can sign up for either race in the future, as it look like we will be running 2 races per week.
As the default host for the Euro races, I will most likely race in that slot, but good luck keeping me away from the NA race

Phew, thanks for the reminder, Tim. Pretty sure you were talking to me. :dunce::lol:

Don't worry, I'd go any option that works like a (slow) bandit. I think they'll both be too late (as in, during commute or workday), but we'll see. I can't really host/be at a precise evening slot, sadly.

Maybe I should do the G37 trick, or bag the PS3. Hrmmm....

I couldn't imagine any boss objecting to this in the office:

And no, it isn't mine :drool::drool:
But I can dream....👍

EDIT - credit -It's his

Me, too. My setup is DS3 + couch. Thanks for reminding me ;).

One day, I hope to be able to clamp a DFGT to a new music stand. Or something.

But oh, the internet connection if I took it to work....

You mean there isn't an APP for that?
Calling all programmers.... :D

Thanks , it was nice to be able to roll the starting lap and get the tyres warmed up.

Yea I have the replay in PAL format.. (sent you pm for lap times)

Sorry for messing up the first race.
I had practiced the track with N3/N1 tyres and forgot that the tyres stay as they were entering the track.

Once I took the lead I needed to try and focus to just lapping.
Kind a bad place for deciding when to pit for new tyres. :D

My settings were ABS4 brakes 5/5

I did 1'34's with almost worn out tyres , every lap getting harder I desided to pit in at the end of lap 18 .

MadMax

My lounge is now open for practice. I'm away until 7:00 however.

Last reminder to switch your tires to Sports Medium after you select your car/color... I forgot to do it again today during my first practice stint... it will become obvious pretty quickly you are on the wrong tires

I sent you FR WRP001 , I'll be in a red car.
MadMax

Sorry just saw this... have been away... But I accepted so you are in... Come on in to the lounge, people are already practicing. 👍

That was a blast, again 👍
I got spoiled, running two races in one day :D, but I got smoked in both

Thanks for coming out guys, always a good time.
Pics, and detailed results to follow..... soon :D

Here are the results of Gettin' Groceries Online:

3D3_20110928_Event3_Results-1.jpg

Congratz to Pekka on the win (as well as the 3D3-Euro win). But the honors are spread out this week as Kevin nabs the fastest lap with an incredible 1'29.860 which by the way was faster than his WRS hot lap!!

Lots of position changes as far as finish position relative to start position which is as to be expected with a reverse grid.

The top two finishing drivers (Pekka and myself) implemented a one stop strategy. It barely worked out for me as Baron was closing fast at the finish... one more corner and he would have passed me for 2nd. Lucas started on the wrong tires and may have ended up doing 4 stops? I think everyone else stopped twice.

Note: The first formation lap (2'17.166) was factored out of the timing in the table above. IMO the formation lap worked out really well and made for an interesting start. We will definitely implement it again in the future to mix things up.

EDIT: The Live stats/Leaderboard video is now available. (Condensed to 3.5 minutes):

Look for video highlights and pics tomorrow.

GUTTED, the one evening I don't check GT Planet and this happens, GRRRRR, also my evening of planned racing went to the dogs anyway because of connection issues.
Hopefully next time guys.

Great race all, and nice to see EDK and MadMax86 in there! 👍

Thanks for the great hosting, Tim. You drove really consistent & quick. 👍
The formation lap was executed perfectly.
Will get the event post updated in the AM.
