And?

Iracing has real drivers talking about realistic it is. Also Shift2 had numerous real drivers talking about how true to life it is as well.

How does that differ?
Payed publicity/sponsorship vs independant opinion.

Oh? So Milner was paid to play iRacing?

And who is this driver "Brian"? No serious, I am not familiar with him at all.
Also this was posted in '08? About GT5P? Huh? Come on man...

There are many professional race drivers on iRacing that aren't payed and aren't even used in PR for iRacing that say good things about iRacing. I've raced with Simon Pagenaud and Will Power for a few days about a year ago and they both love the sim. They have never been used in any write ups or sales for the sim (As far as i'm concerned). They just know that it's the closest thing you can get that doesn't cost you a fortune. And i'm talking about simulators that Formula 1 teams design.

edit: There are some situations where drivers aren't payed to say that.

Of course, don't let prologue being a different game with different physics to GT5, and the model of Elise being tested in the excerpt released over 8 years (the S1 no less, a model well known for it's lively antics) before the one used in the GT5 Top Gear race (S2 111), stop you from dragging it into the discussion.

I would post my very pretty picture of an extremely rare butterfly, with an excerpt of text explaining just how rare it is, but I'm afraid it may totally crush your argument about Forza being arcade and leave you wasted as a human being.

im kinda interested in such butterfly, let it fly bro!

I'm going to end this right now:

Does the 458 catch fire when driving it in either of the two games?

No? Then they both suck.

I just couldn't do that Madwi. I want so badly to show Zero the error of his ways but it's a really, really pretty picture. I just don't want it to show Zero that a car that will suffer from an enormous amount of understeer unless driven in a very specific way in real life due to the basic setup of the car, should not drive like an oversteery, loosely controlled heap of crap in a game unless you specifically drive it in such a way.

Such awesome knowledge may very well pop his mind.

Of course, we could just go back on topic and forget about posting totally useless things that have nothing to do with the discussion in the hope that going off on such a wild tangent will confuse the other party into agreeing accidentally.

So why was there new physics between Prologue and GT5 then? This RL racer said they were good? He's got RL racing experience, how could he be wrong?

Like most people here, I don't have extensive racing experience, especially in throwing stock road cars around racetracks. It seems TO ME, that a lot of people find someone who does have experience, with an opinion that matches theirs on the 'realism' of the game, which they then use as validation and backup in arguing why 'their' game is more realistic.

For just about every 'sim' that's come out in recent times I've seen at some stage an experienced or professional RL racer declare that said game was just like the real thing, yet all those games feel different and many have been shown to be quite inaccurate (whole new tyre model for iRacing, but it's the most realistic already so why?).

Of the current games, to me, (except for extra forgiving tyres and bad default setups) Shift 2 feels closest to me actually being in a car on the edge (too bad there's too much 'edge'), and I think the in-cockpit experience is brilliant. But unfortunately, this only shines in the PC version. On the PS3 version I can notice the lag and the controls aren't as precise (G27). PC ver with the community patch (over at nogripracing.com) really lifts it up a level.

Forza 3 is close, but just doesn't have the 'edginess' that Shift 2 has, and also feels a bit too forgiving over the limits for me.

GT5 to me feels 'flat.' The cars are waaay too settled. I've really never felt the cars get unsettled by the suspension, and the only way I will lose it is by misuse of the throttle, other than putting bad tyres on, in which case I'm just sliding 80% of the time (easily too). It should be the 'real steering and throttle simulator' as far as I'm concerned.

Lol, I Owed a buddy of mine a S2000 back rim for thinking I could dump the clutch pulling out the driveway.... gutter FTW

You Tube a high HP Street Supra Launching in the road for reference... All RWD cars shimmy to the side when hard launching

You realise that is extremely unrealistic yeah?
Depends on the car/tyre/road/situation... Just as it does in the game.

Off topic, people talking about Shift 2 as if it has some sort of believeable or quality simulation type physics system. It makes me want to just burst into a babbling madness. Why do people think that Shift 2 was anywhere near a sim? No more of a sim than F1 2010 was or Dirt 2 or any other mass market semi-sim simcader game. GT5 is no iRacing or Netkar, but its a lot closer to the real living world than Shift 2 ever was.

If we're comparing physics GT5 (this is a rough term, to be taken as a light gesture, I realise many of its flaws, lets generalise a little here) is the best currently on console, Fm3 was not great (physics wise). As for FM4 I have not tried it so I can't form any opinion, I might buy it for my nephew so he can bring his Xbox over and I can play it. I genuinely think I would enjoy FM4 greatly.

I just don't think I could ever buy a console to play 1 racing game, especially when that game doesnt work with my Logitech wheel.

And still not as much assisted because driving with a pad in GT5 does have a clearly disadvantage over 900º wheel people.

Does not seem the case with FM4.
Me loves this "it's not realistic for pad players to be faster than wheel players because everyone knows IRL it's the opposite" argument

how can people compare the games when they are on two different systems.

So if Forza went multi console, we couldn't compare versions because they are on different consoles?
You can compare them because they are both car games. Heck, i've seen people compare games that are not even remotely in the same genre, just arguing which one is more fun while piss drunk.

How can people compare paintings when they're on two different canvases? :P

Art critics all over the world just realized thier lives are meaningless.

In related news, truck driving school enrollment just shot up by 33%.

I don't particuly agree with Amar on a number of things.
I've said this to him with regards to Rose tinted spectacles etc.

Nothing personal Amar understands and I'm cool with him.

It is cool, no probs here mate 👍

However, this "assists" problem has finally being fully acknowledged and recognized by Turn10 in past few hours. Of course, I am also personally happy about it since that also confirms I was right about it in my initial impressions from last Sunday.

Some vocal buzz from forums, some pressure on Facebook page, I can also presume how Thomas from Fanatec let few his words to them personally.

Yoritomo79, guy who made the first video explaining the problem, has just managed to get in touch with Dan over the Facebook page and disclose the issue. Here is what he said about the replies:

Yoritomo
Wow, dan replied to my facebook comment. I don't work for turn 10 so it isn't an official statement but they're looking into the issue with 900 degree wheels.

Yoritomo
Holy crap. Dan is awesome. The issue definitely wasn't intentional. If I understand correctly they're gonna look for a fix but obviously it has to pass cert so it'll take a little bit.

So I really hope it will be solved soon enough.

Thanx to him and to all good and dedicated drivers who were vocal enough to get this issue settled for our own mutual benefit.

Also, big thanx to all who were bashing on us as usual, always welcomed.

And whilst I'm happy that they've acknowledged it, as with my own initial assessment, there is still an inherent softness, a wide progressive limit to the handling model that is present on 270 degree wheels as well..
I suspect from the way this differs from other games, I don't think fixing the steering issue on 900 degree wheels is going to make everyone happy..

But good news is good news..

On the subject of bashing, I think that (not Amar or Yoritomo) the way it was expressed, with such vitriol, it just makes people automatically defensive, yes there where people that didn't believe him, I didn't at first, but I had the foresight to actually go and try it, to find it was plain as day.. but it's water under the bridge, and since it was as plain as day in the telemetry, I did think T10 would fix it, since they purposefully went out of their way to put in an explicit 'sim' option..

Judging from the amount of crap that has been poured out on you over the past years, I think you have developed quite a thick scin by now? ;)

As for the steering 'assist': so it's just a bug, big deal.

Hey not from me mate. You share a passion that I do. Funny thing is most on here share the passion but let it run off in negative ways.

Your never personal with anyone and put forth your debate with enthusiasm and constructive points.

Haven't been on rivals for awhile. How am I doing? (Zonda). Not much between us last time I looked.

Oh and thanks to the guys for bringing the attention of assist to the appropriate people.
Even if it got a bit heated.

That is awesome! I love how I got hate mail from members for asking Thomas about it in the Sim Hardware forum. "What does this have to do with Fanatec? I am a bonehead...." lol.

I am glad we whined and complained to both Thomas and Dan. Well done gentlemen.

Buttsneeze was probably the most vocal on the subject. Dan even blocked him on Facebook lol.

I know it's not from you, hope you didn't understand that way. Always great and constructive discussions from you, keep up the good work 👍

As for Rivals, I didn't race for two days and now I am waiting for my full-copy to arrive. So we'll be seeing each other on the track very soon! :)

Look forward to it Amar.
Really like the fact you can boot up the box and just compete when ever you want against friends.

I just want an IPhone/Android app with rivals leaderboards and I'm set.
