The reviews are in.. FM4 is seemingly doing well (as a game of course)..

It's just this made me chuckle from Eurogamer..

Indeed, Forza 4 is often so eager to kick the rear end out that it can feel more akin to Project Gotham than any of its more serious-minded competition

I don't get this from the demo.. I kind of agree (not necessarily on the same level) that cars still feel like they have a little more grip then my brain thinks it should..

Good to hear I'm not a raging GT fanboy anymore... Sadly that it took word from another company for Dan to finally listen.

I guess I'm too used to dealing with Blizzard who actually listen.

Prosthetic

I don't think you play either do you?

What next, off to get difficulty balances in streetfighter. Campaign to get Rick Astley in Singstar?

I joke.

I was a hardcore GT4 player, loved it. I've never played GT5, don't know anyone with a PS3 and GT5. Buttsneeze has a 360 and Forza 3, which I've played extensively. Will do the same with Forza 4. I honestly don't feel the need to pay so much just to play it at this point and not get all the cars. I see him enough to get my fill in.

I typically just hotlap as the AI in F3 was terrible and didn't promote a challenge. I'll probably do races and test drive all the new vehicles. Can't wait to get behind the wheel of the H1. :D

I'm waiting to be blown away in the same sense I was blown away with GT4. The car list was phenomenal, even with a million repeats, there were tons of random goodies to play with. No game has offered that to me... I'm picky in that regard.

How does one find an authentic feeling? I for one haven't driven IRL all 1030+ cars in the game. Maybe like a handful. So, how am I supposed to tune to get an authentic feeling?
I tend to drive 100% stock cars during career mode. Why tune and spend money if I could run stock? I spent my money collecting them all not tuning a few dozen.
Well, you can assume that a rwd car should handle like a rwd car, etc, there is plenty of information about the cars characteristics though. People did that with gt5 cars as well, they had to put ballast and stuff, just to get the "real" feeling.

So a 911 should handle closely to a Olds 442? They are both RWD.
Please backup your info with facts. Id like to see one of these stock retunes.

THE SPEC 2 is FREE LUMINIS, there's no reason to hold that game created content since it's FREE! It's things that have been adjusted throughout this past 10 months.

THERES NO INCENTIVE TO HOLD IT BACK IF IT"S FREE. Can things get more obvious.

I would't go any further with that argument because you have no case.

PD is 'fixing' the game to how it should have been on day 1 - how the fans expected it to be, it has to give it free to keep customers its about to lose or to bring back customers it has already lost. No one would pay for 'fixes' to any game - game updates are always free - its completely differenmt to DLC.

I'm not even going to get into the content of the update.

Technically. Marketing only described it to be "New and Improved" which can mean many things and nothing at the same time. So technically it's implementing how the game is going to look like 2 months from it's 1 year anniversary. It's new because it's changed and it's improved because it has more stuff in it. Not necessarily how it was expected to be.

You also cant argue this point - Kaz knows he didn't deliver he has said so himself. Its fixes for how the game should have been to be accepted as a complete game by fans. Would you call 800 cars ported from last gen 'New and Improved'???

I have been a die hard GT fan since day one - I had Gran Turismo 1 the day it launched and continued that trend throughout the series, until Forza came along and showed us how things dont need to be one mans vision or take 5 years to create and still have content that is new and innovative.

Its not two months either your trying to make it sound better its not even one month and a half from one years release.

I guess I could see your point.

And its technically more than 2 months. It's currently October 6th. 2 months from now will be November 6th. GT5 was released on November 24th. That's 2.5 months or so.

Ehe, no a 911 should handle like a 911, thats it. I dont know how those handle, but some people certanly does..

If its released on 11th of October thats only 44 days till 24th Nov.

Two months would be 61 days (30 in Nov 31 in Oct)

Two and a half months would be 76 days

NO LUMI, not everyone in the industry, but the people that have developed strong on going franchises. Can it be more obvious.
Which would be a lot of franchises. Hey, the Sims and Call of Duty are doing pretty dang well, gotta commend the guys behind these, right?

Yeah, right, and it just coincidently is finished that close to FM4's release date

You give free stuff to the folks palying your games = folks keep playing your games = folks don't start buying stuff from the competition.

It's called 'customer retention' and is a pretty common practice for bigger companies.

and this being the FIRST TIME a GT game has ever offered DLC, then much is to be considered.
Given that it's the first full GT game on a current gen console, that's hardly suprising, nor is it saying anything about PD.

Also, caps doesn't make you right.

Wow, stupid me. I'm too tired from classes all day to even comprehend basic math :boggled:

Not sure where this fitted at first, but thought here is a good place..

We all know the Nordschliefe is 'not entirely accurate' (Being as polite as I can) in FM

But with various discussions over width have ensued, I spotted a comparison photo posted on other forums, that has the same car on the same piece of track in both games, so did a quick mask/copy/paste and looked at how they differ (just in width at this one point..)..

I've overlaid the track extent lines, and although not totally scientific, it's approximate enough..

6ezAB.jpg

I'd say GT5 seems to accomodate 3.9-4.0 Car widths

And FM4, definitely 4.5

At this one place, it's clear FM4 is somewhere between 10-15% wider.. not ideal, but certainly not the 2x that is being touted..

Of course, I am assuming that GT5 is the 'reference' to real life, I've not got any photo's I can compare with the same car etc to ensure FOV can be easily removed from the equation..

Points of assumption
- It is the approximate same location for each, I believe the FM4 one (taking FOV into account) is slightly further back from the corner, I am assuming the track width doesn't change massively between these two points...

Those are some nice photo's.

It's a trade off. GT has always catered to car purists and racing enthusiasts. It always challenged your skills on the track with various cars. That's why there is so much wheel support for the game, even having it's own official line of wheels. Forza seems to be more for gamers and gear heads. I never really felt that authentic feel with Forza. Forza 4 might change that though.

wait wait, this should be good. "Do you work for PD?".

Payed publicity/sponsorship vs independant opinion.
I love how you think anyone should take this at face value when you basically made it up on the spot.

I have to imagine the typical person would respond to stuff like basic replay controls or ability to save tunes as "things that should have been there when the game came out," and I struggle to think of a reason that they wouldn't be right.

The only GT that can be considered sim-ish and challenging is GT5, before that it is a well produced game but hardly registered for the purists, which where then on PCs.

Wheel support is an Xbox issue more than anything, and now we get two Forza official wheels.

Only now do we get full G25/G27 support with the Spec 2.0? Don't we, and where's the Fanatec love? Although to be fair, I use my Fanatec without much issue as it is now, I don't know what 'support' for the logitechs will bring ?

The options on the 360 where abysmal.. they are at least improving

1. MS Speed wheel - looks stupid, sounds crap, but everyone seems to love it as a bridge between controller and wheel
2. The Mad catz non-ffb wheel - cheap / no real FFB = not for me
3. The Thrustmaster non-ffb wheel - looks nice (Ferrari 458 replica I believe)
4. The Mad Catz FFB Wheel - based on saitek design, but expensive compared to what it offers
5. The Fanatec GT2
6. The Fanatec CSR
7. The Fanatec CSR Elite

Which is fantastic for the series. And it's going to a well deserving company who makes quality wheels and pedals. The only concern is, many people bought Driving Force GT's for GT5P and GT5 because it was a good cheap wheel for the Gran Turismo Series. The average player could get his speed freak on with a fairly cheap nice feeling wheel. Forza still fails to have that. I'm not sure how many Forza players will purchase the Fanatec set for Forza worth $460 dollars. And the thing is, there's not really a cheaper alternative that those players that don't want to spend that sort of money on a wheel. And I'm pretty sure you can't purchase the Microsoft wheel anymore. Where's that in between? The series could really benefit from having that in between model of wheel. Maybe something of consideration for Microsoft.

Dang this GT5 2.0 update is going to breath some serious life back into GT5. I havent played GT5 since about February but this update is AWESOME!! Every single car will now have an interior view which was my top complaint about GT5. It kills me that this comes out the same day as F4 otherwise I would be playing GT5 for sure. I guess KY does actually listen to the community. He didnt for GT5 but at least he did after it was released. Probably because of how bad the game got bashed.
One thing is for sure. I will be playing both games now for sure since all the cars in GT5 will have an interior view. Plus GT5 has weather and night racing. :) Which unfortunatly F4 does not have.

"GT5 Spec 2.0 & DLC Details: Standard Car Interiors, Replay Controls, New Cars, New Tracks, & More"

Kazunori Yamauchi has been sharing a boatload of new details via Twitter this morning on the previously announced Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0 Update coming later this month. Here’s an overview of what we can expect from 2.0, which will be made available to everyone for free:

•Simplified interior views added to all standard cars.
•User control of the weather change feature.
•Settings sheet which allows you to save multiple car settings.
•New Spec 2.0 opening movie.
•Improved UI response and usability.
•Replay forward/rewind.
•Mid-race save feature for endurance races.
•Expanded online lounge features (narrowing down car types, shuffle races…).
•Expanded Photo Travel features (you can now take photos of cars together with your avatar).
•Added “NASCAR Pit Scene” stage to Photo Travel.
•Added 11 new 2011 NASCAR models.
•Added the Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsport (the car in which Kazunori contested the 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours).
•Improved physics and artificial intelligence.
•Support for the Logitech G25/G27 steering wheel.
Commenting about the update, Kazunori had this to say about the company’s inspiration and motivation for the new features:

The coming Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2 update is an update that contains the feedback from the users playing GT5 online every day. We have added cars such as the newest NASCAR race cars, but many of the updates are those that improve usability and expand the field of game play. I believed from the initial release of Gran Turismo 5 that it would be the users that would make the game grow thereafter, and we added things like interior views for the standard models because there was a lot of request for it from our users. You could say that this update is the shape and form of GT5 that was created through the opinions of our fans.

Kazunori has also provided some information about DLC, which will become available sometime after Spec 2.0 is released and will include a “racing car pack”, a “course pack”, and a “racing gear pack”. Stay tuned for more details on those soon.

I remember there's a new madcatz wheel coming up, however just a bipedal 400 270 degree wheel which is rather overpriced.

and if you still have the G25/G27 pedals you can do what I do and just buy the fanatec wheel body itself, it's a viable option for those who already invested a bit in earlier wheels.
