Welcome to the Online Racing Championship Association's (ORCA) Silvia RM Spec Cup, SEASON 2!. This series will feature the Nissan Silvia Spec-R (S15) RM '02 using the "tuning prohibited" option in the online lounge. This leads to very close and evenly matched racing and allows easy access as the drivers need only worry about driving and not tuning. Brake balance can be tuned and the tires will be Sport Soft. Races will be approx. 45-60 minutes in length, pitstops won't be mandatory but should be necessary.



Races will be held on Tuesday (8:00pm EDT) and Friday (9:30pm EDT) nights and each night will have its own points championship. BrandonW77 will be the host but all practice sessions and races will be held in the ORCA_Champ lounge (PSN ID: ORCA_Champ). Drivers are free to sign up for both nights but there will be a limit of 14 drivers per night. The lounge will be limited to 15 drivers but only 14 can participate (we keep one spot open for flexibility in case we need to shuffle drivers). The listed start times are for the beginning of qualifying. The lounge will open 30-60 minutes beforehand for free practice and the race will begin immediately after qualifying.

Qualifying:
When qualifying begins the host will notify the group via the chat box. The track will then be reset to clear all previous lap times. Once the track is reset all drivers will enter the pits and STAY in their pit box until the command is given that the track is green. Qualifying sessions will last for 10 minutes and all drivers will qualify together as one group. Once a driver has entered the pits/track for qualifying they must not exit to the lounge or their times will be lost, stay on the track or in the pits.

Be courteous of your fellow drivers during qualifying, give everyone room and if you're not on a fast lap do not impede other drivers who are on a fast lap. When time has expired the host will instruct the drivers to return to the pits where they must stay until the race countdown finishes. The host will list the top 5 qualifiers via the chat box. If all drivers follow these instructions the grid will be correct.

After you register, please send a friend request on PSN to "ORCA_Champ". All drivers are welcome to open the Champ lounge during any non-race hours for free practice. To open the lounge select "ORCA_Champ" in the Community tab of GT Life, click on the coffee cup and then click "join". Because this account will rarely be online you won't see the yellow dot above the coffee cup, even if people are in there racing. To see if anybody is in the lounge you must click on the cup.

Once the lounge is open please use the following settings:

Tires: Sports Soft
Tuning: Prohibited
Penalties: Off
Damage: Light
Tire/Fuel Wear: On
Track Grip: Real
Slipstream: Weak
Aids: ABS, & Driving Line are allowed, all others banned.


*NOTE: Change all these settings before selecting the track, otherwise the timing monitor won't work properly.

Rules:
1. Drive as clean and respectful as possible. Try to avoid contact with fellow racers.
2. No hitting, ramming, corner cutting, or intentional blocking allowed.
3. Accidents do happen. If you knock someone off course allow them to regain their position.
4. If there is any doubt as to whether you will be able to cleanly pull off a pass, wait till another corner.
5. NO DIVE-BOMBING (to the inside OR outside)
6. Bump drafting is discouraged. Drivers should make the pass when possible and NOT work as a team to open a gap on the field. Make your pass and let the cards fall where they may. This ensures the drivers further back have a chance to catch up to the leaders if they should make a mistake.
7. Drivers are expected to keep at least 2 wheels on the track at all times.
8. Blocking is not permitted. You get one move to choose your line and then you must hold it. You can not swerve back to your original line.
9. Rage quitting is frowned upon
10. Drivers must stay in the pits during the race countdown
11. Please keep chat box and mic chatter to a minimum during qualifying and racing.
12. Spread out on your warmup lap during qualifying. Try to keep10-15 car lengths between
you and other drivers at all times. If you're not on a hot lap let faster drivers by.
13. There must be at least 6 people in attendance to have a points race. If there are fewer than 6 people that race will be canceled.
14. And of course please follow the GTPlanet Online Rules

Penalties
I am not here to penalize people for driving hard or passionately and I understand that while we all try our hardest to race cleanly none of us are perfect, especially in the heat of the moment. That being said, I also expect everyone to learn from their mistakes and I'll do everything I can to help drivers improve their racecraft. If any driver shows repeated instances of gross negligence or overly aggressive driving I reserve the right to impose a time penalty, disqualify them from the race or the entire series. Any contact or incident that is deemed to have been intentional will most likely result in immediate disqualification from the series and a ban from participating in any future ORCA Sanctioned Events.

Also notice in the rules that I'm going to try discouraging bump-drafting this season. This was discussed previously and I've decided the action will be better if we try to avoid excessive bump-drafting where two cars join up and simply run nose to tail and open a huge gap on the field. This is no fun for the rest of the field, and really isn't very fun for the two guys up front.

By simply pushing each other around the track there's very little chance of anything going wrong (until the last lap). By encouraging people to pass instead of push it opens the door for more action and possible mistakes which should help to keep things a little more exciting. A simple push here or there is ok, I'm just wanting to avoid having two cars push themselves so far ahead that nobody else has a chance of catching up. If those two cars are slicing and dicing every lap then the rest of the field has at least a small chance of closing the gap while the front two fight. 👍

Sorry Mikael, we did make several attempts at a Euro series but just couldn't get the turnout we need to sustain it. But never fear, I'm going to propose using Saturday as a type of Track-Day where we can re-run the races from that week just for fun (no points) or even just pick a random track, so anybody that can't make the weekly races can still participate and have fun in the Silvia RM. 👍

After testing tonight I think it's safe to say we'll be staying on the Sport Soft tires. The Race Hard tires eliminate virtually all of that beautiful oversteer and we just can't have that. :sly;
 
I thought I'd share my tire run details @GVE.
Did 36 laps, for the first few I can run close to my current best of 1:08.5. Then until ~ lap 10 I can do around 1:09. Then through lap 20 or so I'd be in mid-1:09s, after lap 20 it gradually worsened to about 2 seconds over my best by lap30 and by lap 35-26 I was 3 seconds off. I ended up with about 1/4 tires left on the LH side and about a 3rd on the RH side of the car. I started with bb around 2/8 to even out the wear.
By ~lap 25 handling gets pretty hairy and requires utmost concentration (and for me - a gradual BB adjustment forward too) and it's easy to stuff it into the sand etc.
So I'd estimate that 'no pitstop' is feasible and quite possibly the faster strategy, but 1pit is a lot safer.

Sending this from my phone. Didn't read the whole thread but count me in...#25 as per usual please.
 
I tested both types of tires at GVE and SS Motegi.I was only 1.1 sec faster at GVE and the car was pretty easy to drive on the RH's.Motegi was much more fun without all the understeer at turns 3-4.I could roll out of the gas for just a second and the car would grip allowing me to get back on the power much quicker.The sport softs have too little front end grip which takes the fun out of it.Best lap on RH was .7 sec faster.

Sport softs are fine for the road courses but I think the RH's would be a better fit on the oval.

That's not a bad idea, I could see using RH on just the oval. Anything that can help tidy up racing on an oval track is a good thing in my opinion.

Good luck on the season B, looks like a fun one. I've got softball on Tuesday nights through August so I've got to pass on this series but I'm looking forward to the next one. Have fun all :-)

Apparently I'll be watching GT Academy winner Brian Heitkotter race today, from pole no less.
