If you stay up until the event, we will try to keep you entertained so you can stay awake.:sly:

Great racing tonight, I even got a win :) By the way I tweeked my settings a bit before the races so my final car was.

Need also to mention that this was taken in the last lap.

and very close, but no touching, just what the doctor prescribed to chase the winter blues.[

I will post up the results tomorrow. Working on a couple of things tonight and just about done...

Watched some replays because I love replays :) Noticed that some cars were pretty consistently well under 1:17 and sometimes even in the mid 15s without draft :embarrassed: I guess not everyone had time to test as much as i did but when you still do those times after four races you probably should have realized to turn the power down a bit. ;)

Especially funny in the fourth extra race when i was trying to chase down iain, johnny and flex. I did a 17.0 but still lost time on all of the cars in front of me (and two of those behind :P). Most was in draft of course but not all. ^^

I usually tune to get into +0.1 of target time with a clean run, while adjusting top gear for draft + top speed only, this way when I am drafting, I would only gain at most half a second or a second. With big torque engine from muscle cars, drafting could make the car gain a lot more speed in relatively short time, I realized this a week ago, so I intentionally use 4 speed out of 5 speed box. I set 4th to be the longest which only allow the car to reach 5mph less from top speed limit at the end of straight and 5th gear barely useable ( I set it closest to 4th ). When I draft very closely, I could only gain 12mph at most.

This actually works as I can still achieve target time with CS tires, it takes more tuning time as I have to compensate with better handling around corners. Some standards would need SH tires in order to compensate, but it will allow more realistic draft speed.

Since I used the stock transmission on the Superbird it maxed out at 221 km/h so i only gained a little in the draft. But getting good times in draft is al right. It's when you get a time over a second faster than the set time without draft it gets a bit sketchy. :P

Not keeping the pace during a parity race event, for more than the unavoidable odd lap, and particularely race after race is not acceptable, if someone is not able to get ready and show up prepared, it is a lack of respect for the other or for them self, and should seriously think about going back racing AI.

I'll try to give it a go this week, I should be free Monday. Just to be clear, I can choose any car I want, tuned or untuned on CS or SH tires as long as it consistently does 1:35 around Autumn Ring Reverse, correct?

Brandon, welcome and glad to see you over here. Haven't run with you in ages...hope all is well. Just to be clear, you should probably end up on CS tires ;).

Although, most of the 'fast guy's' are usualy ending up using the less grippy coupound, it could also be that a slow guy could end up on the same compound as he might have a choosen a car with particular good handling caracteristic, like wise a fast guy might have choose a not so good handling car and decide using the better compound. So, please, no one should feel like they have a status to hold up to, the criterium of choice for the DNE is a car you feel comfortable driving at the pace and have pleasure racing with.
In any case, Brandon, welcome to DNE, and don't worry, your reputation precedes you, we know you are fast.:sly:

Welcome aboard:) We are not using 4wd's at this point, due to the huge advantage they have in a standing start on these street tires we usually use. Also, something that came up this week I had never thought of before, is not to use the rev limiter to set your top speed. Your top speed should be a natural top speed and you should set up the tranny so you never hit the rev limiter.

I'd suggest starting with one of your favourite, good handling street cars, and try to tune it to hit the target time on CS tires. All you need is the engine limiter if that's all you want to use, but for racing purposes you'll be more consistent if you put in a custom LSD as a minimum. If you are finding you can't make the target on CS tires without exceeding the top speed limit, then you should be able to easily do it with SH tires.

After a week or two, you'll find you belong on one of the two compounds and that'll be the place to start, making car selection much simpler. Or you might find that on better handling cars the lower compound works, but if you want to take out something you like but doesn't handle as well, you might need the softer tire.

NC, Track and I, drivers you are familiar with, are all usually on the harder compound, for reference purposes.

Nice to see you guys. I appreciate the compliments but I assure you I have no reputation of being fast, fairly clean maybe but not fast. If you need somebody to occupy spots in the middle or back of the grid though, I'm your guy. :sly: I enjoy CS tires though so I'll likely find something that's fun on those.

That seems backwards to me, going up a step on the tire tree makes you slower? I do, however, trust that you all have thoroughly tested this and know what you're talking about so I'll take your word for it.

I know that was directed at me, but on Saturday when I qualified my car I was running mid-1:17s consistently, never below 1:17.3XX so for you to say that I wasn't prepared is beyond me. I was but on the night I was faster than I was on Saturday, that's how much I've been practicing, top speed was low, I got beat on the straights many times, but I was cornering better and better than I was in qualifying. So it's not my car, if I lost more power I wouldn't have been able to keep up AT ALL, but I would've been over the 1:17 mark.

Forgive me for improving my skills, I thought that was actually encouraged.

Have started tuning a Volvo 240 for the next event, but since it is a track i NEVER race on my lap times will improve hugely while testing so i probably shouldn't post any specs yet. ^^

Iain, if I wanted to send you a direct message I would either send you a PM or mention your name in the post. I appologize if I made you feel uncomfortable.
I was stating the obvious, that we all, you, me and all the other, depend on everybody else respecting the pace, without the pace the DNE makes no sense. So we have to respect it.
I know you have been practicing, and that you are still relatively new to the concept, I have driven with you many times outside the normal event and enjoy it. Probably that in the next event you will be an example of the metronomic pace, and if you do, I wish no one else is going to be over the pace, so than when you get it right, you can enjoy the fruits of your efforts.
We all have to keep in mind that without the pace, there is no DNE, and that would make me very sad and angry.

Sorry for my outburst - it was an outburst. I'm just frustrated at myself for improving on that track so much more than I had anticipated and doing so much better than I had done before when I pushed to try and catch up (which I had to so many times). I guess I didn't realise how much that car tolerates, and it's a lot. So I apologise again, disqualify me if you need to, I didn't win any race anyway, but I feel guilty for not realising how much I was pushing, and getting 1:15s on a couple times.

I see you guys banned AWD and introduced top speed limits...who might've thought, lol. I'll give this another go. Not next week though.

People should be adjusting their PP down if they are running under target while running on their own or up front. So in race one or two it's probably okay to get better and gain some time, but then one needs to adjust. Maybe there needs to be something in the OP to help people do that. Like:"if you're find you're about a second under target, take roughly XX PP off."

JP has posted a rough formula for decreasing/increasing PP. I think we have figured about 1PP for each tenth.

In the lounge now, working on my pace for next Monday event at Autumn Ring Event.
Will be open to racing if others have a car ready and are interested.

If you can't stay under the top speed target on CS tires in this case, it means your cornering speeds are too low and you need more speed on the straight to compensate. Going to a softer tire, SH in this case, gives you more cornering speed, meaning you need less power and top speed to hit the target. So far, with me using the BMW as the go to Qualifying car and the harder compound, no one has had a problem meeting the target on one tire or the other. In your case, chances are if you choose any one of a couple of hundred good handling cars you can probably do it on CS, pick a crappy car and it might take SH. Even after just a couple of weeks I'd say most guys have settled into one compound or the other, it's just something you figure out in time I guess.

Mid 22s 1st sector, mid 1:01s last sector, top speed at the right dip at the end of the straight : 104 to 106 mph.
