ORS | Stewards Report | Round 1 & 2
Hi all, apologies for the delay with these findings we are finally getting on top of what needs to be done here. You can expect prompter reports from us going forward. Thank you for patience.
ROUND 1
Incident reported
Mr T leaving the Round 1 before the end of the race prior to post race scrutineering.
Assessment / Outcome
Mr. T loses points for Round 1 for non attendance.
Incident reported
Potential overly aggressive over taking maneuvers from Lost and potential unsafe rejoin from Lost causing damage to Red’s vehicle.
Assessment / Outcome
Lost was pushing Cactass very hard going for the inside pass at Dunlop Hairpin but holding his line. Both cars entered and exited side by side with neither giving up position going into Schumacher Esses. Going into Schumacher side by side was always a risky move. Therefore Cactass was smart and backed off just upon entry. Lost had a bit too much speed and turned in a fraction late (probably not knowing that Cac had pulled out) so did not have enough grip and ran wide with 4 wheels on the sand.
Meanwhile Red was following this from about 100m back. So as Red went to pass Lost going into the Schumacher Esses. Lost vehicle came back onto the track just as quick as it left and collected Red's vehicle completely damaging both of Red's front suspension.
It is our finding as Cac was not impeded by Lost's attempted maneuvers then we cannot penalize Lost as aggressive. Further, in assessing Lost's rejoin, we have determined that he intentionally returned back onto the track but was merely out of control. Red pitted immediately after incident on Lap 6 and put on another set of Hards.
Clarification/Ruling around fastest lap for Round 1 – was Oni’s lap legal?
Much discussion on this one as it was suggested that Oni’s lap was outside the white track line at Turn Four as per the image bellow.
The image captured – (
Credit Redness for the picture) at T4 c shows the moment of widest arc of Oni’s car as it swings through this corner. As we can easily see, this is a very marginal call but according to the precedent I have applied to fastest laps since doing the fastest lap assessments – Oni’s lap is still technically legal.
Specifically, since I have commenced the assessments of fastest laps for ORS, I have been applying a "Tennis like Rule" to fastest lap line calls. That is, provided the foot print of both tires does not completely go outside the outer edge of the white line, I have counted the corner is clean, just as a ball in tennis that clips the line but is predominantly lands outside is still counted as in.
Applying the above mentioned standard, in this instance and if I apply a vertical axis line in photo shop (as I often do when I'm looking at these close calls) Oni’s tires are still within the foot print of the white track line.
Admittedly T4 and again T10 on L32 of Oni’s lap are but millimeters from not technically being legal, but they are considered legal based on how I have been judging these matters previously.
As there does appear to be some misunderstanding in relation to exactly what is and what is not considered a “legal lap” – when taken to the absolute limit of what might be legal -
Oni will be updating the OP it reflect these requirements so everyone is clearly informed.
ROUND 2
Incident reported
Collision between Moon and Vend toward the end of the race.
Assessment / Outcome
Collision occurred between Moon and Vend at the turn-in of the Corkscrew on Lap 52. Vend gets a better exit to the prior corner tailing Moon for the run up the hill. Moon takes a defensive inside line in preparation for the left-handed turn-in to the Corkscrew and brakes slightly early. Vend senses opportunity and attempts on outside out brake and overtake. Due to the nature of the corner, Vend has to slow his vehicle more that Moon to make the turn. He does however have corner rights as he has fully passed Moon’s vehicle. Moon makes a second lunge at the corner and as both cars go through they are effectively side by side and Moon has slight contact with slightly altering Vend course to the outer edge of the track. Into the second part of The Corkscrew as Vend is not on the very outside of right of the track the drop in track causes his car to again have contact with Moons car resulting in Right-hand front damage and Left-hand front damage for respectively for both drivers. Vend skews off toward the inside part of the track and Moon to the outside and continue on to the finish line with Moon in 7th and Vend in 8th.
This has been assessed as a racing incident and no penalty is applied in this instance.
Incident reported
Investigate events where Vend may have been excessively cutting the track in an attempt to gain time advantage.
Assessment / Outcome
No excessive cutting was established that would have given a time advantage Vend. No penalty applies.
Incident reported
Additional set of Medium Tires used by Vend.
Assessment / Outcome
Too many sets (3 sets of Mediums total) used here. This is not complaint with the established tire allowance. As Vend has run his the third set of Mediums for three laps before changing to Softs.
As per Rule 15.2.3 - a 10 points per lap of infringement applies, and therefore 3 x 10 = 30 points deduction.
