Up to now it`s determined by the version of GT-5 P on which servers you are playing.

Playing with my PAL copy (I`m in Germany) it`s very easy to find enough online players but when I insert my JPN copy it`s way harder to find enough players.
But I could find my online scores with both versions.

That totally sucks as I got many online fellows outside Europe. 👎

Playing other online racers on the old xbox or 360 on a global scale were never a big problem as long as the host had big pipes.

Another confession about the inability of PD and Sony to offer a good online experience.

Detailed headlights are way more important than global races or other standard gameplay features. :ouch:

You get what you paid for - XBL. 👍

so many games have global servers why on heavens name and everything thats pure couldnt GT5P have them too? that really makes me sad, i wanted to play all around the world :(

I wonder if this includes private games? I could care less about the public races because they're all a waste of my time anyway. Having the rankings stay global was my biggest concern. We got to be able to make private games with whoever we want though. When I race online with my computer sims, I race with people from all over the world... I mean come on, if they're making US be the friggen server, what's the big deal?

It includes private games.

A) due to the way the game connets players throught a region specific hub.
B) I am 99% sure the list of cars in different region will be different.

I used to play quake online many moons ago...Playing with americans or japanese was awefull. The lag was terrible! Maybe if everyone had a 10 meg connection then it would be fine but many players dont (many players in the US still have dial up). Is that why PD made it regional play?

NO. See post #9 in this thread.

When setting up a public server you can impose PING restrictions. This is a way of keeping like players within tollerable speeds with others. GT5:P doesnt have public servers. Using a Player as a Host is a a cheap way out. PD dont have to pay for any server space for its game to be hosted. Thus If your a player hosting a game then the chances are you have customer bandwidth...not server bandwidth. If your using a wireless network in your house and you brother is wathing U tube and you father is sending loads of e mails your bandwidth is minimised. I really hope its better in GT5 full!

Not much of a surprise to be honest. I'm going to be more than happy if they allow us to invite friends or players on our friends list so we can race each other.

This sucks :grumpy: been planning to hook up with a few American friends for ages when the US release is out ... and now this!

PD have a nice way of sliding the boot in thats for sure :ouch: ... COD4 servers seem to accommodate all regions with relative ease so whats gives?

I know what you are getting at but that is not the main reason, but it is one of the reason. I live in NY and I have a JPN version. I've been playing online with no issues since dec 07.

If your friend have the same version as you, then yes.

So basically if we want to play against everyone ... we would need to own all region versions? that sounds like the biggest cash cow gaming con of all time haha

Oh let me see. JPN/Asia/EU/NA 4x60 = $240+tax.

Honestly, no one would and should do that, and this is why it sucks. :grumpy:

Is the region-locking based on the disc you have, the account you use, or both?

The version of your game JPN/ASIA/EU/NA, because the region of the game will be directed to the specific hub made for that specific region for matchmaking and player look up.

I'm glad I did not pre order the game then, not sure I'll buy it now. I was sooo looking forward to racing my friends across the pond. 👎👎

Perhaps the experience is seriously degraded when playing people across the world? Without knowing what data needs to be transferred for GT5:P it's hard to compare with a FPS. In an FPS, they can perform some sort of prediction with the bullets and synchronising the movement of a player is more simple than a car (I would guess)

Me too. That's why I was hoping that GT5P would be released here.

I can't fathom why they would decide to do this. Is it payback from SCEA for "having to" release it here after the demands and petitions? Are they on a power trip?

Sad thing is I'll probably get the game anyway.

You'll just have to do it in another game. I've been racing many English friends for years now on my Xbox and 360, what a shame that PD and Sony just aren't catching on. I already knew the online was rubbish for GT, but now it just adds insult to injury( online boost/handicap:crazy:). I have said it many times, I wish I could just pay Sony $4.00 a month and have a proper online service that is easy to use with all the games.:)

Too bad. I've been racing the EU from here in VT USA without connection issues, and planned on buying the NA version anyway to be compatible with friends locally. I don't like the idea of buying two versions of the full GT5 so I can play globally. I can handle it with Prologue, but it sets an ominous tone.

Mr. P, I'll be on your bumper when we get those private rooms, I think my ping to the UK is pretty good.

Have you ever played 64 player international league match with BF2? complete with air vehicles and tanks and jeeps and people shooting and boats and people dropping from helicopters?

I have and it works fine. Now don't tell me having 16 cars on a track is harder to synchronized than that.

XBL can do it, PC can do it and someone are now telling me the most advance gaming console in the world running the best console racing game in the history of console gaming from the best console racing game developer can't do it?

RP I've read the on-line response to your global question but something is wrong your assumptions. What I mean is, I have a JP version and for about 2 weeks now, if I log on with my Jpn account, GT5P has NO on-line capablity - the on-line icon is ghosted. However, if I log on with my US account, all is well AND I race against global drivers - Asia (mostly), EU, and US - just like before specII.

So, perhaps the competition will still be global but the account must be regional. I mean why allow global stats but not allow one to race directly against the stat maker?

I guess we will see tomorrow. Maybe the PSN update changes things manana?

I haven't heard our Euorpean friends complaining about not racing globally.

You know I WISH that really is the case, I truely do. IF that is the case why didn't he answer it that way?

By the way, the competition was NEVER global, not sure where you get that idea. You can only see people with the same version as you ever since Prologue was released. Like I have the JPN version of the game in NY and I can only see people with the JPN version of the game where ever they are physically.

Just Great:grumpy: I wonder who thought up this bright idea? What excuse is there now? Lets see if they really are listening now because I've suddenly beginning to think that's a load of s*** we've all been fed.

Well, they never really said online will be global. It is just that it is expected to be.
