In the spirit of Gran Turismo.com's WE LOVE CARS campaign, I propose this thread, to celebrate GT5 by posting your favorite childhood\present toy\car that sparked\rekindled or reinforced your love for cars!

Japanese WE LOVE CARS flash site.

Mercedes 300SL Roadster 1\18, to me as a kid this car was my prized possession, everybody had the EB110s and 355s, but to me this was true class.

I'm XEPEGTP and I LOVE CARS.

P.S. I also was deeply infatuated with my Silver Porsche GT2, it was the finest crafted model I had, but in the spirit of GT we'll keep her out of this.

I liked cars since such an early date I don't even remember.. tbh I liked my lego cars more than diecasts, so I can't post any exact picture of it.

Yes, I loved cars since a long long time ago. I dont remember having a favorite one tho. I had a bunch of toy cars but remember liking one that looked like a mustang and kind of like the one from that movie gone in 60 seconds.

I had a massive collection of Cars when I was a kid but these were 2 of my favourites.

Working suspension, doors that could open and a steering wheel that could move. Lovely!

or is it the original Eleanor?

A yellow '73 Mach 1 Mustang was the original. And she survived the entire shoot...No, seriously, they didn't have enough money for more than 1 car, so the Eleanor had to survive the entire shoot. And it nearly got it's nose cut off by a lamp post. And she still runs to this day. :)

and...

It actually should be a Ford GTX1, but my point comes across.

*These aren't my photos, but they are all the same color. (well, the GTX1 is orange)

It wasn't so much a specific car or toy that sparkle my love for cars since i started walking... i just think it was in the blood...

I had and still have everything from 1/45th scale models to 1/18th, to fixing my own car etc etc

I just love cars...

Post it! Just because GT won't have Porsche doesn't mean we should discriminate against one of the finest marques in the world.

PS - the whole point was "we love cars." That should include Porsche.

I have the two exact same cars !
In fact, I got the Viper after seeing the intro of Gran Turismo 1. I'm sure you all remember that same blue Viper with white stripes racing in the intro and I just fell in love with the beast. So Santa had to send it to me !

I also have a BMW Z3 M Roadster, a F40, Testarossa, 250 LM, several other Ferraris, a Corvette C5 and a yellow Diablo.

I can't remember the cars that I used to have but I can remember one of the cars I used to see in my neighborhood growing up the TR8

I can remember when I got GT1 and I saw the TVR Griffith it bought back memories of the TR8

There isn't one specific toycar I can pinpoint which contributed to my childhood obsession with cars, as far as I can remember cars have always triggered my interest, my mom told me many times that at the age of 2 I could name the brand of each car in traffic coming in the opposite direction from quite a large distance sitting on the backseat.
Although this fact was supported by witnessing uncles I still found it hard to believe myself until I recently witnessed a nephew of the same age doing exactly the same.......poor child.

I do wish I still had some of my childhood toycars, some Matchbox but mostly Majorette ( does anyone else remember that brand? ) which were both solidly build but quite detailed and accurate 1/64 scale models sold for what now must be around 1 Euro but unfortunately a younger sibling who went through a destructive/experimental "let's see what happens if I put a toycar through a bench-screw" phase and repeated this act until most of my old toycars were detroyed.......:grumpy:

Seeing those LEGO vids on the first page made me think of the time I build an entire car factory complete with conveyor belt, assembly line and a supporting dealer network ( okay, only one dealer but with an actual seperate building including a showroom ) after watching footage of a real car factory on the telly.
Which in hindsight may be a bit elaborate considering my little sister was the only consumer at the time who was forced by a quite aggressive marketing campaign to buy each product and its successors.....
At least it wasn't as bad as the fully functioning LEGO bomberplane I once build to attack her LEGO village she spend an entire afternoon building.......poor, poor child.

After half an hour of thought, I've realised what made me love cars.

fordcapri.jpg

My dad's blue 2.8i Injection (not the one pictured, obviously). When you're three, it's the coolest car in the world to you. When you then get to 20 and it's still the coolest car in the world to you, it's done something right.

I agree with the Capri, it's a lovely car. 👍

As for me, it's got to be this...

Everything about it is just perfect for me, it's mean yet elegant and best of all.... it's a Jaaaaaaggg.
