Race Modified Cappuccino Cup

ccrlogowithflag.jpg

Welcome to the Cappuccino Cup Racing Series! The goal of this series is to provide a fun and clean racing atmosphere with a low HP RM car that should result in close and exciting racing! We will be following a very similar structure to the original series but we're already discussing plans for future growth and expansion!

After the success of the first RM Cappuccino Series a new group of us has decided to pick up the torch and continue this thrilling form of racing. These awesome little cars are a blast to drive and create some great racing, for everyone from the novice to the pro. We will be racing the car in it's fully modded form with all after-market parts added, hitting approx. 137hp after engine break-in, with no tuning restrictions.

#56 MindlessRiff (MindlessRiff): Yellow / Gold

Might have to do some cosmetic testing as well as some actual driving lol ;P Looking forward to a race (and the PSN going back up)!

I'm very excited to get online and do some Cappuccino racing! Now we just wait for the PSN to be revived! As soon as it's back online I'm expecting a flurry of Capp Cars on track for some good testing and practice races, I know we're all itching to get out there!

👍

Brandon

Hi can I join
PSN topban82
yellow/? I think but I will get to you on that ok
Number #1
What time is it on at

Topban, you've been added. We will be running 2 separate groups on 2 different days, these 2 groups and the days/times will be organized based on the poll results.
So far Friday between 6-8pm EDT (GMT-4) is in the lead. :) I'll probably split the difference and go for 7pm EDT on those time slots.

Brandon

No problem. We've probably got at least a few days before the PSN is back up so no hurry. Once we're back online we'll be taking off full-speed though!

Brandon

I'm in if there ends up being a race on Tuesday (6-8PM) or Sunday (3-6PM). I'll let you know colors once I figure them out.

Brandon, perhaps try not to focus so much on "testing" & "experimenting", like has happened in previous leagues we've been in and you've started, as during that time interest is lost and leagues seem to dissolve. It's completely up to you, and only you, how complicated and time consuming this league is for you. Most of us here just want a place to gather for competitive races, and we'll follow whatever rules you choose to put in place. You're not going to be able to please everyone.

Good luck Brandon.

Great to see you Blind! I was going to send you an invite PM this afternoon. I think it's very likely we will have a race on either Tuesday or Sunday, so hopefully you can join! And everyone's free to compete on both days if their schedules permit.

I agree with your comments about over-testing. Before, I put too much on my plate but I learned a lot from it and hope to apply it here. Since we're only running 1 car, there shouldn't be much testing needed. There has been some debate about the qualifying format, to start I'm going to have a simple procedure and that's one of the things that needs just a bit of testing so everybody can see what I have in mind (short heat race to decide starting order for feature race).

The only other thing I want to test is tire wear so we can determine whether or not pitstops are needed. Unfortunately I can't test that until the PSN gets back up, once it's back I'll just open a room and do some long runs. Then I can make a decision about pitstops and we can get things started. I'd say the week/weekend after the PSN is back up would most likely be when we'd start the season.

We've been tossing this around for at least the last week or so and I've been able to gather valuable information from people who participated in the previous Capp Cup (and other leagues) so I think we've got things pretty much sorted out. I know I won't be able to please everyone all the time, but I think I've found happy compromises on a lot of things and this should be a lot of fun for everyone!

Now come on PSN!!!! :)

Brandon

Why so early? That is dinner time!

I've voted for Tuesday 6-8 but more concerned about the time vs the day. Personally, I would prefer something like 8:30-10:30pm EDT. Not too early, not too late.

Also I assume all mods are OK (eg, flywheel, transmission, suspension) even though they are not listed in your list of parts.

#44/ fatrab (PSN fatrabbitbrain)/ color tbc

Edit: And more chance that the west coast folks can participate. (Who cares about the GMT folks though :P)

Edit 2: Also must admit that I got quite excited reading through the OP :embarrassed:

Brandon, not sure if I can make the times (was viewing the thread on iphone so did not see the poll). Like fatrab, I prefer later starting times (like 9:30 pm ET or later), on Tuesdays. But no need to change the time just because of me.

Thanks for throwing my name on there! :) Also, are we throwing our color/number out there? I'd like Chrome Orange / Silver Wheels / #99. Also, to agree with a prior statement, Tuesday would work better for me, but not until later... I don't even get home until 6 Central Time through the week, and I run FIA GT1 on Sundays so That wouldn't work for me there.

Sorry guys, I'm a working man and I get up at 5am every morning so I usually try to have all my racing done by around 9pm at the latest. We can shoot for 7:30 or 8 if that gives people more time for dinner, etc. 8pm EDT is the latest I can start on a weeknight though. If someone else wants to host one of the races at a later time and send me the results I'm open to that if it accommodates more drivers. Everything would have to be run according to the rules and regulations posted here, and I most likely wouldn't be able to participate on that night.

Brandon

Some of us "older" guys are in bed by 9PM due to work hours the next day...see can't please everyone :P

Edit - You got it in before me Brandon...

I'd like to request #13, since thats whats on all my race cars. I'll post/pm my full registration once I get home and look in my garage...

Also I assume all mods are OK (eg, flywheel, transmission, suspension) even though they are not listed in your list of parts.

All mods are ok, buy everything you can after you do the Race Mod. I copied that list from the previous Capp series, I'll amend it in the OP. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. 👍

Edit - You got it in before me Brandon...

yeah thats my problem. I go to bed at about 11 though. but I'm up at 530 the next day. But I don't get home until 6 give or take with traffic..

I'm usually home around 5 and in bed by 10 or so. I usually need at least a half hour to unwind after racing, otherwise I lay in bed with brake lights and apex's running through my brain! lol :)

If there are 2 races on a weekday and a Sunday, then the weekday race could be a later race (eg 8:30 or 9pm) and the Sunday race could be an afternoon race as proposed (3-6pm) which would also allow folks on running GMT/ET/PT to participate.

Based on the number of provisional entrants so far, it looks like there should be enough people for 2 races.

If you do go for the 2 race structure, then maybe include the preferred slot as part of the registration process.

Personally, 8-8:30pm EDT is ideal for me. When I am up racing til midnight my pregnant wife usually gets a bit cranky (understandably) but 6pm is definitely too early. This is just my 2c so if the majority of people prefer the suggested timeslot then I am happy to sit out.

As long as I'm done racing by 9PM it'll work for me, doesn't necessarily have to start right at 6PM, or even 7PM for that matter. I imagine an 8PM start will yield the race done by 9PM.

@ Brandon - Regarding pitstops, personally I'd leave it up to the driver if they want fresh tires or want to stay out on worn out tires. It adds to the strategy of the race and it much less policing for you, so less time comsuming. FWIW, I imagine most will have to pit anyways with the number of laps we're doing.

Good Luck.

+1

8Pm is about 1am my time (UK time), I might be able to do that on a Friday, but I would prefer it to be about an hour earlier so I don't fall asleep mid race :) So hard getting the times right for alot of people!

I'm hoping that hosting it on 2 days will help fit more peoples schedules. We'll never be able to accommodate everyone, but having a weekday and weekend race should help a lot. I'm going to do my best to make it work. I setup the poll so it shows me who voted for what day, that should help keep things organized. Right now it looks like Tuesday and Friday are winning.

And FYI, we are most likely going with a "no mandatory pitstop" rule. It's been reported that even after 20-30 laps the tires on these cars are still in pretty good shape, so I'm anticipating a lot of no-stop strategies. We'll see who can conserve that rubber the best!

I'm updating the OP as I think of things and as you guys bring stuff to my attention, so check back to it every once in a while for the latest scoop. I'll probably add a section for "news" and "results" as things get finalized and races are completed.

Brandon

Thanks for the update. I'm guessing most of the UK/overseas crowd will gravitate towards a weekend race so the times can match up better, but right now the polls are leaning more towards Tuesday and Friday so I'm not sure what's going to work out. I'll try my best to work something out that fits the majority of people.
