Hi!

Ive been having connection problems on GT5 for a long time. Mostly 716, but only 717 error after latest update.
The error message appears when you are trying to join room (private or public) If you get it you can not join!

Some times you can join, but will get disconnected after 10-60sec.

If you don't get disconnected you can see players with Loading Stripes (most people refer to the stripes as LS, the same stripes you see when people are entering the room and loading the track)
Players with these stripes can not be seen on the track. Usually you can drive through them as if they are not there, but you will not know where they are. All the other drivers will see both of you. Its really annoying for all players!

Since Desember 2010 I have not found a solution and i have seen a lot of other people having the same problems.
Alot of them could not find the answers after much frustration and different tries to get it fixed.
Some people have gotten the problems after a certain update.

To all the people out there. You are not the only one! Here are some threads with the same type of problems.

These issues should not be in different small threads. If 50-100 people on GT-planet have issues then how many thousands of players worldwide might have given up on GT5 online because of online connection problems?

THINGS THAT MAY SOLVE CONNECTION PROBLEMS
I and several other players have tried following things. (and probably more)
Some of this seems to be the solution for certain people
-Clear cache in GT5 (and even in the web browser)
-Restart PS3
-Restart Router
-Used automatic settings on router and PS3 and different settings
-Sett router to DMZ
-Set static IP on PS3 and forwarded ports (as referred to in the manual)
(no clue how to do it? This might help http://portforward.com/english/appl...S3_Gran_Turismo_5/PS3_Gran_Turismo_5index.htm)
-Removed firewall
-Gone from wireless to wire
-Turned off all computers and other stuff
-Connected PS3 directly to router without anything else on
-Tried joining rooms with different connection qualities
-Tried avoiding rooms with mic
-Tried rooms with "fixed room ownership". This is helpful to some people!
-Tried to connect to the same room a ton of times
-Called/connected internet supplier and got the line checked
-Corrected the PS3 clock. (check if your GT5 and PS3 clock are different, if they are, that may actually cause connection problems! Thanks to belgam tips. posts 87 and 88 in this thread)

After doing all this I have:
-Played/playing other games and they worked just fine! 👍
-Gone back to playing GT5 and having online problems  :banghead:  :grumpy: 🤬
I live in a place where I can not buy a new router, and only have one ISP provider at the moment. So there is not much more I can do right now,.

Things I have noticed with LS
-I often get them on the same people
-There are some people you never get them on (try to play with them)
-If certain people host (I only know one) ,then i will never have a problem in the room.
-You will probably never figure out when you are getting LS on somebody, the stripes might appear, or even disappear.

After the latest update the game is at its worst for me, im getting 717 error on about 4 out of 5 random online servers. And when I do get to join. There is a 50/50 chance i will disconnected.
If those 50 percent goes my way. There is a new 50/50 i will have problems with LS.
This makes GT5 online pretty useless for me!

I want this problem and thread to get attention. And hopefully that it can get through to the guys at PD that the issues is ruining the online experience for a lot of the still faithful players. I don't ask for fancy racing suits, i just want the game to work and to be able to race with some of the fine players I have gotten to know without having problems all the time.

Are you experiencing online connection problems of some sort?
....then please reply to his thread and keep it active/alive. Share your experience, issues, and possible solutions....

I have tried all the above, and i'm in the same situation, this better not be because you have to have faster internet, because where i live, it is not an option.

Thanks for this thread, this problem has to be opened up to the majority of people playing GT5 and make them aware of the problems and especially PD themselves. I've opened the thread in the first link you posted there. There must be a solution to this, because these problems have been occurring since of the latest patch. I was on vacation during the patch, so I'm aware of the sudden change in gameplay. The week before I went on vacation everything was still fine and nothing noticeable occurred. However, when I got back, practically everyone I know who plays GT5 had problems online.

I have tried most of the things above, but it didn't have any positive results. I'm certain that PD will be aware of this problem eventually, but the patch has to come fast because it's ruining the game experience. It would be great if someone knew what the reason was but it's so hard to find out, because there are so many factors which could've caused the errors. In most cases I am able to find solutions through the internet and by observing the problem, but in this case I think it's really PD's fault, not our networks or anything like that. Except it got worse the more I tried. Therefore I'm still waiting for a solid answer to this problem and I hope it will be solved soon.

My network:

NAT Type 2
Bandwidth: High - Very High
Network server: Netherlands
Provider: KPN Internet

And @ Pawel:

No it isn't due to fast internet. The Netherlands is known for above average fast internet. I'm on a 25MBit down and 3Mbit up connection and I still have this problem. My friend, who lives in the same country has double this speed and he is also having problems with connecting to friends and so on. Both 717 Errors.

After being online for a while, then I begin to get disconnected. Then I shut off my ps3 and go do something else for an
hour or so then it works again.

Me and a friend have recently started getting the [717 ERROR] for no apparrent reason

We are both on Orange Broadband.

We are able to connect to rooms but not to each other :grumpy:

There might be hope for us in the next update. This is from the "tweet thread" Kaz is talking about the next update.
Kaz_Yamauchi: most probably at the end of August. First there will be fixes for bugs occurred with the previous update. Sorry if this one will turn out to be a lean update. RT @kazgt07: @Kaz_Yamauchi when will this month's update most probably come up?

I have my fingers crossed, again. But I also had them crossed for the previous update and that did not go well.. :(
Even if the problems get back to their normal state it wont be fine for me..
Hope PD does a good job this time and fixes it once and for all..

Lets hope they know about this problem at PD. In my view it looks like it all started when they started moving out of Tokio to their new HQ somewhere else in Japen.
Maybe they are experiencing technical problems with the amount of traffic passing through the servers. Who knows...

The only thing that matters now, is that the problem is going to be solved! Nothing is more frustrating then getting kicked out from all the games for no reason. So the more attention this problem gets, the more change we see it getting fixed.

Hmm I know a lot of people have been having problems. I know GT5s servers aren't completely up to speed but I think this might be a problem on your end (slow Internet) i rarely encounter any problems and I have verizon fios.

As you can already read in this thread, and others, there are people running 10, 25 and 50MBit having these problems.
My connection is only 3. Wich is rated as "HIGH" in GT5 and should be fast enough for gaming smoothly, especially when there is nothing else connected.
People don't experience lag on me.
Either it works, or it don't.

yes, my end is not perfect. The router I have is not the best. But considering all the people having problems, and only with GT5. Then something is not right.

I had a new one today (no error message though). The online lounge page loaded up, with a full list of blank lounges. It then froze up :(

I race 15 percent of the time and then stuck somewhere (garage, exiting, tuning) 85 percent of the time.

I think PD needs some sort of rival. I'd love to buy a complete game.

Tried every thing on the to do list even switching ISP and router, nothings changed for me all the problems remain, its got so bad recently when I do finally join a room if the host has changed the room criteria and my equipped car is not valid i have to leave as going to my garage to change can regularly hang the game or it just kicks me, all the evidence points at PD` s servers as i like many others have no issues with any other titles. I really hope PD can address these problems with there next update, i have been a daily player since release but im drifting away from GT recently as I just dont have the time to spend hours trying to join lobbys to get a race or two if im lucky, I have deleted all game data and did a fresh instal along with the updates and its still the same. Oddly enough I rarely get any error messages.

Seems the servers are fixed, even before the server maintenance? The errors dont appear anymore and even connecting to servers is faster! Hope this will stay stable for a while, still, if anyone is in need of this thread, please post! The more error confirms we get, the better the evaluation will be for PD, eventually all these posts will get to them, hope so.

When I start up my PS3 and then go directly to GT5 Online-Lobby I cannot see any rooms because GT5 cannot detect my NAT-Type.

So I always do an Internet connection Test on PS3s main menu first and afterwards I start GT5. When I do the connection test my Network Access Type is detected as NAT 2.

But besides that I also do get disconnected on almost every online session.

And often exactly in those races where I manage to get into the lead of a 15 cars race.... plop... youve been disconnected... nice...

After first maintenance. There has been no improvement for me. If anything, its gotten worse.

The person I never had 717 error on. Got it today. First time in history when trying to join his room! :grumpy: (and that happened the be right after first server maintenance. Coincidence??)
That same person was going to start a new room. But then he could not make a new lobby. Then I tried. And could not do it either. (got some error) 1 min later i could make one.
He was then resetting his router. Then he made the rom. Still 717 error. But, as the person posting before me..He said GT5 could not establish what type of NAT he was on. it was unknown. He then took (a new?) PS3 reset. After that everything was back to normal and I could join.
Something fishy....NEVER had had those problems before! :odd:

I never had much trouble before, but currently if I create a room or open my lounge, no one can enter. Everyone gets "request timed out" every time. And when I try to enter their rooms, I get the same thing. I don't know if this is a new problem for me because I don't open many rooms, but this is definitely a problem that needs fixing.

For me i get these problems:
1. Sometimes, pressing the "start" controller button does not pull up the menu while driving online
2. Random freezes when some things load
3. Gran Turismo logo freezes in lower right hand corner

Same here it's been happening much more often recently too. It's so frustrating too.

I had issues in the past ( Dec - March) connecting with friends. Some would be there but you couldn't see them others including myself getting kicked randomly.
We all live in a 5 -10 mile radius we have the same Internet provider with the same connection speeds.
It wouldn't be the same person every time it would all seam very random.

Now my friends I see offline don't bother with GT anymore so i tend to do an open lobby search I choose lobby's with 5 bars and 5 stars and all runs fine I haven't had such issues.

Next time you have issues connecting with friends try an open lobby host with 5 bars and stars and see if you have problems there also.

I had those incompatibility and loading stripes issues too and, as i told TS via PS3 already, the only way of fixing it was to plug my Playstation directly to the modem (static IP + port-forwarding & DMZ didn't work).

Today i finally found a solution, sadly it won't help you much TS (since you have no access to your router), but maybe others find this interesting:

I've replaced my Belkin router with a TP-Link (same specs, half the price) and everything was fixed, i got NAT2 instantly without doing a thing. No loading stripes and i can connect to every room i tried so far, even to lobbies without a single connection bar.

So in my case it was definitely a router thing, hope that helps anyone.

Cheers, Q

Ill try to join you some day Q. Thanks for sharing the info. Hopefully some lucky guys will benefit from it. :)

Yes, unfortunately im stuck with my router. If there were other options for me I would get a new router right away.
But, even if the a new router might fix the problem for some. GT5 still have some major issues because there is a lot of people with these problems.
Should all players with 717 error have to buy new router and be directly connected just so that maybe GT5 online would work?
Other games work fine without such things..

InsomniaDreamer in this thread already tried new router and even ISP. Wich solved nothing for him.

Here is another that just opened up about the 717 error. He entered the forum just to write that post.
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=220899
Ill quote some from him..
Why have they not sorted out the network problems with this new patch???

I dont need a bleeping new racing suit, I need the game to work online!

I feel like smashing up the disc and mailing the pieces direct to Japan.

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

This is the single worst online gaming expirience I have ever encountered, I have had my friend (who is a senior network installations engineer with vodaphone) try everything to get GT5 to run correctly but with no avail, and from reading various forums it seems I'm not alone by a long shot. What the hell are these people playing at???

...also, if it does let me into a game I usually get dc'd before the finish line
Tbh, im thinking about selling my ps3, as the only reason I bought it was to play this game (which it seems unable to do!)

I feel his pain! :grumpy:

I'm having connection issues also but only since patch 1.11, I've been disconnected twice within the last hour and now trying to join my lounge again I'm getting error (ID=1:536) whatever that means :/
Edit: Now I'm getting error 236

I've been getting these errors since about January of this year I think. I dont know if it was always a 717 error, but it always said "incompatibility with room owner" or words to that effect. Always when in a private lounge with 1 friend. He often gets the same error when trying to join a room I've started.

I'd hoped the latest patch might solve it, but no.

My connection is 5mb, my router is a motorola, I'm in Ireland on Imagine WiMax. PS3 is connected via wireless, signal strength on PS3 usually shows 80%+.

I think some of you need to check your NAT settings on the PS3 under system settings > network settings, make sure it's set to NAT 1 or 2. If it's 3, you may need to open some ports or place the PS3 in a DMZ.

I have, literally, only been online once and had no issues, but I throw this out as a starting point.
