People hurt in Tube 'power surge'
King's Cross
Passengers were evacuated from King's Cross station
Several people have been injured after explosions blamed on a power surge led to the whole London Underground network being closed down until further notice.

British Transport Police said some of the power surges had caused explosions.

Surges took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations.

A spokesman said there were "walking wounded" at Liverpool Street station but one person's life was reported to be "at risk".

Scotland Yard confirmed they were assisting with a "major incident" and said there were casualties.

A spokesman said officers were called out to Aldgate station at 8.50am to assist City of London and British Transport Police.

"All of the emergency services are on scene. There have been some casualties. This has been declared as a major incident," said the spokesman. "It's too early to state what has happened at this stage," he said.

The National Grid, which supplies power to the Underground, said there had been no problems with its system which could have contributed to the incidents.

'Screaming and crying'

Jacqui Head, from BBC News, who had just left King's Cross station on a Piccadilly Line train as an explosion happened, said: "Everything was normal. Suddenly there was a massive bang, the train jolted.

"There was immediately smoke everywhere and it was hot and everybody panicked. People started screaming and crying."

The train was kept in the tunnel for 20 minutes and no announcement was made to explain the delay to passengers, she added.

London Fire Brigade said four crews were at Liverpool Street and more were on their way.

Another passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.

"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."

Eyewitness Paul Woloszyn from BBC News, who was at Blackhorse Road station on the Victoria Line, said: "We were told there was a bomb at Liverpool Street station.

"I was on the Tube, and they stopped the train and told everyone to get off and evacuate the station."

He said staff had said the entire Tube network had been affected, and leaflets had been handed out with details of alternative bus routes.

Another eyewitness, Dorothy Molloy, had been on a Tube train at King's Cross and said "staff just chucked everyone out of the station".

She said staff there had not given any details, but she said two passengers she had spoken to had said they had received messages saying there had been bombs.

"People didn't really know what was going on, they were just huffing and puffing and saying how annoying it was," she said.

"People don't seem to be panicked, but there's so many police and ambulances coming into the areas. People are just concerned, and some are just annoyed at the delay."

:nervous:

Yikes.... And London just got the 2012 Olympics... Very reassuring... not...

Oh my god. Now the busses.

Sky News
BLASTS ON TUBES AND BUS
An explosion has "ripped a bus apart" just minutes after a number of blasts on London's Underground.

Scotland Yard has confirmed there has been an explosion on a bus in Tavistock Place. Union sources claim there have been reports of blasts on three different buses.

Witness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip though a bus as it approached Russell Square.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang. I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," she said.

Scotland Yard could not confirm reports of an explosion on a bus in Russell Square. A spokeswoman said police were at the scene and attempting to determine what had happened.

This looks bad... the BBC and Reuters websites have both gone down...

If these are terrorist attacks, the timing could not be more cynical...

I only hope it isn't, but the reports of the bus explosion certainly point in that direction... :guilty:

Holy crap, :nervous:

wow. some people.... :banghead:

This wasn't funny the first time either... 🤬 bloody terrorists and their ****ed up ideas...

Everyones talking about it in my work, i mean holy crap thats bad! trains and busses in one day! Coinsidence? What next? Was it terrorists? Accident?

Hunt them down, and kill them. That's the only option.

They're now reporting 90 casualties in the subway system and at least three bus bombings. Time for some payback.

This is OBVIOUSLY a terrorist attack.

Oh, and the BBC and Reuters are just down because of massive traffic. I got a "Server too busy" message on BBC, and Reuters loaded, just slow.

watching bbc news on their website - they have said they recieved a statement from al-quaeda saying that they had done it, but it isnt confirmed yet :indiff:

Explosions are reported on the Underground at Aldgate East, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street, Moor Street and Russell Square. These stations are, for the most part, unconnected directly.

Three buses have blown up, in the King's Cross/Russell Square area.

A "suspect package" is reported at Russell Square.

Metronet - who run the Metropolitan Line - say a "power surge" caused the explosion at their station (they run only ONE of the six mentioned).

Londeon Transport Police say "It's too early to say what has happened", despite reporting it as a bomb earlier.

The train drivers' union says that at least one Tube train was blown up by "an explosive device".

My money is on terrorist activity - either in relation to the Olympics (for maximum publicity), or in relation to the G8 summit in Gleneagles OR just a previously-planned attack to take advantage of the media focus and security at the G8 summit and the consequently lessened attention and security in the capital.

The casualty levels aren't on that scale. This looks more like a deliberate attempt to piss people off. An hour earlier and we'd be seeing those levels - the Tube carries 3 million passengers a day, most at 8.00-8.30 and 4.30-5.00.

How about all at once? Probably so.

I feel very sorry fo all the people in London. I have a friend living near kings cross but she doesn't have to use the tube to work so she's probably alright. Will give her a call later this evening.

This was scary when I first saw it, and still is. :nervous:

Police believe 7 explosions have happened now, 2 people are comfirmed dead.

I can't get through to any of my mates. Apparently all mobile phone networks in London have been shut down because they can be used to trigger the bombs.

They just said so on the Danish news - They said the net is maxxed out... Good luck man !...

Woah, Tony Blair looked shocked.

Is it safe for him to go to London in a few hours though?

Damn. I took the tube yesterday at 9:00-10:00.

Im not joking here...i went to a science fair yesterday and one of the Universities were studying crowd panic situations and i participated in a simulation of what would happen if there was a fire in the tube...

I cant belive it.
Go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/ for more info.

Tony Blair is leaving the G8 but the conference will still carry on without him.

And they're talking about "global warming" at G8?

They're talking about the wrong thing.

No, we should be talking about preventing these attacks and destroying those who are responsible.

How many more wake up calls do we need?
