Well one of the most intense GPs I've seen in my life has just finished and we are heading to what I think is a very important GP for the championship, for Ferrari that is.

Could Hamilton do it again? Will Ferrari fight back? will BMW chnage the course of the championship for Ferrari ?

Ferrari's fastest lap was half a second slower than McLaren and two tenths slower than the BMW at Canada.

Being a kimi fan and all, I really hope Ferrari fan fight back. Mclaren used to really annoy me because they always rob kimi's chance of winning due to poor reliability. Now it seems they are strong again. :(

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of this circuit. Infact, I'd even go as far as to say that I actively dislike it. I'm sure it's an amazing spectacle seeing all the seats filled on race day (maybe), but the infield circuit itself really doesn't do it for me. It's too tight and twisty, kinda like Monaco but without all the glamour, charm and interest. :indiff:

Anyway, I'll stop now. This should be a very interesting race, certainly the most interesting F1 has seen since it moved to Indianapolis. Ferrari have been very strong here in the past, but apparently they're currently suffering a lack of low-speed grip, which could compromise them here. I'd love to see BMW matching their pace again. McLaren, based on their performance at Canada, are the team to beat here. Ferrari's early speed seems to have tailed off just a little, while McLaren have continued to up their game.

I secured myself a spot watching it, hopefully the stupid (yet funny) German commentators on RTL will improve their knowledge this time.

As for the race, I suspect (or rather, hope) Toro Rosso match Aguri's achievement last race, perhaps even both teams at a points-scoring position? Heidfeld, I think, won't finish behind 3rd unless things go wrong again. The mix of tight Infield corners and long, fast sweepers will make it tough, I reckon - BMW will probably do well on the outside.

If they scrapped the hairpins this would be an awesome circuit. Still, the USGP is one that I really look forward too as it tends to be really entertaining. 👍

If Ferrari don’t strike back here then I don’t know what they can do. The championship is long, but it’s not that long. Especially considering McLaren are absolutely reliable this season.

Alonso has always struggled here, too. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Lewis win again.

BMW should do well, too. I’d be amazed if Kubica races, though. I was surprised to see that he had a fitness test scheduled with the FIA and would race if he passed it. Crazy stuff.

Could Red Bull do well here? They tend to be quick but unreliable. The track might just suit them.

If it were down to me, I'd reprofile the circuit. Keep turns 1-5 and make turn 6a little more challenging. Then I'd strike back up to the banked corner of the Brickyard at an odd angle and bring the cars in through a series of fast, flowing corners that gradually get tighter but reward the bravest drivers and really test their nerves before rejoining at turn 11.

But that's just me.

I'm hanging out for a Honda points finish, though I'm not holding my breath. Was the B-Spec introduced for Canada, or was Barichello's 5th placing before that final stop just down to luck and retirements? If they don't score soon, they're going to be behind Super Aguri next year on the wrong side of the 13-line. If the championship wrapped up in Canada Honda would be running numbers 20 and 21 next year while Aguri carries 16 and 17. Now that would be embarrassing.

SA are doing much better than Honda, and they will do the same in this race.

Honda will have B-spec in Europe I think

It isn't a good week for Kubica is it ... even if he races his engineer won't be their becasue ..........

New man for BMW job in US

Jun.12 (GMM) Robert Kubica - or his replacement - will probably have a different race engineer for this weekend's US grand prix.

It is reported by adrivo.com that
BMW-Sauber's top test engineer, Ossi Oikarinen, was in Montreal at the weekend -- presumably to learn the ropes.

Kubica's regular engineer, the Iranian Mehmi Ahmadi, has apparently still not been granted a visa to enter the United States for this weekend's race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"We are still waiting for the visa,"
BMW spokesman Jorg Kottmeier confirmed.

He said: "If he cannot get it, Oikarinen will do his job in Indianapolis."

It really is a sad case...and not in the boo hoo way...FFS this man is in an international sport and he hasn't got his visa? Tsk tsk

I'd expect Ferrari to suffer throughout the midfield section as it's really tight and twisty. Therefore McLaren should walk with it again, I'll swing in favour of Hamilton as Alonso has a pretty weak record here. Ferrari and BMW will duke it out for the remaining podium slot, Massa should take it just ahead of Heidfeld.

As for behind the Top 3 teams, who knows? Williams have appeared to have improved yet again, Renault seem pretty decent too, Red Bull should do well if the car stays together and SA are always in for a shout, especially with Sato, he likes this place.

Pre-Quali Prediction:

1st: Hamilton
2nd: Alonso
3rd: Massa
4th: Heidfeld
5th: Raikkonen
6th: Rosberg
7th: Fisichella
8th: Coulthard

Although it seems like the constructor's championship is slowly slipping away, there should be a lot of good battles down the field. Ferrari-BMW, Williams-Renault, Red Bull-Super Aguri-Toyota-Honda. Should make for an interesting season down the stretch. At this point the top 5 seem relatively stable barring a penalty/DNF but spots 6, 7, and 8 could go to any of 10 drivers.

My mate just showed me the weather forecast for Indianapolis this weekend... estimated 40 degrees C air temperature on Sunday  :scared:

Awesome.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly happy to see someone being denied because of their country of origin. However, at the same time I am happy to see that any and probably all Iranians have a hard time getting Visas to get in the U.S.

That said, is anyone expecting a big problem for this year's grand prix or will things run smoothly?

Answer to Kent's question: Not that I'm aware of... I'm very excited to go... but I need to get my car back! well I will get my car back on Friday afternoon... ridiculous.. Ok now the hood that I need painted comes in is damaged... oy ey vey... I'm going up there at 4:30 to see my buddy (my car)... and then to the USGP on Sat. and Sun.!! :D ---- Randy

It's the US GP... since when has it ever gone smoothly? ;)

I hope for an exciting race, but I could do without all the Safty Car slowdowns, and rules violations as seen up North.

I'll be there from Thursday till Sunday. Anyone else going up Thursday for the pit walk-about? Hopefully I'll get to see the cars up close and maybe meet some drivers.

Vettel will be racing , should be interesting to watch ...

Vettel to sub for Kubica at Indy

Robert Kubica will not take part in this weekend’s US Grand Prix and his place will be taken by BMW Sauber’s official reserve driver Sebastian Vettel.
Kubica underwent a medical examination at Indianapolis on Thursday following his massive crash in Montreal last Sunday.
Although he showed no ill effects and passed the test, the FIA’s medical delegate Gary Hartstein decided to rest him for the weekend on precautionary grounds.
It was felt that the risks of another serious accident and a second concussion in the space of a week were too high, especially given the history of high-speed impacts with the wall at Indy’s banked final corner.

Kubica miraculously escaped serious injury in his Montreal accident and was released from hospital on Monday.
He told a news conference on Thursday afternoon that he felt “100 percent okay, no headache, nothing – like brand new” but accepted the need to defer to the doctors’ judgement on whether he would be fit to race.
Vettel, who was stunningly impressive on Friday practice outings last year, has been on standby since Canada and will make his grand prix race debut on Sunday aged 20.
BMW will review the situation ahead of the French GP on July 1, but Kubica is expected to return to the cockpit provided he passes further medical checks at Magny-Cours.

Did anybody else watch the Speed TV F1 Special Event? Fantastic! Who knew these guys could be so funny?

Derek Daily is the new team member to the F1 announcer team. He didn't ask a single serious question. He made fun of Kimi's tattoo which got a round of boos, he made fun of his party habits, he made fun of Luizzi who turned it back with humor (did he ever go on a date with Kimi) and so did Scott Speed. Nice question, Daily.

I like Scott's answer to Daily's question, "Did Webber brake-check you in Canada?" He answered, "Well, I didn't run into the back of him 'cause I felt like it!"

Liuzzi: "Uncle David." (Coulthard) lol

Great stuff. 👍

I didn't watch the whole thing beginning to end, but I did enjoy it. If only they could do that every race weekend and meet with the drivers. It would sure give F1 a personality. That was one of my favorite parts with Scott Speed and Liuzzi.

i heard there was a beef between some of the drivers at BMW? I heard that vettle got in a fist fight with one of the other drivers or something. Anyone know the whole story or at least some details? lol.

I don't know about that, but all the team drivers showed up and got interviewed together... except... Kubica, duh, and Alonso and Hamilton. They didn't show up together. Can you say 'tension at McLaren?'
