You know, we should've seen this coming:

Slow cars + lack of passing zones + reverse fields + short number of laps + drivers of variable pace =

Brands Indy is going to be extremely difficult with the reverse grid btw, even less overtaking places than at Silverstone, and much narrower.

The lap time difference between first and lap car was extremely high at Silverstone, I don't think reverse grid works in that sort of situation. It's fine is everyone is within a second of each other, but when it's multiple seconds lap time difference it just becomes dangerous.

ON that note who is up for some practice tonight around 8PM EST. Have some fun 5 lap race and learn the passing zones?

I'll be doing some testing so that would be great. I'm sitting in 54.2s I want to get into the 53s.

There's plenty of time to get to the front. People starting in the back just need to have patience. Tony complained about how hard it was to get to the front on Saturday, but he was in 3rd place by lap 2. This coming weekend you guys have 21 laps to make it happen. There's at least 3 places I can think of where you can get the job done, make it happen. ;)

Now, where are all the people who voted for reverse grid before the season started? To me it seemed like the majority wanted it.

Brosif last I checked the name doesn't show in the rear view mirror, but maybe I'm wrong. I know in the preseason race I didn't know who was passing until I was already passed and lost the position.

There's a button that looks behind you. I guarantee that shows the name above the car.

When I'm lapping people I flash my lights LeMans style... don't know if anyone notices but i've never been held up. *shrug*

I may have said as much when reverse grids were brought up.
It's great if you're in GP2 and everyone is at the same skill level... It just introduces more chance for crashes, aggressive driving, and randomness in online pick-up racing.

Remember Mole races and lives around Brands so he knows all the tricks so he will be even harder to beat... :P

Note to everyone:

If you have not sent me a friend request already, please do so. Make sure you put FMSC in the request so I know what it's for. If it's missing that info, I will not accept it. Starting this weekend all race lobbies will be set to Friends Only.

Pretty good counterpoint.
If people aren't obsessed with winning in the first 5 laps, I don't think reverse grid is a problem.

You could even argue that reverse grid is meaningless if the field swaps positions too quickly.

Only takes one person to kill everyone else's patience. If you don't go for a gap and the guy behind you jumps you and the car you were setting up are you going to go easy next time? No you're going to stuff your nose right in there to keep the car behind you at bay. And since the grids are reversed everyone has a car filling their mirror looking for any way by. Then mistakes happen, cars get damaged and tempers go up. Saturday was exactly what I was expecting (lag-chunk of supreme insanity excluded).

This is of course exacerbated even farther by PD taking away our map zoom so everyone has a much more difficult time with situation awareness.

The only time I've ever been involved in reverse grid races that worked out even remotely sanely is when we were flipping the top half of the grid and leaving the back half alone. Also made the battle for the middle spots pretty exciting since you could win pole for the second heat (and actually hold on to it for a while since mid-pack drivers are usually only a few tenths off the front running pace not a second or more).

But it is worth 5 pages of thread post race.;)

Cars used to ghost when lapped,I take it that PD changed that?

If anyone is practicing tonight... please post the room number here, as i wouldn't mind joining, as i need a lot of practice since I'm racing with the 89 unexpectedly -.-

This happened in one of the races Saturday. I got into the back of doodle a bit (braked too late while behind him) and he started to spin out. I backed off enough to watch him gather it up and then kept going. He never said anything about it, so hopefully he forgives me. :scared:

At least we don't have to fix our cars or mend our bodies. Then again, not having those real life consequences allows us to take those bigger risks.

One benefit of reverse fields on my end is learning how to handle driving around traffic without it. Even so, not having that option in the game is inexcusable.

That's one thing PD loves to do, ever since GT1. Give us new things in each release, and take some things away. I'm still waiting for them to put the multi-car, wide angle replay view back in from GT3.

My WIP setup for the 89:

85 / 85 : Ride height
4.00/3.90 : Springs
2 / 2 : Dampers
1 / 1 : Dampers
3 / 3 : ARB
0 / 0 : Camber
-0.25/0.00 : toe

5 / 4 : Brakes

5 / 25 / 5 : Diff

16% : Ballast

With the differential / toe improved I got a down to a 54.100. Still working on 53s.

I will give your settings a try. Managed to get in mid 55's, considering I'm usually well back of the leader's times, I was quite happy with my setup. I feel a softer spring is needed for me as there are so many rumble curbs at Brands.

My biggest challenge is Turn 1, always turning in a bit too late.

If I may ask the rest, are you guys braking any while entering Turn 1? Or just letting off the gas and downshifting?

I'm taking turn one Porsche 911 style and fading onto the brakes and staying on the throttle (lightly) at the same time. This to to keep oversteer in check.

Then feed it into turn 1 until I'm lined up for the exit, then I try and keep full throttle until exit. You really need to hit the apex, take a bit of curb.

I hereby declare the next race be called the "Flyin' Pinata Super Bowl."

The way he was ramming the other car, I can't say I would've pulled alongside him.
