On the up side, I feel like I now know Spa a lot better than I did. :sly:
On the down side, poor Starvsnr was stuck as my unwitting teacher.

I learned the nurburgring playing my (then boyfriend's) husband's gt4... At first I had tried you know, like sports cars or touring cars or whatever. And realized that was silly. Too many turns going too fast at my age, with very little experience w/ racing games before.
So then I tuned up a Citroen 2CV & started doing "family cups" (where you could adjust the AI competition level)... I think I got my time down to under 11 minutes finally. :D
It's not necessarily easier in a low power car, because then you have momentum to worry about. It does kind of force you to learn the lines more, plus the scenery goes by slower, allowing it to soak into memory better (for those of us who have reached a certain age lol).
I won't ever beat Nicktune I imagine. Or Apmaddock for that matter. lol But I'm a lot better than I used to be. ha ha

For anyone wanting to try that route, I recommend our German Superminis @ the Nurb event. :sly:
We're in need of more drivers for Friday evening 8:30pm US EST! And the boon is that the format is rigged so that the fast drivers get a challenge, and the inexperienced drivers get a shot at some more action. :)
(Pardon the plug.;))

Results for 3/4/13 1600 Performance Cap Racing

I have not has a chance to watch the races so I can not provide much commentary so I will get straight to it.

Well it looks like Nick was back to his wining ways. Congratulations:cheers: You can choose to adjust the PP for the next Monday event. You can keep it the same or adjust it +/- 25 pts.

Looks like the Nurb might have been Joe's undoing but a well earned 2nd place entitles you to pick the qualifying track.

Goat feel free to let me know if you need any Matte or Chrome paint chips from the list.

1 - Nic-KL - 55
2 - JoeW/Ice-Warden - 49
3 - ChuthuluGoat - 48
4 - Diabolicwyvern - 47
5 - Starvsnr - 46
6 - Tezgm99 - 45
7 - Apmaddock - 44
8 - Racefan78 - 44
9 - Watermelonpunch - 38
10 - Schmiggz - 32*
11 - Rallywagon/Rallywgn2 - 25*

Thanks for everyone that showed up and raced especially the new guys/gals. I hope you enjoyed it.

*Did not race all events or suffered discos.

I would like to try one more time to compile a list of people who plan on being regular attendees for the Monday night Performance Cap races. This is not a commitment but simply means I can start filling the roster quickly which seems to help pull more people in to the races. So far I have the following regulars:

JoeW/ice-Warden
Rallywagon/Rallywgn2
Racefan78
Kendawg

If I can add you to the list just post that you plan on attending the Monday event as a regular.

Note: I didn't miss any races nor suffer any discos... or any polkas for that matter. ;)
I just placed very poorly in 2 of 4 races. :ouch:
(Note to self: Acquire more sensibly performing cars in the 400pp range. lol)

Maybe, and this is just a suggestion... (pardon me, I used to work in advertising...)
Maybe have a "membership list" in the OP that includes people who "race when they can"...
I know one thing that attracts me personally to a racing event/league/club, is seeing other people I've raced with before, already involved in something.
(In this case I'd seen Tez was heavily involved posting in this thread a lot (from the clubs & leagues list page) and looked figuring there was something interesting going on here - and lo & behold there is! :D)
At any rate, it wouldn't require a commitment to being "a regular", but just a signal that there are many people who want to participate, and likely will when they can. :)

And more for the list... (revealing my other car type fascination - Saloon/luxury/pretentious lol)

Known PP List

All cars taken to GTAuto for an oil change / engine check 👍
If I don't specify UCD/OCD - it means I don't know (or it doesn't matter)

(I think this car doesn't need to be broken in. ??)

Lambo Muira Bertone - 117miles - 517pp

Good Idea. And thanks for the list as that puts up at 524 cars (59 of which need to be broken in). We are nearing the half way point:)

edit - And do you know what position you ended up at Cote? It is listed as 17 but I assume you actually finished the race.

Besides picking cars to suit a certain PP regulation...another reason I really like this series is the fact that I feel comfortable racing with everyone. I feel like I can get on the mic and say whatever I want....just generally lower pressure to perform. It's hard to explain...but on Sunday nights I feel like everything is so formal and regulated that I don't feel "comfortable" racing very often. I can't BS on the mic without feeling like someone is going to file a complaint about it etc etc.

IE...I just generally like this alot.

I am glad and I must say I too like the casual nature. Sure we all want to win but I think being in different cars removes the pressure while bringing in other challenges. I still remember Goat filling my S3's Mirrors with his Semi-Truck at Laguna Saturday. Or trying to fend of Star who was driving his MR2 brilliantly while I floundered in my faster FTO at Cote.

I still think there are a few things to be tweaked but so far it has vastly exceded my expectations. Speaking of which I have tweaked the laps for the tracks so most should now last about 20 minutes including the 90 second extra time.

I am going to try to get time to upload Sundays and Mondays replays to sugarsync this afternoon.

I feel the same way. It's more about fun than performance for me. Maybe because it's before and after Sunday so I try not to get to serious with it. It's nice to be able to decide how challenging you want you night to be with car selection. Also we have a great group of fun and funny people, that I like to chat up, and we all have exemplary racecraft! I love you guys!

My line up last night was pretty diverse also with 4 different manufactures, 3 different countries, 3 different decades, and a weight spread from 980 kg to 2300 kg:idea:How many bonus points do I get for that?:sly:

Thanks Goat. I might she if we can get a dedicated Performance Cap folder

1pt for four different makes. If the countries are on three different Continents you would get 1 pt. If you had stretched to 4 decades that would be 2pts. I was thinking about doing one with weight but thinking really light like under 600kg

I'm going to look into getting extra points for my line up since I need all the points I can get. How many for an all American line up?

And I just want to confirm, Saturday is cancelled so the next race is Monday 3/11?

f I can add you to the list just post that you plan on attending the Monday event as a regular.

Consider myself a regular.

I believe Nic does so well because of his decision making matching cars with tracks. I choose a silly 4wd for the twisting Twin Motegi, albeit much more powerful than Nic's Renault, but was thrashed. I'd of had a better chance had I been smart enough to adjust for the course. I've been choosing cars at random aside from the first race...a technique I believe has some faults!

Yes I am afraid this Saturday is cancelled. I should have an update on Saturdays soon:). So yea Monday is next. We just need Nick to tell us the PP level.

Yea no doubt about it His driving combined with how well he is choosing the right car for the right track is just about perfect. He will be a hard man to beat.

What type of thought processes do you guys use to determine the right car to use?
I personally try to use the slower cars on short tracks and save the longer geared, more powerful cars for the longer tracks.
I also try to consider drive train but don't know really to apply except save the 4WD for the track with the most sand.

Awesome 1st round racefan! 👍 The replay looks great.

👍
You can have a powerful/not so good handling car to perform well, like the kpgc10 on spa... there is very few tight turns/accel from low speed (that's where the car stinks).
We just need Nick to tell us the PP level.
1625.

Make sure to look at the spreadsheet. There is a tab "Lap Times". It has the fastest lap time for each car/tire combination. Take Tsukuba. To win that you need to be running times in the low 1:07. But you also want to do it with a similar PP of 408-409. Sure you can bring a 420-430 car there and win but you are giving up PP for the other races. In practice I ran a low 1:07:3 in the FTO I ran Saturday without draft and the PP for that car is 411 so that would have given me a good chance I think. If you want o beat Nic you need to be running 1:08's around his 390 PP. That assumes he will bring the same car.

For Daytona HP is more important than PP in my opinion. Of course gearing is important.

I think your Dodge Ram is a brillant pick if you can keep from making mistakes at laguna. It has so much power it can pass the lower HP cars and then make it hard for them to pass even though they can set faster lap times. But ultimately it is 2 seconds off the pace of the S3 and 205 T16 on that track and they both have a slightly lower PP.

Just my $.02

My theory:
  1. Something I can drive. Pointing you know, in the correct direction most of the time. (ie: Not the 1980 Renault lol)
  2. Something with nice torque to get out of the corners. Getting out of the corners is good when you need to guard a leading line on the inside line against a better car behind.
  3. Something with good HP for the PP. Because 63% of the tracks for this series have significant inclines, and the other 3 tracks that are flat, have long straights anyway.
Disclaimer: Just because I have this theory doesn't mean I practiced it well yesterday, have such cars in my garage, or would drive well given the best car choices. ;)

save the 4WD for the track with the most sand.
 I also approve of that strategy.
No squirrel cars likely to slide off on tracks with lots of sand, or get out metal detector & beach ball.

No lie, that beast is intimidating goat. That thing becomes your rear view mirror.

I love it! The funniest thing is when the dome concept was 20 feet near me, I couldn't even see it I sit so high!

The new PP details are in the second post. Thanks for making the picks. PP is 1625 and we will be qualifying at Road Couse Daytona.
