Wow! That brings back memories!
When I seen The Wall, the wall was more tall than wide.
Awesome show!

I'm glad to hear that everything went well last night, and I can't wait to hear what you guys have come up with. I'm really excited that all of you figured something out so that we can bring the pace car back. Thanks again guys for the hard work in helping get this league going. It's a lot for one person to do, and we wouldn't be where we are today without your help. Thanks!!:)

Actually, it wouldn't take very long for us to bring you (or anyone else who missed last night) up to speed. For example, Vail joined at the very end of last night's practice session and it only took him one quick race to understand the fundamentals of this new pace/safety car idea.

If you ask me, I think we should implement this new idea right away rather than wait until next season. Since you originally planned this series to have a pace car anyways, I don't think it's illogical to bring it back right away now that we've figured out a better way to implement it.

Furthermore, the fact that the Elise 111R RM is such a great handling car would help limit the "growing pains" of our new pace/safety car feature. I think it'd be better for everyone to experience this new system in real race situation with this car instead of a less predictable and sure-footed car since that could cause too many incidents while we get accustomed to racing with heavy damage.

Does anybody know how many laps will we race on the mogeti road course
I heard it was 35

I think it will be based on the lap times, tcrash made 2:01.640 in Motegi (I did 2:01.734 :ouch: ), and as I remember in the grand valley race where I was the Pace Car, the pole time was in the mid 1:50's, and observing that Motegi and Grand Valley have almost the same lenght and pace (Short staights and wide turns at grand valley and long straights and narrow turns at motegi, both allowing high speed racing), i think the number of laps for the event should e between 35 and 50 laps, I prefer 45 because we will lose some laps on the cautions, and to make a different strategy for long time racing (remember, it's an endurance series) and actually refuelling (Because I did not refuel at Trial Mountain) and it will be more interesting to make a tire and a fuel strategy, for example "at lap x, I will equip Racing Medium tires and I will refuel 8 liters of fuel, and that will be the last time I will refuel"

TL;DR:

45 laps at motegi are perfect to me, longer races, I would like to see fuel strategy

BTW, my new colors are French Blue and Artic Silver

Hey guys, any thoughts on the new and improved safety car making a return this Saturday night? There seemed to be a lot of excitement about that idea last Saturday night, but nobody's really said anything about it here.

I missed the test, how did y'all make it work?

Basically, whoever is in the lead becomes the safety car, everyone catches up. When the pack gets to the pits, anyone can stop at that time. After everyone has caught back up to the pack after the pitstops the race leader announces a restart within 10 seconds and calls Go.

To invoke the safety car, when you get damage caused by an incident (more than one car involved) if you have a mic, say Safety Car, if not type 'G' as a message (it''s the selected letter when a message is created).

Make sense?

while it would be a good idea to get used it this asap, just make sure you can you are truely ready, maybe one or two more practices... or something just so everyone had a little "hand-on" action before we thrown it into an event.

lookin forward to this weekend... with or without pacecar. thanks for the hard work guys n gals.

Can the damaged car/cars go into the pits before catching up to the field and then start at the tail end of the pack?

Based on my understanding, once the caution comes out, pit row would be closed until all cars are caught up to the pack. This would eliminate the possibility of a damaged car gaining an advantage over cars that were not damaged.

Anyone from Team Green around for practice on HS Ring?

Hi Joe, I think you're looking for this. ;) Regardless, there's no need for Team Green to practice since Team Red will be victorious again this week just as we were last week! :P

But since we have you here in the S.P.E.C. thread, do you have any upcoming Saturday nights free? :D

Would love to race Saturday nights but it has been difficult getting rid of the wife and kids. I had to jump through flaming hoops to race Sunday night.

Any advantage would be nullified by having to start in the back on the restart. I only mention it becasue it can be rather difficult to limp a car all the way around a track with heavy damage especially when trying to catch up to the field.

Example would be Suzuka. If there is an accident in the casio triangle 35 seconds behind the leader, those damaged cars would have to drive past the entry to pit road and drive all the way around the track while trying to catch up to the leader (who would be slowing down). I've seen it happen before where a damaged car just trying to limp around will wreck again and take up more time than is necessary. By allowing damaged cars to pit the first time they reach the pit entry, it saves all of these issues. By making them start at the back, it nullifies any advantage they could gain by pitting early.

So is the point of the safety car to keep the whole field together all the time or to make the racing more realistic? If it's the latter, wouldn't it make sense to allow the drivers with damage to choose if they want to take a pit when pit lane is closed and then take a drive-through penalty? I don't think the yellow flag situations should reward anyone who has had an incident, but you would still have the opportunity to rejoin the main pack if there's another yellow.

I'm interested, but Saturday nights can be tough for me. If you're looking for strictly committed racers, then I'll have to pass. Otherwise, I'm in.

And when I say "tough for me", I really mean "sometimes my wife wants to watch a movie on Saturday nights, and I let her". :)

I have a similar situation; but I will try and make the remaining races if you will have me on your grid :)

I especially like the real life circuits you will be racing 👍 - I use cockpit view and rarely race on the 'made up' circuits-so I do not know them well enough :dopey:

Glad you're going to give this club a try! I have no doubt that you'll enjoy the racing here. :dopey:

cnbeal317 will be along shortly to give you the office S.P.E.C welcome and send you an FR from the SPEC_Racing account. See you on Saturday night for the Motegi race! :)

i think anyone who brings out a cuation, (sayin this as a rookie *knock on wood), there should be a nasty penalty involved.. if it's realism, well.. cars don't shed parts, or breakdown.. they can/should pit asap, to fix the car, be required to start behind everyone else, and maybe even suffer a 1 lap penalty ( for repair time in the garage) just depends how realisic you want to attempt to make it. In real life if a car doesn't shed parts and has power.. they drive to the pits/garage or suffer a heafty fine

it's up to officials if they want to play like nascar and give a free lap back to lappers upon cuations (gentlemen's agreement), but that would be very difficult to keep track of even with the best intentions.. maybe too advanced for now.

to reset the field, messup everyones pit strategy, becuase of a lapse in focus, mis-calculation, or a malicious intent. Parties invloved shouldn't resart "with" the field on fresh tires and (basically) a brand new racecar. IRL, i wouldn't be able to restart with a car with no residual effects of breaking down the turn one/lap one wall... I'ld be lucky to finish, let alone have a hope alive of winning.

i might sound negative, but i like the idea of a pace car, it's just with the "invincible cars" it will be hard not giving a simple restart/re-do to those to bring one out. and I ofcourse missed the practice you may have very well covered these options

Yes! All cars must be behind lead car before anyone goes into the pits. If you have damage , I'm sure your going to pit. But as for others , you can pit but you will lose your spot if a car behind you does not pit.

The way we worked it out Saturday is a very simple and fair way to use a so-called 'Pace Car'.

I would like to know if anyone would object to give all the racers a 'Mulligan Caution'? A caution for a accident that only involves that 1 driver. You can use this Mulligan Caution anytime during the night but only one time.

Just a thought to make it interesting.

A problem we have with our new idea is that we're not ganna be able implement this on the nurburgring 24h weather/time change since its such a big track and we only have only 10 lap. now i think we should have damage but on light.having damage turned off can be unfair because if someone drives out of the track and hits a barrier and bounces back onto the track its ganna be unfair to the person who took their time braking and cornering that turn

Great to see another racer joining in! I'll be adding you to the list tonight and sending out a FR to you and a few others that have joined as well. Thanks!

As for the pace car, I am ready to reintroduce it this week after hearing how well it went at the practice session. I would love to have this now that we've got a better structured way of doing it. If someone would like to help me out, I would really appreciate if someone could write up the new pace car rules and I'll add them to the first post. I think that would be better than telling me the rules and trying to figure out how to write it down, especially since I've yet to see it in action. As amazingwarrior pointed out, our final race at the Nurburgring would be way to much to implement the pace car, and for that night only we would be running with damage set to light.

Also in regards to penalties which if I remember correctly a few of us had talked about. I would like to know if everyone would be interested in turning penalties off when we're running the pace car, that way the lapped cars don't ghost, and you have to take extra caution overtaking, as you can't got through them since they're not ghosted. If we move to running multiple classes at the conclusion of the Lotus challenge, then I would be highly supportive of removing penalties.

As for the prize structure, I think we'll go with what had been discussed earlier after one of our races. With a 4 or 5 week period of races with each car or cars, then I think we'll go with this format for winners of the previous season.

1 Car:
1st - picks car
2nd - track
3rd - track
4th - track
5th - track
6th - track(if we go with five week seasons)

2 Cars:
1st - car
2nd - car
3rd - track
4th - track
5th - track
6th - track
7th - track(if we go with five week seasons)

Now to prevent any issues with someone intentionally picking a track that would be problematic for the car(s), the prize selection will start with tracks in order of overall place, then once all the tracks we're decided the car(s) would be selected with the tracks in mind. I would then take the responsibility of shuffling the tracks into the order of how we would race them.

Let me know how you guys feel on this, and I'll try and keep up with the ideas for the continued discussion of the pace car.

I gatta questions how many weeks is between each season

Just had an:idea:
I like penalties off, I hate shortcutters. So what if we get a few extra cars on track and, for the shorter tracks, we place them in a way to prevent shortcutting on trouble turns. Until some one hits it:scared: and it rolls onto the track.

thoughts?

I agree that there could be situations where forcing a car to limp around a long track would be wasteful. As long as we're all on the same page that the the cars who need to pit for damage should start at the back of the pack at the restart, I think we'll be fine. 👍

I think they should start at more than the back of the pack; they should have to pit under green flag conditions.

Hopefully we can find a way to make it keep the field together and make it more realistic! :)

I think I may have an idea that addresses the issue of when a damaged car can pit while also addressing Bowler's previous point about how long it would take a damaged car to limp around the whole track.

The idea is that we simply not force ourselves to wait for the damaged car to catch up before restarting the race. In other words, once a damaged car calls for a caution period, it is their responsibility to try to catch up to the pack by the time the race is restarted, which will happen sometime after the pack passed pit lane one time. If that means damaged cars need to pit while pit lane is closed (because their damage is so severe) and thus be forced to a subsequent drive-through penalty - so be it!

However, if the damaged cars are able to catch up to the pack (which is traveling at 60 mph) and then pit with them, then good for them because they'll be able to restart the race with the pack (because they won't have to have to take a drive-through penalty).

But again, if a car is so heavily damaged that they have to pit when pit lane is close, they of course will dropped from the pack when they take their drive-through penalty. At that point, they would simply have to hope that there's another caution period in which they'll have an opportunity to catch back up to the pack.

I think they should start at more than the back of the pack; they should have to pit under green flag conditions.

This will certainly be the case if they aren't able to catch back up to the pack before the green flag drops. I think the idea mentioned above will keep the action going, keep most of the cars together in close racing situations, and keep it realistic in the fact that nobody is waiting for the damaged cars before restarting the race (let's just pretend that we're waiting for debris from the wreck to be cleared off the track )
