From my standpoint, examples of good behavior should be made public. Examples of less than good behavior should be kept private. I've seen more than one case where parents were open and forthright about their "escapades" as children, teenagers, young adults and I've yet to see their children actually go "oh look, mom, or dad, did this when they were young and it didn't turn out well. I'm not going to do that." It's been my experience that those learning, when they discover others have done a thing, regardless of historic outcome, get arrogant and think they can do it better.

The capability exists for everyone of us to look at the events they have been penalized for. It is also stated, in every Steward Summary that if you have questions about a penalty you were assessed, to ask your Division Steward about it and he/she will explain the findings. If you don't save the replays, or ask, when you're uncertain about a penalty, I don't see how league management can be of further assistance.

I just don't think publicly displaying examples of less than desirable racecraft will serve the best interests of the group as whole. The more we shine light on the good behavior however...

There's more I could say on this subject but I'll stop here for now.

I agree with showing the positive side of things 👍

For the examples I cited, I was thinking about setting up the scenarios to show how to deal with those situations.

eg. 1. Concertina effect braking. When in a line of cars, you must brake earlier than your normal point.

1. Establish what the normal (no one in front of you) brake point is.
2. Show when the first person in line brakes at that point, your brake point will need to be adjusted to stay behind the driver in front. Instead of ghosting through them or taking them out.

If we take that perspective with the examples, I think it will show S.N.A.I.L.s what they can do to drive clean and fair.

To begin, none of here are children taking examples and lessons from their parents. As such, some SNAILS are young, but by no means do I believe any of us a child deserving lecture from a parent. Further, this isn't an object lesson in life skills either. We are talking about rewarding and punishing good and bad race craft, not the moral implications of sneaking out after midnight or setting the neighbors dog on fire. I imagine at this stage in life, we all have already set our moral standards and ethical ideologies.

Now, I would fathom you and I have had exceptionally different upbringing and life experiences, but I can tell you I have seen the exact opposite of your statement here " It's been my experience that those learning, when they discover others have done a thing, regardless of historic outcome, get arrogant and think they can do it better. "

It's called learning from others mistakes, and to be layman about it, "Nobody wants to be that guy." I can tell you that being pulled out of a group and corrected on spot is a great motivator to not be ate up. As much so as positively reenforcing good behavior. Am I saying this should be the standard? Nope. sure not. As much as it may help, some people always get butt hurt as well. This world seems to cater the thin skin. I would rather not jeopardize attendance to make a point. Which is why in my previous post I offer a anonymous solution, and also am working doing something that is actually constructive. Hosting a racecraft training session.

BTW, no dogs were injured during the making of this post.

Thanks Garagefather :) This needs to happen 👍

Here's a start to situations we should try to cover, feel free to add to it.

1. Concertina effect braking. When in a line of cars, you must brake earlier than your normal point.
2. Draft effect braking. When following a car down a straight, you will be traveling faster than normal, you must brake earlier than your normal point.
3. What do I do when I missed my brake point?
4. I got inside on the guy in front of me in a corner. How do I make sure we don't wreck on corner exit?
5. Going into a braking zone, how do I make sure the guy in front of me, knows I'm there?
6. What's the best way to re-enter the track after having an off?
7. Conceding an ill-gotten position.
8.

#6 needs special attention. This is probably the single most penalized thing in SNAIL and probably the most under reported issue as well.

If you leave the racing surface for any reason, you have to wait until you can re-enter the track without affecting any other driver in any way. If this means you have to let the entire field go by you, so be it. You can not pull back on the track and force anyone else to take evasive action to miss you even if you are ghosted. You must wait until the track is clear and then you must stay out of the racing line until you are back at full speed.

Similarly, this does not mean 'parking' in the center of the track, giving back a position, or disrupting the racing line when you are in recovery mode, whether it is your own recovery, or another driver's recovery from an incident.

I did not mean to imply that any here were children, only that we are all learning.

I've heard arguments regarding historical precedence from both sides and so far I've found the "history repeats itself" camp to be ahead in points.

I'm less concerned with someone being "butt hurt" than I am with "airing dirty laundry" in public.

From a purely personal perspective, I don't want my mistakes made public. I make them, I'll fix them and/or accept the consequences. If my mistakes affect others, that's between them and me and no business of anybody else.

Training sessions are great! They give a foundation to take corrective action when mistakes are made. Mistakes are another way to say experience. You can't gain the latter without doing the former.

If negative examples of racecraft become something the SNAIL community decides to display, I'll live with it, so long as I participate. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

Here's what I'm seeing for laps:

Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74 (516 PP) (Sports Soft tires) @Eiger Nordwand Short Track (10 laps)

Ferrari SP1 '08 (Sports Soft tires) @Road Course - Indy (6 laps) This was close to 7, but with a standing start, 6 should be good. Otherwise we're close to 12 minute races and pushing the nights time barrier.

Depending on how many people show up, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we may have to do a 2 group qualifying run for Eiger with the Lambos since it will get too cluttered otherwise. So we're probably gonna be pushing the night's time barrier anyway :nervous:

Very true.

Eiger at 5 second gaps will have 11 people, tightly bunched on track.

This is fun if you are a South Park fan.

Hey guys, I'm interested in joining. Am I too late for tonight? Thanks

Hey calden592,

Should be able to get you in tonight. Skills will be along shortly to post the official welcome message.

In the mean time if you can follow the Time Trial instructions here, we'll get you in a division and racing 👍

Cheers,

kcheeb

I decided to not participate on Sundays anymore, I can't break in 3 cars a week and I prefer to do something else on this day of the week.

Have fun guys, and see you on Saturday nights :gtpflag:

Hi calden592,

We would love to have you in the league. Here's what you need to know and do in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You run the Time Trial. (NOTE: The tires selected for this have more grip than our current tire regulations allow, but please follow the directions exactly anyways).
2. You PM kcheeb with your time from the time trial (no Sunday racing until this is completed).
3. We assign you to the division that we feel will give you the closest competition. kcheeb will add you to the drivers list.
4. We send you a you a PSN friend request from the corresponding SNAIL_Division1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 account. That PSN account's lounge is where you will race on Sunday night.
5. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

Please note that we often race DLC from three add-on packs:

Racing Car Pack
Course Pack
Twin Ring Motegi Pack

If you don't have these add-on packs, you will need to sit out the races in which they are used.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.
To avoid duplication, the currently claimed combinations can be found here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.

Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

Crap, I'm not going to make it tonight. Can someone in D1 please save and upload the replays? Thanks!
