It's been discussed before, and I still don't think there's a reason to raise it. There are hundreds of cars that haven't been used, and in my opinion, street cars provide better bumper to bumper spec racing than race cars do. The number of new cars that will be introduced is minimal, the numbers have been crunched. IIRC, it's less than 50 cars that can be added to the list. Some people may not race often enough to have the credits to get the cars.

If you want those cars introduced, maybe an alternative approach could be a weekly cap of all new cars introduced for that week (one if the the car is frozen, two if the track is frozen) of $2 million. That is the same cap as now if 2 cars are picked at $1 million each, but if the track is frozen, and the first car picked is worth $20000, the other can be up to $1980000. If the car is frozen, the $2 million cap applies to only one new car. Just another thought that could expand the fields without really raising the cap.

yes the number of cars added would be minimal but the quality of the cars would increase and bring more options to the bigger tracks (spa and le sarthe) come to mind!

just my to cents worth:

So what if a big $$$ car stays, then another "expensive" car is frozen. The person who wins prize A has few options and limited credits. Not to mention less time to "test" while they wait for a decision on freeze track/ car. Freezing a track would free up credits but then you'll have 2 people needing to cooperate over the budget for cars.

I agree with raising the amount per car over a weekly budget....or just keeping it the way it is.

what he was saying though from how I read it was: The combo that stay doesn't effect the equation! the 2mil only effects the other 2 combo's up to 2 milion combined for any new car's brought into the field of play.

how ever if the combo that stay Example: le sarthe with the 908 HDi FAP - Base Model '10 on it (1.9mil) and the new combo's brought in are the F1 GTR Race Car Base Model '95 (1.75mil) and the RX-7 GT-X (FC) '90 (24,860) that's almost 4mil worth of cars! Which is 500k more then what I'm asking for and would make it harder for new GT6 drivers to enter SNAIL!

However you are correct it would slow down the process!

@chatva did you add the yes please? lol

There are slightly north of 900 currently eligible cars that have yet to be used for Sunday night racing.

It has been stated that lower power street cars make for better spec racing. I tend to agree with this statement.

I don't see how adding 86 higher power street or race cars would further along the cause of creating good spec racing. This is what doubling the cap would do. It would raise our cap by 100% and add less than 10% to our available cars. It's just not efficient.

I suggest that we start using the resources we have and be creative in our selections.

Did anybody consider running the boring seasonal events while you are waiting for someone to open a practice room and your wanting to drive?
It's a great way to wham up and you add to your balance, whether you need it or not!
think about it!
You want to drive... and nobody is on yet, kill some time and earn!

good point @JLBowler put a hat on and nobody will see it!
Really he does have a good Point, Ask @Rednose58 who has shown me some fantastic, good driving, low PP cars that we wouldn't have even thought of trying!

And you've said the same thing you say every time.

But so what? Yes, the amount of cars introduced is minimal but it's the few good ones that are added that make it worth it. Like Birdy aid, the 908 HDi FAP Base Model would be great to have in the roster for a faster but manageable challenge. And using the argument that there are hundreds of cars that haven't been used is irrelevant. The point is there are even more that are barely above the price limit that can and should be used. Here's a list of a few worth mentioning:

-The classic DTM cars
-Ferrari GTO
-Mazda Furai
-Ferrari SP1
-Nissan Zytek Z11SN Greaves Motorsport '13
-The standard Audi R8 MS that has colors to choose
-McLaren F1 GTR Race Car Base Model
-Ferrari FXX(2 Mil)
-Formula GT (2 Mil)

Over 2 Mil:
-GT by Citroen Race Car (2.25M)
-R10 TDI Stealth Model (custom number plate is all we need to tell us apart) (2.4M)
-787B Stealth Model (2.65M)
-Ford GT40 Mark I (2.8M)

EDIT: But what Bolwer said, moderately fast cars are better for close racing. Monday night is proof of that.

Good is subjective and over 900 cars can hardly be considered irrelevant. Even taking into consideration the duplicate and very similar cars, there are still multiple times more unused cars that fall within the current cap than the total number of new cars that could be introduced even if there was no cap at all.

Like I said, terms like "good" and "quality" are opinions and don't hold a lot of weight in an analytical discussion.

My opinion is that we keep the cap the way it is. I always thought that 'race cars' should stay in special events, enduro races and such and not in Sunday night races. There are so many combos that can be made with what's available now with the $1 million cap.
I've been in Snail almost as long as @JLBowler and I think he would agree, the best racing was always with the street cars.
There are plenty of 'race cars' that can be chosen right now. I'd rather race a very slippy street car than a race car any day.
That's my opinion.

I like race cars in general, so I'd like at least the 908 HDi FAP and McLaren F1 GTR to be the only exceptions. They are a lot easier to handle than you'd expect, especially the McLaren. And they're base models on top of that which is a huge plus.

This week's prize winners have changed;

and are clear to make their selections. Good racing!

Please review the instructions for your respective choices here.
The difference between Prizes A & B was 2/1000ths of an adjusted point!
The difference between Prize A & C was 0.568 of an adjusted point.

The steward Summary and official results will be posted tomorrow night. Any stewards wishing to add reviews to those already registered, please do so NLT 10:00PM Eastern.

But to justify raising the cap (which I'm neither for nor against) for the addition of just a few cars that you want to run is absurd. There are plenty of cars to choose from ( albeit a lot of undesirable ones) and plenty of tracks to pair then with. When the SSR was chosen not too long ago every one threw a **** fit and complained initially, but it turned out to be a fun night of racing.

For the winners now and in the future: Just because the car is boring solo or 4 deep when testing, doesn't mean it's going to suck come Sunday night with 10+ on the track.

I was looking to see where the majority stood. But seeing as this is your league and nothing will effect your mind I guess it's kind of pointless.

the 908 and mclaren wouldn't be in the cap that I proposed of 1.5mil they're both 1.9 mil cars! even within the 1.5 mil cap we get some good race cars for le sarthe

It's not my league and I'm open to discussion. I just don't put a lot of stock into the "I want to so it should be done" mentality. When someone can give me a well reasoned and practical explanation for raising the cap then it will be considered again.

When putting that reasoning together, you have to take into consideration the possibility that someone new to the game might join SNAIL and we don't want to make buying the cars an obstacle to joining the league. You also have to consider what would happen if you, or another member, were to lose their save data and have to start from scratch.

Yes which is why I only purpose a 1.5 mil cap not a higher one. Hell just to make me happy raise the cap on le sarthe only! that's the only track that having a higher cap really would come into play. Trying to find a car for that beautiful track is damn near impossible as a lot of car in the mil cap top out on the chicane track.

I'm re raising the issue as I have spent a lot of time in the practice rooms and combo picking rooms and it is one of those thing that keeps coming up. After chatva brought it up again I felt the need to see how many would actually want to raise the cap.

If you actually click on the link it states in the letter head that I would need more then half of last Sundays driver to sign it to even push it toward the management of snail. so far it's not looking good but you never know business could pick up!
"race cars" occasionally ,maybe.....Lol. I find lower powered street cars are much more fun for tight door to door races. We have a "race car" series , I'd be a quick vote to ban "race cars" altogether ...
God no! I like race car racing!

I bet you I could find more cars under the cap that don't hit the limiter than there are cars between 1.01 M and 1.5 M that don't hit the limiter.

that haven't been used, that aren't clones (viper's come to mind) and that would be good enough that all division's would enjoy driving it! Sound's like an interesting challenge when you want to do it!

Edit: oh and that will do 3 laps with in 4 minutes per lap!

I can probably get to 41 in an afternoon if I had that kind of free time. 41 out of 900 isn't all that difficult to do. Without even looking at the 40 cars that are in that range, I'm guessing I would only have to get to about 30 to more than cover it.

Edit: Since tone doesn't come across on a message board, this isn't a challenge. It's just me pointing out how absurd this reasoning is to raise the cap. More cars for one track so the cap should be raised. That's approaching the logic of DesertPenguin's "It should be done because I want it to be done" logic.

Why do you keep asking for exceptions? What is so special with those 2 cars over all of the other race cars we can't use? How easy cars handle isn't the point of the argument, or the purpose of SNAIL Sunday racing. The group has been racing with this formula, or one very similar to it for well over 3 years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I know you'll come back and say, "it'll make the racing better", but I'm sure one of those 900 cars that hasn't been used can provide just as good, if not better racing. It's up to the winners to find the gems and weed out the losers.

And you've said the same thing you say every time.

I'm saying the same thing, because I'm giving my opinion on the same topic that keeps coming up. What makes you think my opinion would suddenly change? I know you want a different answer, but from me, you won't get it. Bowler has given you the same answer each time too, and the same facts, as I did as well, but vaguely without the exact numbers.

lol no. no. this is a combo picking challenge you have till the deadline which is what Wed. Thurs. at the latest obviously. And since it's your pick you would either not give 2 cents about the rest of the drivers or try to find something that everyone will enjoy!

And I'm not asking for hypothetical I'm asking for a time. I'll meet you at le sarthe with the cars you think would create the best racing around le sarthe plus 10 1.5 max priced cars and we will do some testing.

Sorry dude. I have no desire what so ever to sit in a lobby with you for any amount of time. Especially if it's just for the purpose of proving the obvious to you. There are more cars under 1.0 that will not hit the limiter than there are cars between 1.01 and 1.5 that will not hit the limiter. The rest of the combo picking garbage you just threw in there is just that, garbage.

When you have the ability to carry on a conversation without interjecting your twisted little version of what I said, you are more than welcome to try and make a logical case for raising the cap. Until then, happy trails to you.

This conversation is over.
