I think I am the only one that liked the ending of the dark tower series. I thought it perfectly done, especially in retrospect. My only complaint is the whole Santa bit throwing sneatches. But I do love how King works in so many of his other stories into the DT. Especially Father Callahan. I read Salem's lot after that. Good stuff. Have any of you read the mistborn series by Brandon sanderson?

I think my main problem with it was that the major conflict ends up getting resolved by a random character who shows up so late in last book. Plus King's cameo just seemed a little arrogant to me, but hey, its his book I guess he can do what he wants.

And no, I haven't heard of the Mistborn series. Any good?

I have question for all those who use headsets. What headset do to recommend? It can be wired or wireless but needs to have a mic. Thoughts on why you recommend it would be great. Budget is up to 200 but I have no problem spending much less.

I thought I lost the Jawbone bluetooth earpiece that I got for my phone a while ago, so I bought this. It was $20, it works better than the Jawbone, and the battery lasts about 3x as long.

Gtplanet app doesn't show PSN IDs so that riddle will have to wait for me to get home to puzzle over.

Thanks for the headset info.

Another way to figure out my age is next year I will be the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything:)

recently joined the online game competitions and feel that some of the players are lacking in how to play the game. I want to join a group that I feel is able to elevate my skill a bit more.

Hey angel camacho,

Thanks for your interest, glad to have you :)

We run a clean league by enforcing the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and we expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both.

Follow These Steps:
1. I add you to the drivers list as a New S.N.A.I.L.
2. You run the Time Trial.
3. You Private Message my GTPlanet account with your time from the time trial (no Sunday racing until this is completed).
4. I assign you to the appropriate Division, to give you the best racing possible.
5. A PSN friend request will be sent from the appropriate SNAIL_Division1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 account. That is where you race on Sunday night.
6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday :)

The original post has a lot of information regarding the league, commit it to memory ;)

The second post has the current race lineup and is updated weekly.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, post your choices in this thread. To avoid duplication, the currently claimed combinations can be found here.

During the week we run a number of different events feel free to jump in and partake!

Welcome aboard and enjoy :)

I use the big Sony one. It's wireless (bluetooth with dongle) so I can move around without worry of hanging myself on something. The sound is good and the range lets me get almost all the way across the house without missing out on the conversation. They are very comfortable. Some smaller ones make my ears hurt after a while, but these do get a bit hot. They will play all sound (game and voice) through the headset, so I don't bother the wife much when I'm playing. The mix of game to voice volume is adjustable, as well. They also work with my computer which is a nice bonus. They are typically under or very near $100.

This is my experience with the Sony Headset to a tee. Quite like them.

Can't wait for September races, should be an intensely close battle in Div 3 if Jazz the robot is moving up :sly: Good luck to all of you Div 2 guys who have to deal with him now muahaha. I can safely assume this after watching that clinic Jazz put on last Sunday. Triple crown! Grats Jazz 👍

I did wonder a bit about how close jobyone's set up is. He might have some vision issues that require it be that close. I figured it might be impolite to ask.
.

I have a 58" TV, and I'm sitting... pretty darned close. I'm not legally blind, but my vision, more for reading, is indeed crap. I'm overdue for glasses (2 more weeks), but those usually only get me up to 20/60 or 20/80.

Close is good!

Yes. It is good.

So far as Mr. King and his DT series go; first four were great and looking like the kind of series he might not finish. As a long time reader of his works (if I'm missing any of his books, it can't be more than 1 or 2) I feel well qualified to make this assessment of his storytelling. There is a marked difference in everything he's published since his accident several years ago where he was run over by a van while walking the roads in the Maine countryside. It's as if his priorities shifted considerably away from storytelling and more towards getting the job done so he could do something else.
I agree that writing himself into the story, as himself, was very strange, but he is in every book he ever wrote as one, or parts of one or many, of the characters.

All that aside, I still didn't like the way he ended the set.

Hmm. So you'll be 16 soon? ;)

I have some more to add about this headset but will wait til I get a real typing device under my fingers. This phone is really starting to irritate me. If you've any specific questions feel free.

I think everyone should have to run their age as their number on race cars, you know, just 'cause.

I have this little bluetooth guy. Can't think of the name of it, but it likes to hide. Similar to http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/accessories/turtle-beach-ear-force-pbt-bluetooth-communicator/84519 but not that brand. Works well, and battery life is great, now if I could find the little bugger, I'd tell you what brand it is.

But this would leave us no room for superstitious numerological mysticism. ;)

I am using the PS3 wireless headset; great sound and no issues! Under a hundred bucks too, sweet deal!

Based on hearing you the other day in the lounge I am not sure that is a great recommendation;)

The headset works great; its just that the music is too loud in contrast to the voices (configuration). Great for Bluray movies too!

Check the reviews @ Amazon; for 80 bucks is one of the best deals.

I think you had masking on. You did not sound like any human i know:)

I have a Logitech F540 (I believe is the model but not positive). It is wireless which I like. It works with PS3 and Xbox (and any stereo headphone jack). It cost $150 and won't work unless you have the PS3 set to output 2 channel stereo. It's uncomfortable after a while and makes my ears sweat .... needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it 👎

Everyone prepare for the last Magic Lap race of the summer! After this, I'm not sure when the next races will be held, so be there tonight!

Please ensure you understand all the information in the Magic Lap thread. The procedure changes often so make sure to read it before each race to see if there have been changes.

The next set of races will be TONIGHT Friday, August 31st, at 10PM EDT.

Theme: Japanese Classics (same as last week) - As far as I can remember, which apparently isn't far, we haven't had a theme specifically dedicated to Japanese cars yet. But in many races so far, I've seen numerous drivers driving Japanese cars where eligible, most of them relatively modern. So to force them to drive something different, this week's theme will be classic Japanese cars. This is what Gran Turismo games are all about, it seems, and there's no shortage of cars to choose from.

If someone wants to be cheeky and use the Toyota 7, I can't stop them, but don't plan on using it the whole night. :D

You'll see me in a Toyota Sports 800 for sure, and possibly some historic rally cars. I'm allowing cars up to 1985 because they're classic enough, and we need some faster cars to kick the butts of the slower ones.
Track: Suzuka Circuit
Car Restriction: Country of Origin: Japan; Year: 1985 or earlier

Most importantly, please give the racing your full attention and try to keep things going as quickly as possible. Races can be set up very quickly if everyone is paying attention, but it can take forever if one person is dilly-dallying. We want to race as much as possible and we can't if there are people unprepared. In the same vein, if you show up and have not taken times for your cars, you will be asked to go to another room to get times before returning and racing. If I let one person get times in the lounge I'll have to let everyone, and we'll be back to running two or three races a night. Not good.

Finally, this is a fun, whimsical event that isn't meant to be entirely competitive. However, it is not dirty. I expect everyone to follow the OLR rules during the races. Concentration is especially important in these short races as one mistake can cost you or someone else everything. Instead of concentrating on speed, please focus on consistency and avoiding mistakes. I assure you that will make the whole night much more fun.

Well I looked in to it a bit and it looks like for my screen I should be from 2.6-3.1 feet from the display for optimum viewing. So I will see if moving it back a bit feels any better.
