Diabolic: Yeah, those last two races, my brake pedal kept getting locked up. slowing me way down. Otherwise I would have been right up there too! I was racing probably my best so far. Sorry if I brake checked anyone on daytona, it wasn't intentional. I may just spring for that new wheel sooner then later.
wrxsilver: have you properly broken in your cars? 200 miles then oil change? I know that I dont run insane lap times like the top runners, but I'm finding I race faster in a pack or chasing someone down, then I do by myself. As evident by constant below 5th qualifies, but up until daytona, I was tied for third with diabolic. Fast lap times dont mean a thing if you cant race in traffic. Which thanks to this league, I have gotten much better at.

I will be disappointed if HSR goes. The last turn is really difficult on the d-pad like you said, but I felt like I was beginning to get a hang of it, and was really improving my time through the rest of the track, too.

That said, it was obviously the site where my character came into question, so maybe I should be thankful to take a break from it.

Silver: Yeah. Restoring your chassis and engine after a proper break-in period can make a big difference. I saw myself pulling away from the start a couple of times because of it.

I will be taking prize B. My choice will be posted before noon pacific time.

I have to replace HSR or the RX-7. We've had the RX-7 for what seems like forever but the guys with the d-pad have issues with HSR. Maybe a lower powered and more stable car would be the answer.

Had a lot of fun last night, as always. Except on the High Speed Ring, that track befuddles me for some reason.

Thanks and apologies to Bowler. We got together on the final corner at the HS Ring, I'm not sure if it was him or me that caused it, but he was a true gentleman and waited for me. A good reminder to everyone, if you think you caused it, let them back through, Bowler was in an intense battle for first place overall, he waited ...

I moved up a little and you moved down a little and I shouldn't have been running right there anyways so it was my fault.

I wasn't in any kind of battle for first overall at that point. I only got into that battle with back to back wins at Daytona.

Pick me Monty, pick me :)

I'll be taking both of you up on this generous offer. The writing's been on the wall for a couple of weeks, I need help. I've taken what I've read about as far as I can. I need some objective and constructive criticism to improve. And I do want to improve 👍

Mopar and I will be hosting school practice rooms most nights during the week. :) Anyone who feels they need help is more than welcome. I love a good, close, competitive race. If you want the help, I'm sure we can help you shave off some time.

And I'll jump in the helpful rooms as well. I always love tips. It's just that ghosts are extreamly valuable too as a tool to see where one is gaining or losing. Way more effective for me personally than verbal help over the mic. Everyone learns differently. So, I'll be in any rooms I can get into. I have a feeling I need to avoid the "fun" rooms and spend more time in the practice rooms. LOL, I always wanted to put my finger on the reason why I'm not a cat and mouse fan....or why I just can't imagine how "dirty" rooms can be fun. I HATE contact....for me it is more of a simulater than arcade game. I would love to race cars in the real world, so this is most likely the closest I'll ever get. Oh, another chunck of advice I'm going to take is to work more on my licenses. Someone told me that getting gold in all the licenses took him forever, but made him a much better driver. Any truth to that with some other SNAILS?

I'm not a fan of the whole Cat & Mouse thing either, I even said so the first night I played it with other SNAIL members. Instead of doing the SNAIL Play Rooms most nights, Mopar & I hosted practice rooms, and I think it paid off. Mopar was able to drive the NSX in a Quailify Lap of 1:55.8xx & I've was able to do a 1:56.7xx. Mopar was really able to pull it together to reach that BLISTERING TIME! (Props Mopar). My point is, he wouldn't have done it without practicing.

Lap times are a good basis of speed, but they are NOT the end all be all to racing. This isn't a SOLO event. We have drive the track with Traffic, and this is where racing tactics will help you and I'm willing to share my real world experiences with the group - for the betterment of the group as a whole. Mopar is clearly a fast driver and yet he still comes to me for advice about a turn or a car setup. A couple of weeks ago, we were racing and I used real world racing tactics on him in a race. It opened his eyes to what is possible without cheating, ramming, grinding or punting your opponents.

The bumper issue is a driver issue. Most tracks and sections where you have room to run 2 or 3 wide through a turn and not have issues, but some turns on the same tracks are narrow and if you want to be fast, you need to get into single-file BEFORE you reach the turn. You might lose 1 position, but that is better than falling to the back all because you couldn't yield the 1 spot.

I will be hosting a room tonight and all week for school for anyone interested in improving your times, driving, and racing tactics.

Yes, I use to race professionally and Yes, I use to be a racing instructor. Just Ask Mopar, he's my #1 online student. We can help you.

Prime example of why people cant race clean

I apologize for anything that happened. When we got together it kinda looked like lag. I spent both races on the high speed ring in the back because I had to wait for someone or got hit on the last turn by everyone having a different line. I know on my screen when I passed you there was room for a whole car inbetween us. That being said, I know that everyone in this league is a curteous driver and very few people that play this game are proffesional drivers. Add in all the variables that come with being online and everyones connection having to calculate inches at a time at 140mph and this stuff is gonna happen.

The d-pad and I are ready for anything. The prize for winning is choosing what you want, but that you'd take others into consideration says something for this group. :)

Sometimes on the long turns (such as Daytona) I'll switch over to the joystick, but that last one at HSR is just a hint too abrupt to manage that. I end up doing this weird mix of oversteer/straight/coast/accelerate and just hope that the rear end stays planted through it all.

It's fun!

Well, this sucks.

First off, a sincere apology to anyone that I ran into yesterday. That kind of behavior obviously does not represent what those in S.N.A.I.L. are here for, nor does it reflect the kind of racing that I pride myself on. These are races that we all wait all week in anticipation of; to have them ruined through dirty driving is terrible. I'm horrified that I was the cause of that.

Next, my excuse, of course. :P I've looked back at the replay as saved on my PS3 (I saved all six to watch faster racers' lines and just to go back and see what happened in parts of the race that I couldn't see.) In the first High Speed Ring race I could not see you, Sparco. In the second, I could not see Psycho or Sparco, though I did not realize it at the time.

I knew going in that I probably was never going to be able to see Bronco, and just hoped that it would be a non-issue since he could not see me, either. In fact, I figured that even if our two cars occupied the same space at the same time, neither would be effected. That seemed to be the case.

Things were obviously different, though, when it came to Sparco and Psycho. I could not see them, but they could see me. If they ended up in the same space as me on their screen, it led to a crash, but as you can tell in the videos it seems to be a crash in which I am nearly unaffected. In the second race, I actually gain ground on Naruto despite running through two other cars.

On the other hand, when I ran through the space that appeared empty but actually contained one of the cars that I could not see, I drove on completely unaffected, not changing course nor heading from contact, nor losing or gaining speed or even hearing a bump.

What makes this really weird is that in other races I could see those other cars.

In fact, in the first race, I tried to take Psycho on the inside of a turn and I ended up sending him off course. I pulled up and let him back past me because of it. When I know that something like that is happened, I do what I can to correct it. I surely would have seen spinning cars in my rear view mirror at the High Speed Ring if I could have seen them at all, and would have let them back up.

I don't know why I could not see those other drivers, yesterday. I imagine the major traffic in the room was partially to blame. I've never had a problem with seeing other cars, before or that I know of, until Bronco and I first got into a room together.

Anyway, I will surrender all of my points for the High Speed Ring races. This will put me into Div. III with Sparco and Psycho again, but hopefully I can make things right with them when I can actually see them on the course. The side benefit is that Bronco and I won't be in the same room, so if our conflicting networks were the cause of more than just our two cars not seeing each other, it won't happen when I'm in Div. III.

Furthermore, I hope that the smaller groups next week will also serve to eliminate the problem.

In the meantime I will see if I can approve my NAT type or any other thing that may help the issue. I've tried before with no success but will give it another go.

If it will ease anyone's mind, I'll record a video of the race from my perspective, though the quality of that video is sure to be sketchy, at best.

Apmaddock, thanks for clarifying what happened. I had no doubt something was amiss for those incidents to happen and you not pull over to let Sparco and Psycho take back their positions. I've update the results to reflect your docked points. Thanks for voluntarily offering to concede the points. I think that says a lot too.

Bowler, thanks for the update. I've also updated the results to reflect your claim of Prize B.

Same here bud. I was telling bowler last night that I average 6-8 inputs on just that corner with the controller. Since I drive with my sensitivity increased its worse, but not a bad thing. I race much better when Im under pressure. example: my qual time in NSX was 1'58.2 but under pressure trying to run down most and miss d, I put in two 1'56s. Not sure where I'm going with this, I'm stuck at work bored presently.

... um mm the end.

I would just like to give a 👍 and to say that I really like this idea of only moving 1 person up & down from each of the 3 divisions. This would allow re-positioning of drivers based on their racing performance, and well as making it more challenging to get advancement. In addition, this would allow Division 2 to remain stable with only 2 new drivers introduced each week rather than 6!

I'm willing to help out as needed for the sake of the league. I really like this group, so far, and I'd like to help offer my support in any way I can.

With that being said - Mopar and I have opened rooms all week for practice and have been offering helpful tips and advice to make for more competitive racing. Last night we helped Zero, and a couple of others (sorry I cannot recall the names ATM) but I know that I helped Zero to shave off about 2 or 3 seconds from his lap times at Daytona & about .500 of a second for High Speed Ring. Mopar & I are more than willing hare our knowledge with anyone and everyone in the S.N.A.I.L. group. There isn't any magically Driving Secrets that will make you a Driving Super Star. However, there are driving techniques that will make you help you to be faster in a series our for a complex turn, and it's usually just 1 simple change that will make a huge difference. Mopar & I offer this knowledge freely because we love close competitive racing. ...I just thought I would throw that out there for anyone who may want it.

See you on the track tonight, and I'm really looking forward to the races tonight.

I wish I could make some of these sessions.. Unfortunately, Sunday is the only day I can really spend time practicing and competing. You and mopar both, as well as quite a few other members, seem to have a lot of knowledge that I could really use to help improve! Hopefully I can squeeze in a session or two. :)

I don't run with sensitivity increased, as it makes it seem to "game-ey" (not the flavor). I can only imagine how higher sensitivity would make your car want to shoot into the inside wall even more, there.

That's where my cyborg intuition comes in handy. I've always played this as a game because that's what it is. I'm looking for fun first and then I'll worry about improving if I choose hence i don't practice . Until what comes naturally won't keep me in D1, I'll continue to use d-pad + auto. At the first sign of struggle, Ill put the sensitivity back to zero and continue on.

I have a question regarding selecting a car & track.

I noticed that all 3 cars were (P) cars, so any car selected must be a (P)?
If a (S) car is an option, am I forced to select from the OCD to so everyone has the ability to acquire the car (given the limited access to (S) cars in GT5.

What about DLC cars, are they legal to select from? I realize not everyone has the DLC, but I have no idea what is off limits.

What about the tracks, is a DLC track okay to select, or should I limit my selection to the tracks GT5 shipped with?

I'm just trying to get a sense of what's okay, and what's not. This is a fair and clean group, Kudos to everyone here, so I would like my selection to be fair as well.

Please.

I would love to practice with you guys, real world experience would be a true asset to us who don't have that much. Unfortunately, schedule only permits Sunday nights, with a few random nights here or there. If you would Sharkie, just add me as a friend, I will check to see if you're online, when I am.

Good racing last night!

As far as I know, DLC is off limits, as that would force people to purchase stuff they may not want to purchase.

CHANGE ALERT

After a long and successful run, the RX-7 is being retired. The replacement for this will be the Alfa Romeo Brera Sky Window.

Hey rally, yes I did break the cars in and change oil. I guess I can just say my NSx ended up with exactly 440 pp and I don't know the hp off hand. Since they were bought new, i didn't think the re-fresh motor or chassis would matter, but just curious. Certainly not looking for excuses to bad technique. Lol. So I'm guessing that's the same pp for you all, which means the reason people can pass me in a straight like I'm under powered can only be my lack of exit speed. I figured as much and have no prob learning new and getting rid of bad habits. Darn work life always getting in the way of fun. Already thinking about what getting errand done quick after work to get some fun in.

Umm...is it possible that I was running the Nismo with a limiter? Would that get nixed by the tuning restrictions?

I went to use it in a B-Spec race today and saw that it was limited to about 75%. . . might explain why I couldn't get it to move at Daytona.

standard should be off limited because mileage may vary. I don't think OCD cars should count because what if the list is updated friday or saturday with snails not having made the purchase? I don't we want drivers excluded whom have not purchased the DLC. I think that sends a poor message.

The game will let you in to a tuning prohibited room with the power limiter in use. It is very possible that you were runing the car limited if the next time you looked it was at 75%.

Good racing last night!

I sent you a friend request days ago, you haven't accepted it yet. The same for a few people:
  • aDirtySpic
  • cmbeal317
  • Diabolicwyvern
  • g-MachineREX
  • gaumualexancer
  • Space_Echo

As far as I know, DLC is off limits, as that would force people to purchase stuff they may not want to purchase.

Good to know, thank you. :D

I ask because I did see the results of the first race and one of the tracks was Spa - which is DLC.

It's not a big deal, I just wanted to know what's cool, and what's not.

Thanks Diabolic! :D

As stupid as I now feel I also feel much better about those races. The fact that I could remain within about 30 seconds at race's end with the limiter on means that I'm not as terrible as it seemed.

No wonder it seemed like drafting wasn't working at Daytona.

You should be able to pick Standard cars if they were prizes in offline mode, though. . . I would think. They're then available to everyone.

Just wanted to say that I had a good time last night racing with everyone. Even though there were a few incidents with some of you which I see you are working out, I think everyone did pretty good. I know I'm new to the league so this might sound stupid but I don't understand, looking at the threads why everyone makes excuses of their incidents being because of lag. I've raced with a lot of people that have dial up connections and never seen any lag. Don't want to start anything maybe those who are experiencing so-called lag might just need a little bit more practice. Just a thought. I am not a professional racer by any means but I do make sure I take time and practice as much as possible so I could make it enjoyable not just for me but for everyone else. Again it was great racing with everyone and look forward to next Sunday.

Somehow, and that’s my question I think, it seems like my car is the most easily knocked off kilter. All other parties involved seem to race on. Leaving me feeling like it can only be something I'm doing wrong.

That's exactly what happened to me last night. Whenever there was contact the offending party just drove on. I know I wasn't the only one being jostled around but it sure seemed like I was the only one being run off the track. I am going to have a look at the other drivers settings next week and see if I (we) need to be using ASM or something.

Normally when it comes to lag you can see it in the other cars, not your own. It looks to the lagger like everything is going along nicely, while the other racers see a car shooting back and forth and left and right all over the track. The lagging car can cause another car to change directions very suddenly or gain/lose tremendous speed instantly.

You can see in the last race at about 1:55 that the black car is somewhat wildly traveling up and down the hill, thrashing cars on its way by. The server may only be getting periodic updates of the car's real position, leading it to guess what happens in between and causing it to travel that way.

Fortunately lag of that sort is not something that I have had a problem with. My only problem has been staying connected to a room (not a common problem) and seeing everyone in the race (which, until recently, had never happened before).

About picking Standard cars: They probably shouldn't be the prizes for winning LeMans 24 hours A-Spec or something similarly difficult to get on short notice.
