Heel/Toe is entirely based on feel. Not just mashing plastic pedals supported by springs. Rally is spot on. I learned it when I used to take my old 911 to track days. Rev matching for easy downshifting is useless in a game without the feel of a real transmission, clutch and brake. In the game you have no way of feeling the "snick" of your shifter placing the gear in the correct cog while blipping the throttle to match the new RPM of the vehicle to the gear you want to be in at the speed you want to be travelling after applying the brakes. Blah blah...don't waste your time doing it in a video game. You need real mechanical and hydraulic interfacing to do it.

👍 for the old 911. I'm your traditional Midwest Murican all about Corvettes, but something about the 911 makes me

I have a mental list of all the cars I want to drive someday, but never have. The 911 has probably been on that list longer than any other car. I might have to rent one someday just to scratch it off :)

I miss it dearly. It was a 1980 euro model. Had 205hp on the Dyno and weighed 2100lbs. It was my daily driver when I bought it in 1998 for $13k. Sold it in 2002 when kids loomed large in my future. Car had terrible A/C, the heater was removed (who needs heat in florida) but it was bulletproof, simple (no power steering or brakes), light and fast. Added several things to make it track worthy and had a blast.

When the kids no longer need child seats I will sell the 4-runner and get another old 911...probably late 80's or early 90's. I loved it. Like nothing else. In good ways and bad but definitely a driver's car.

I know I'm not invested in this thread, but I'm a snooper so here goes: I disagree with your theory about it not being a good way to practice for real life. After teaching myself to heel/toe in the game, I became able to execute a "perfect" heel toe in an MX5 cup car the first time I tried it in real life. It's not perfect in GT, but the muscle memory is the same. It's also good for teaching braking with both feet depending on the corner.

Just my .02. Sorry to interrupt ;)

Maybe the difference is that I learned to heel toe in real life and then tried it in game, but it feels so wrong compared to a real car. The car does not react at all like it should. The clutch doesn't respond properly, the car doesnt react right if to high or low in the revs, and the braking isn't give any feed back either. It's completely devoid of sensation. If it's just the muscle memory thing, then you can learn with the game off and just practicing with the pedals by themselves and get the same result. For that, you're better off doing it in your real car so you can at least get a feel for where your pedals really are.

No argument from me there :) Thanks for responding.

No problem, I'm happy to debate anytime. Zer0, sounds like it might be worth at least a try. I tried this afternoon, and went to neutral more then I hit a gear. But you may get better results.

***We interrupt this thread to bring you this important news bulletin***

Attention SNAIL Stewards. We need just a little more of your help in the stewards forum to review a few unresolved race complaints.

***We now return you to your regular thread as scheduled***

My favorite us the '77 Turbo with the Whale tail.... So sweet!

Excellent guess. With a good first section you can go below 1:16.5.You have to be really smooth in that section to yield good results (aim for 31.4 down the hill). 👍

It's not the first section where you make up/lose time. It's the long right (after the downhill switchbacks) and final right where you will lose a huge chunk of time on the fast guys. I was up a tenth on Worst in qualifying after the first section but lost almost a second after that. So if you can practice (unlike myself, who uses race day qualifying as my practice) then concentrate on the last half of the lap.

Thats also the best place to pass, between the right hander after the tunnel and the esses, use that area to get tight and the move on the straight before the switch backs. Racers, you're going to have to content yourselves with only getting a few positions at most on this track. This one takes patience and timing to make a move. Don't be the one thats barging through. It's very important to have very good situational awareness here. Especially on the switchbacks. Keep that ATD you!

Last corner is a great place to overtake too, getting more speed out of this corner can make you earn the inside lane after the jump.

Great racing last nite in D-1 with D-2 to D-5 drivers beast !!!!!!!!

Great racing? How about fantastically superb downright to the teeth wheel to wheel action that just never stopped. I had a few of the best races in my snail career last night! I say that a quite a bit, but it's because it happens all the time!

DrGreenThumb and I had some pretty good battles last night. I forgot how close some people can race and not give anything 👍

Also Albitfosi and me went side by side through the chicane at Nürburg without touching and that was just cool on top of cool with a little dash of awesome 👍
