One that makes me have little faith in the human race is one in Australia last year (I think). A lady was on business trip and staying in a hotel. She invited a man around to spend the night and while they were doing something other than sleeping, the light fixture on the roof broke and fell on her. Her company didn't believe that was cause to claim as a 'work-related injury' and didn't pay her out for it, so she sued them :rolleyes:

To be fair though, unless she was hanging from it, the hotel should've paid. They should have insurance for just such occasions.

I don't know if I'll make it tonight, but I'll try. After my Tuesday project last night (where I came in dead last, for the fifth week in a row), Diabolic, Leadbedr, Spooble, and I were talking. A few of us had Corvettes so we puttered around Trial Mountain / Reverse. I was the only one with a C6, though.

The tires are a luxury. There are just a few places where I need to worry about the back stepping out, and because the engine and the weight are in the front, when it does step out, it isn't a guaranteed spin. I do think the brakes are weak. That thing must weight more than I realize, or I'm just used to the S2000 and the Evora I've been driving recently.

I was able to do a 1:35 in a five lap race, and my tires were holding together. During the practice before that, I was more aggressive and the tires didn't last four laps.

There are some questions:
  1. How many laps?
  2. I'm used to the yellow areas on either side of the back straight (with the long tunnel) being in bounds. But they are outside of the white lines. Are those yellow areas in bounds?

I can't recall, but I *think* the hotel said they'd pay for part of it...although there was no doubt that it falling wasn't due to shoddy fittings (apologies, it wasn't on the roof, it was the light above the bed on the wall). She didn't win the case so a bit of common sense prevailed there at least, lol

It'll likely be 7 laps.

okay, let's address those points.

Yes, the Corvette Z06 (C6) is a FR powertrain, but the weight balance is good because of where & how the transmission is mounted in this car - it's mounted at the rear axle rather than to the rear of the motor. This plays the bulk of the weight of the transmission to rest on the rear wheels and allows for a more balance car. If you check the weight balance, it's fairly close to 50-50 (at least, it's suppose to be near that mark.

The Trial Mountain Reverse is 7 laps. Yes, tire wear is going to be an issue everyone. If you have no tires left by the end of 4 laps, then I strongly suggest you attend "Sharkie's Tutoring" for advise

The Yellow paint area. This is a valid question that needs to be address. My personal opinion is the yellow areas are part of the track, as these ares are of the exact same race surface. Again, that is my opinion, but I will defer to Zero and his cohorts to make that call. I do know that Zero was in attendance last night at Sharkie's Tutoring and I had used the yellow paint areas, and I did hear a peep from him or anyone else regarding the yellow painted areas.
I'm just sayin'.

The NSX is supposed to be well balanced, too, but if the back-end on that goes, it is much harder to recover. For me, at least. Mind you, these are also on different tires, so maybe that is the only reason. The Corvette is heavier, but not by much. And I'm sure suspension setups could affect that, too.

Anyway, I expect better racing this week from this than from the NSX at Cape Ring. Though, it isn't as much fun, to me, as the S2000 at Deep Forest is.

It usually doesn't matter for the practice races, but they do like the do other games after the practice races. I will be online tonight to do practice/tutoring before and after practice race. As usual, I will make a post here in the forums when I'm going to host "Sharkie's Tutoring".

7 laps :nervous: Garris saw in his rear view how well my tires made five laps. I was pushing the 04 car with 50 less pp though, but I still see how a splash of tire conservation here and there will be helpful. dare i say needed.
 
BTW, my favorite WTF lawsuit. The lady her burn her mouth on Mcdonalds coffees, forever changing the tops of coffee cup lids forever. I mean really? You didnt know your coffee was going to be hot? Did you expect it to be cold? I dont get it. Rewarded for being a dumb ass. No wonder good sense isnt common, it doesn't pay. Anyway. If you see a warning, its probably because no matter how stupid, somebody probably did it. Hence my nubby finger. Although there was a sign, I still got my finger caught and crushed. No pay out, insurance covered the repair of the injury/medical, and time off work. But I didnt go looking for a pay day either. My dumb ass didnt lock out the machine before hand. There is a few more things to the story. But it is what it is. and now Im half a finger shorter for it. Lesson learned. Chains and sprockets and dangerous. I still get kinda nervous when I work around the chain on my CBR.

OMG, don’t get me started. Certainly an infuriating situation. Along these lines, I've always wondered why, with all the amazingly huge pay outs from the cigarette manufacturers to people who were shocked and surprised they ended up with lung cancer, there aren’t a few hundred lawsuits to some alcohol giants. Not be all serious here, but I know alcohol was the sole reason for my parent’s demise. Alcoholism. Years of horrible binge drinking that, no argument out there could convince a jury that their sickness and deaths (separate instances) was caused by anything other than booze. Point being and maybe I just missed the stories/cases, but why hasn’t someone with a colostomy bag and a nice yellow hew about them, suing the pants off of X brand Alcohol Company? Same thing right? Same ridiculous argument…..”oh, I didn’t really understand that what I was putting into my body was hurting me….” “oh and no, I can’t read, so I wasn’t ever able to read the millions of cautions/warnings/skull and crossbones on every slightly hazardous thing on the planet. I don’t care what year you were born, somewhere along the way, you had to have heard alcohol can harm, cigarettes can harm, and coffee is god damned hot!! Do we need to re-vamp the jury selection process? I mean no way in hell, could the sharpest lawyer on the planet convince me that the alcohol company is at all responsible for my parents death. They made the decision. Give me a break with all that. As soon as the verdict was read, can the judges throw a case out at that point? If so, sue his ass too for agreeing with total madness!! I always had an opinion that judges were wise and intelligent…..I’ve since been proven wrong. How did they ever get where they are…..never mind, don’t tell me. Those cigarette companies should be able to sue the court system and idiots sitting on the jury, for serious negligence in logical thinking causing serious financial burden. Obese people should certainly keep on suing the fast food companies too for forcing them to eat 10K calories a day and somehow placing blinders on them so they don’t see the healthy choices all around them……. Or perhaps the advertisers for not advertising the fact that there are these places out there called grocery stores… oh wait……. Simple quiz to see if we are on the same page……..when a family member decides not to wear a seat belt, or turn an airbag off, then said person is ejected and killed….we should A.) out of sadness, find the fault and blame to be that of the auto manufacture for not putting large enough stickers, campaigns, and cautions on said items, or B.) Grieve our loss and understand that many decisions we choose to make in life have serious repercussions and possible tragic life ending results. Free to make all the decisions we want here in this country, but when bad things happen due to these decisions, please don’t forget to look elsewhere for a nice spot to place the blame.

We raced 7-lappers last night, and it wasn't too bad. Definitely slick by the end, but I did not think it was unmanagable. (And I'm awful on tires. :sly:)
 
Allright, this week I've deceided to do a little practicing. 7 laps at Trial Mountain will be a balancing act between speed and conservation, should be fun. 10 laps at Grand Valley East may lead to some folks getting lapped. As for the yellow areas, they were in bounds the last time we ran there so I would assume they are good this time as well.
 
Yeah. After seven laps you'll likely have about 1/2 of your tires left if you're fairly careful. I was thankful that my front tires were going before my rears. When it happens the other way oversteer and spinning become a really big problem. Practice your lines, guys, because if you spin once or twice you might be forced to pit to finish.

Regarding the yellow line area: I'm pretty sure that's in bounds. Everyone that I saw was racing on it. The AI does, as well. I think it's more of a "look out for your side mirrors and falling rocks" warning area then an out-of-bounds marker.

...being able to finely control throttle application, thereby reducing tire spin and the associated loss of acceleration, stability, and tire life. And this has not been more noticeable than I suspect it will be with the Corvette @ Trial Mountain Reverse.

Seems like I saw this tire wear thing coming.

No need to defer, its spelled out pretty clear in the OLR and issues like this were just handled for DFR. The rumble strip is the edge of the track (red, white curbing for those wondering what the rumble strip is), if there is no rumble strip, then the tracks edge is where it turns into grass/wall/gravel/anything not the same as the track surface.

Ummm feeling a bit left out here ;)

Like other's have said, you should have just above 50% or so on tires if your not driving "Flat out", if you do, you will have around 37-47%. And then tires get greasy, and your slipping and slidding all over the place.

Well, I guess we can look at changing the name.
- If we call it "Mopar's Tutoring" then it's possible to think we are teaching others about Mopars rather than racing. *giggling* :lol:
- We can't call it "Sharkie & Mopar's Tutoring" that name is too long for a regular lobby. *still giggling* :lol:
- We could shorten the name to "S&M Tutoring", but that sends the wrong message entirely. *LMAO* :lol: :lol: :lol:
...although the room would fill up quickly, I'm sure. :lol: ..but there would be a lot of disappointed people. ;)

I think we're just gonna have to stick with "Sharkie's Tutoring" as it seems to be the best name possible. *giggling* :lol:

doughboy won't be able to get online tonight so I'll be hosting the Wednesday practice races in his place. The format will mirror league night, so each round of races will be preceded by 10 minutes of qualifying. Therefore, the session will last about two hours just like on Sunday night. There will not be a "second hour" of another type of racing tonight. Also, please note that doughboy's reference to the D2 lounge is incorrect. Per our divisional lounge system, all tutoring, practice sessions, and practice races are to be held in the D1 lounge.

I'm pretty sure she can do whatever she chooses in her own lounge. And unless I've missed something, she can post it here.

Im pretty sure that part of the stipulations of this league is that all practice is to be open to everyone, and any official practice events are to be held in lounges accessible to people in snail.
If practices are going to be done with the current track/car combos, then that would indeed be an official snail practice session.
Now of course she is free to do her own practice in her own lounge, but then she should do it in her own thread for her own practice sessions. This is a thread for snails. Unless I missed that part.
