Question...while watching some replays from last Sunday I noticed a driver deliberately ghost his car to avoid knocking another driver off track.
I can understand his concern in not wanting to ruin the other guys race but this is illegal is it not?

I think this was discussed a few weeks ago if i remember correctly. It was deemed illegal and against SNAIL rules if memory serves.

"18 points or more - Use of the ghosting feature to avoid a collision or accident, use of the ghosting feature to gain any type of advantage either on track or off (ex: ghosting through a sand trap), or use of the ghosting feature that causes another driver to take evasive action or be distracted.
"

EDIT: This was @JLBowler 's response:
It would still be a violation. SNAIL is trying to keep things as real as you can in a video game. Cars don't ghost in real life and they shouldn't ghost here. That is one of the reasons the in game penalty system was abandoned in SNAIL. Drivers approaching the smoke should slow and take necessary caution to attempt to avoid cars in the smoke. If they don't do that, they shouldn't be rewarded because someone in the smoke decided to ghost their car. Aside from that, when a driver ghosts their car, the game takes control and would get you going in the right direction faster than you could by waiting for traffic to clear and rejoining the race. That would be an advantage gained by the driver who ghosted their car.

Totally illegal , and as posted above would be at least an 18 point penalty as it is deemed the use of a known cheat

Who he is referencing is me, it was at daytona and i over shot turn two and was behind alex oneil i believe he had just passed me and was in first. i ghosted out of habit and went off the road and sat until every racer passed me

best to remove that button from an "easy to use" location and stop using it in practice to cut the habit. I see some use it throught the week to avoid incidents and its only a matter of time before they get burned on a Sunday night.

Funny...as long as I've been racing and playing video games, and thats a long time. I never new you could use this feature before I joined SNAIL.

So, you've never hit the start button on a controller, of any type, while driving, and if you did, you didn't notice your car ghosting? That's even funnier.

When SNAIL was still using the in game penalty system that particular functionality was used rampantly. It was probably the source of how confusing and broken the penalty system acted. Now that penalties have been turned off, it's plain to see when someone uses it and why there are rules to govern when it can and cannot be. This particular functionality is intentionally built into the game. It's not a glitch or a bug. Folks have been finding ways to use a game's functions to their advantage since games were invented. This particular one has been used for unfair advantage since at least GT5. It didn't become governable until penalties were turned off.

Obviously it happens but it never dawned on me I could use it during a race until I joined SNAIL and seen it happen.
I just hit the start button or is it the pause button (now I'm really confused :boggled: ) to pause the game and exit.

What's his name and position Mike?
Paul Byron... A forward of some type (winger?) Used to play for my flames before he got traded... Was one of my favourite players, and listening to him talk to the press after being traded was heart wrenching. Glad to hear he's going to be a steady NHLer now!

As I noted before in support of TomMang's combo suggestion.

1st Honda HSV at Fuji....
2nd option, in support of wolf, same car at spa.

I can't access file for voting on my iPhone at this time.

Thanks team!

@Grandpa Money these are your options for Prize A and you have until 8PM ET on Thursday to choose from these suggestions.

@Grandpa Money @JLBowler
for your consideration:

Honda
HSV - 010 GT Base Model '12
493 HP/573 PP before oil change
519HP/580 PP after oil change
RH Tires
Fuji Speedway/GT
Lap times sub 1:35.xx

vote for prize A - suggesting Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R '00 - 483PP and 384HP after oil change - track Laguna Seca

Prize A suggestion: @Grandpa Money
'06 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 @
Grand Valley East (forward)

I have a Samsung smartphone and a tripod !

@JLBowler @Grandpa Money

Honda
HSV - 010 GT Base Model '12
493 HP/573 PP before oil change
519HP/580 PP after oil change
RH Tires
Spa Francorchamps

@JLBowler
Ferrari 430 scuderia '07 (sport softs) @ Red Bull Ring (full and forward)
After a few laps I ran 1:34, so 1:34-1:35 is probably mid division time.

View media item 13841
My proposal for Prize A is:

Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 Base Model '13
591HP/609PP before oil
621HP/617PP after oil
RM Tires

Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit

Edit: @JLBowler , @Grandpa Money , @Rednose58

Ok guys I have driven every combo suggested .. PRIZE A is ...

Honda
HSV - 010 GT Base Model '12
493 HP/573 PP before oil change
519HP/580 PP after oil change
RH Tires
Fuji Speedway/GT
Lap times sub 1:35.xx

I feel this is going to be a great combo. Fuji is so wide there will be plenty of opportunities for passing. First time using this car for snail too it seems.

Thank you @Grandpa Money for making your choice in a timely fashion.

On another note, @Matthew Barry you have until midnight ET to declare what you are going to do with the freeze. If you fail to post here, you will be awarded Prize B with no freeze option and @msgt-sd will be awarded Prize C which is the freeze.

Deadlines will be determined if we reach that point.

This deadline has come and gone. @msgt-sd the freeze is yours. Would you like to keep Apricot Hill or the R390? Please make a choice ASAP as we will now have to move to a suggestion period to get a replacement car / track chosen in time for practice tomorrow night.

If you raced in D6, be thinking about a car or track to pair with whatever is frozen. You will be making suggestions and the rest of those that raced will be voting.
