again.. Merry X mass all..

I was wondering if any Snail owns a Dodge Challenger? Specifically the 6 liter one.

Last year I drove a Charger for a whole week and I surprisingly enjoyed it a lot.

Hefty discounts at the dealerships right now. I've just spent a few Ks on Audi maintenance and again I need to get some done... With 120 miles being driven daily... I'm considering buying a new car instead of dropping a few Ks every few months.

While I was mainly looking at really good MPGs... most of them don't ring the 'appeal' bell.

Thoughts?

Assuming your price point is a v6 challenger, is that your price point?

Is a Subaru WRX/STI an option? If the appeal is there, it can also carry more than the Chally and it's AWD which is probably handy where you live. Just don't let them stick you with summer-only tires. Also less MX than an Audi...

I like my 2015 GTI, but would have gone with the flappy paddle version if I was dealing with 95's traffic. My complaint is the gearing is set... strangely. To get excellent mileage: pretend to be 80, shift at 1900 rpm, 6th gear at 40 mpg. Boom - 30-36 mpg. To have fun.... drive normally. I can't get heel'n toe to work well yet - the turbo makes it tough to match. ECU is pretty easy to modify/customize.

I occasionally wish I had tried some more used WRX models, but they had more miles than I trusted a WRX owner to rack up then want to get rid of said car... and I wanted the hatchback.

Good luck!

And you know those miles were in anger. There's no driving a WRX easy, it asks to be pushed.

As a second car, I went with the Forester 2.0 XT Touring this summer and have not had a regrettable thought pass through my head. I test drove 3 different WRX models (2 being the same version, just different dealer add-ons). As much as I really wanted to own a WRX, I found it to be "clunky" almost clumsy feeling in normal, everyday traffic. They really are built around performance driving and not much for just daily driving. On my last trip to the dealer, I was set to buy the STI when I asked a service tech about his experiences with the car. He asked me if I had driven the Forester Touring model with the 250hp Boxer.....hello! I bought it after the first drive.

I've since added a Perrin complete exhaust and a AEM air intake. Maybe a second set rim/tire package in the spring but the Michigan winter/roads are brutal on cars.

I'll post a pic later

Here's my experience with the Challenger/Charger, no wait! The FCA company as a whole. I live and work in the heart of FCA land with it's headquarters literally across the street from my business, come from a family involved in the automotive "insider" business all my life and have only this to say of the Challenger/Charger models, If you own them:
1. Follow the maintenance schedule to a tee.
2. Use the absolute best replacement products (oil, transmission, BRAKES, and normal wear items) that you can get, even if those products are more costly.
3. Take care of the body/paint as FCA has still not figured out a longevity system for this.

I'm not looking for a forum argument on this car vs. that car, people like what they like and I'll respect their right to do so. I'm just telling you what I've experienced in the local automotive community as an automotive enthusiast who routinely rubs elbows with engineers, parts suppliers, project managers, designers and tons of racers and normal everyday folk.

Now with all that, I would still take the Hellcat if it was free, for around 50k miles, then they can have it back. And yes, I've owned several models of a specific FCA product that sounds like Peep, but that's a whole other story.

@Wolfsatz Civic Hatch maybe? Sport model comes turbocharged and standard with 180hp. Seems like a bargain to me along with the standard features and good mpg. Although it might be at the far end of the spectrum with the challenger, but maybe a better car to live with than the gti.

Im still a bit lost on what type a car he's looking for. Suggestions seems scattered. These are the cars mentioned

A "sports/muscle" car - Challenger
A "hot hatch - GTI
2 seater - miata/124 spider

He mentioned something with good mpg but a challenger isnt necessarily frugal on fuel.

I'm just thinking of keeping RWD for some fun aspect and relatively cheap. There's always the 86GT or maybe a BMW Z4? They're all used since they're not making new ones

I drove a CrossTrek and I was pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps Ill return to test drive a Forrester.

@Ricky_Blayz

your Civic suggestion picked my interest to test drive one. but there is none available at this time in FXBG (some coming soon).

Went out on track to play today!
Had my thumb, the broke one inside the spook of the wheel, wheel jerked and thumb took a big hit!
Man oh Man that hurt, but no damage, with some topical treatment, good to go!

edit: knew better after all my time off-road in dune buggy's!

keep your thumbs up!!!!!!

I would still encourage the GTI, but the Toyobaru Twins are a hoot, and hold up very well in Autocross and at the track as well.
I have to second the "Toyobaru twins". I'm a V8 American car type, but if I were in the market for a $30k sporting car with great fuel economy, the FR-S or BRZ would be at the top of my list. Only downside I can see about this car is it only has 2 seats. Otherwise, it appears to be a great all around sports car.
Another option to think about if open to less economy and more performance is the 2016 or newer Camaro. The Camaro SS1 performance/ $ value cannot be touched. 460hp in a balanced chassis, and can still knock down avg mpgs of low 20's. Styling I would imagine might be the biggest hangup for some...you either love it or hate it, but there is no denying it as a great car. That one is the next car in my crosshairs down the road. If your not in a hurry and open to the Camaro, my advice would be to look for a used '16. I have seen 1 year used Camaro SS' for low-mid $30k range.
Good luck to you.

I drive my friends FR-S frequently and it is a blast. I had a V6 Challenger as a rental car for about 2 weeks and it was surprisingly good on gas. 30 mpg. It has some horrible blind spots and for being a big car has little to no room in it. It was still fun to throw around though.
