I wouldn't say impossible to go back , a few of us are doing it weekly.
Comparing what's out now to the old GT6 like everyone keeps doing is , as the saying goes , Apple's to oranges. The fact that people still race the dinosaur GT6 with all the other glam out there is a testament to how good the game actually is.
Count me in , 2
Oh, I meant impossible for me. I know a few of you are doing it.
But I have very limited race time and I can't justify to myself doing in in GT6 when I could be doing it in PCars and/or Assetto and/or Automobilista.

Thanks @Rednose58 and anyone else who helped with the ROC race last night.
Had an epic battle (well...In my mind anyway lol ) with @turnupdaheat @Kgffy in combo 2 followed by a crazy finish with @nmcp1 .. I'm archiving that sucker!
Like some have said, as old as this game and system are it still manages to hit the sweet spot sometimes.
Good times, good friends and good racing last night.

I watched that battle for almost the full race. Great driving @singlepaddy.

As I posted in the RoC room last night it was refreshing to see wins for the 3 rounds NOT in D1/D2. Everyone races real clean! Kudos y'all!

Tell that to GT ACADEMY and all the real drivers that have gone from game(GT6) to real life racer. Some even getting all their practice here with SNAIL.;)

Absolutely a valid point. It's not so much that GT6 is not a capable of being a platform for good racing, it is simply less refined. I always give credit to the GT brand for allowing me to learn more about racing. The engine is still more than good enough to learn from and practice with. 👍

The GT physics are not bad by any stretch of the term, but compared to the newer games, you can see where they are lacking. The mid-engine feel I get from PCars and AC is more precise, less fragile (I guess) than GT6. That X-Boar R combo is the perfect example. It drives like a totally different car in those games. It's definitely physics and the tire model right?

Physics and the stock setups on each car in the different games are quite different from what I've seen but again hard to compare. Nothing will be exact in a game, so each game does their best to interpret what you'd feel in a car into 1s and 2s with their individual FFB settings. Newer games are able to have more depth with a much better system in the ps4.

GT6 being old may be one part of the equation but definitely not the only one. For me there are many reasons contributing to me making a conscious decision to step away for now which finally came to a head where i said enough. Not going to go into it here but generally the idea and mission statement of snail are great but the execution and actual experience is often not.

Snail is great! I have met many cool people and had many great battles in snail. Just lately it hasnt been what im looking for. Still very active in gt6 just not here. Maybe after a break i will feel differently. Maybe there will be a culture change that lures me back. Maybe ill see you all in gtsport or pcars2. Until then everyone have fun and remember not to put yourself above the league. Thats a start.

I am officially not going to attempt to host the event again. For the next one we will see who signed up and I will ask one of the guys with a known strong connection (@racingchamp30 , @msgt-sd , @MSgtGunny , etc... ) to host.

There are a lot of behind the scenes work going on and I'm just pressing buttons and do some copy-and-paste, maybe throw in an idea here and there. The real wizard behind it all is @msgt-sd who takes all the rules, regulations and ideas and collect all the data, do all the calculations and create the sheets, links and pre-populated texts so that we can compete the way we did last night. For the next ROC we will make a slight adjustment to compensate for the time lost to get to the start-finish line on lap one. So, @singlepaddy , not only @nmcp1 will be blowing down your neck, you may have @turnupdaheat , @Kgffy and a bunch others to fend off next time :mischievous:

Keep your eye on the ROC thread - I will post the race report later today

No Tuning
D1 & D2 - Lexus IS350 GT300 Base Model - Sport Soft tires
D3 & D4 - Subaru BRZ GT300 Base Model - Racing Hard tires
Two 15 minute races set Endurance style, not laps. Race 1 is fastest first as the lobby will be open for a bit. Everything after is reverse grid.
Apricot Hill Raceway - Forward, followed by five minute break in which time players may vote for the next track.
Tire/Fuel Wear set to off, this is to counter the fact that SS and RH wear differently.

Have a room open if anyone is interested. Don't know if Penguin is going to make it so i am hosting.

Edit: Both vehicles run at a closer pace with the Lexus on SS tires and Subaru on RM tires. Rednose posted a 1:22.03 time on Apricot hill and i posted a 1:22.38 time on RM tires.

I'm back, we're racing, you should all join us.

Switched up to RH and RM tires respectively as they are closer in time delta. About to have another race at Apricot Hill then voting for track for a 30 minute race with 1 mandatory pit stop. Should be good. Where are you?

UPDATE: Thanks @racingchamp30 @basswerks1 @Rednose58 @Wolfsatz @GTLehman and @varga for coming out tonight. We had some good close racing between divisions. Tracks used were Apricot Hill, Motegi East, Spa, and Grand Valley - Reverse. Spa was a 30 minute race but the others were 15, Grand Valley at 20 to let the tires wear a bit more but they didn't feel that bad by the end. Next time we'll try 30 minutes with fast tire wear to make it more like a microcosm of an endurance race.

Once again there is a good chance this will be done again tomorrow so if you don't give a crap about the Superbowl, your wife steals the TV, or you just would rather be racing, check the thread tomorrow for more info.

... what time are you planning for?

Any tips on the RUF?

Unrecognizable for me. Frustrating to a disappointing degree, even factoring in the turbo. I feel like an extra 500 lbs is hanging on the rear bumper and the tires are on ice.

What am I missing?

(Report Cards done by Tuesday, will try to practice after that)

The last time I drove any RUF on Sunday it required extreme smoothness and patience. I don't recall which one it was but there was definitely a sweet spot for downshifting to nail the latest braking possible and avoiding lockup.

I don't think I ever said I was definitely having an event tonight. It was just loosely mentioned that if people speak up and are vocal about wanting something tonight that we might start it up again. The regulations are mine but I don't need to be there for everything to work like clockwork. Open a room, have fun.

Sorry, my social life is finally going somewhere and that's very important to me.

You got to keep the penguin happy too......keep it up!

I don't have all the answers. Maybe @SAMHAIN85 can chime in? I do know that any steering inputs must be gradual and smooth.

I also have difficulties with the RUF. It feels like an accomplishment if you actually do a clean lap. Racing in a pack I think there will be numerous apologies coming..."sorry bud, I didn't mean to take you out, and you, and you...."

Because it's so difficult I did a lot of laps...everytime with "ok, just one more try!" It's weird, I like the combo but can't keep it on the track!

Do all of your braking in a straight line, all that rear bias doesn't like to be upset mid corner. It's a brake straight, power through kind of car. Also late downshifts and early upshifts(T1, into T4) help.

If anyone has time I can run some laps with them in the evenings or feel free to watch if you're a visual learner.

Sounds like it's gonna be a "RUF" combo for a lot of people...:lol::lol:..Knee slap..:lol::lol:
