Well one thing is for sure, people have moved on. Whether its for a new game, them getting bored with GT6/snail, life got in the way and gave up gaming, personal issues etc. I was away for a couple months myself, but now I'm back.

Maybe there isnt a resolution to dwindling numbers. I dont want to get caught up in discussions about changing anything in snail. I'm still fresh, all this is perfect to me. But I havent even hit the 1 year club. I know theres plenty of people who have been here for years and years yet are still weekend warriors grinding it out. Somethings gotta be working for that to happen.

Grinding it out good term. When has that ever been the goal.
The people that have come and gone far out weigh the few that stuck around. I think a lot of people still go at it because it's comfortable they're used to it. It's known to them. The racing spirit ( which is most likely what brought everyone to online racing in the first place.) isn't present the way it used to be. The excitement and nervousness (the respect) in competing hard isn't there. There are many reasons why this is. But like you said Sam. This is not the place to get into it. Imo something's more wrong then right. Otherwise we would see more people staying and people on a reserve list waiting to get in.

Or maybe this is what it is. Maybe spec racing doesn't have a following like other forms or racing. Maybe it's just a good introduction to racing and that's where it stops. Not sure if it'll ever be known to many variables I guess. Hard to say.

Hi guys, so when the new Gran Turismo arrives is Snail League transitioning right away to the new GT, or will it have 2 separate leagues prepped up till everyone moves on to the new one? and how did it go from GT5 - GT6, I asked this question before on Sunday but wondering if the mods will chime in to get prepped up in the near future

From GT5 to 6 is a different animal than GT6 to GTS as there are new systems (PS4), wheels, and the game not just a new disc. the transition may take a while compared to GT5-6

I asked this same question last June. You can see the replies below:

For me personally, it all boils down to the game. GT6 is old and tired. I appreciate the new games and the realism they offer. As a controller user, I actually enjoy the type of driving challenge that they provide, that GT6 does not. Although, I learned a lot over the years about going faster and on track etiquette, the lack of "control" challenge ultimately drove me toward the new gen games. Racing in real life is hard. Even with my limited hardware, I want as much of that challenge as I can get. And when I get real hardware, I'll most likely keep looking for the best simulation I can afford.

Lessen,

I think you have nailed it right on the head. GT6 was for a time the end all be all of racing games, it is now a dinosaur compared to the PS4, Xbox and PC games we have now. All of the strange quirks that we all never knew existed in GT6 become a tiring reminder once you have played the likes of Project cars, Assetto Corsa, Dirt rally. The horrible sound, the not so great anymore graphics, the physics engine that, to be honest, teaches you awful habits that in a real race car will either cause you to crash or blow up an engine.

I for one absolutely loved GT6 for years and played it religiously until I tried Project Cars for the first time. I played Pcars for two weeks and then tried to go back to GT6 for the Snail ROC for the season and that is when all of the glaring issues with GT6 stood out to me. The steering wheel fighting you down the straights, the total lack of feel of what the car was actually doing. Down shifting mid corner to get the car to do what you want it to.

GT6 on Sundays was always great with all of you but eventually the games die out. It has been many years since GT6 came out and it doesn't look like GT sport is coming out anytime soon. I for one will probably not purchase the new Gran Turismo if the physics are anything like GT6. The challenge that the newer games provide is just so much more immersing. With dynamic time progression, Dynamic weather progression, and even the fact that the shadowed spots on track have just a bit less traction than the sunny parts add to the realism in a way that GT6 never could. The feed back you get through the wheel on the new games is incredible, you can feel what the tires are actually doing against the road.

As the owner of every GT game ever made it makes me sad to say that I won't buy the new one when it comes out but PD really needs to look at what is out there in terms of great racing games and somehow find a way to make theirs better than the competition. From everything I have read about GT Sport so far, they are making a better looking GT6 with some newer cars and some more tracks but the physics of the game are essentially the same. I think its time for PD to really step up and make a real racing simulator.

Yes, but let's talk about what's important... Can I paint my cars avocado green?

I would absolutely like to see bigger rooms and more participants and especially more divisions. However like most things in life, there's always going to be an ebb and flow. Especially where we are talking about a virtual gaming world vs. real life.
I think to a point though it's irrelevant. We're looking at it the wrong way. When I joined SNAIL, I didn't know what to expect, I was just trying to find some racing that was clean and fun. I expected a bunch of 20something geeks who really didn't follow motorsports. Instead I found a group of smart, fun, extremely knowledgeable, high-quality people and the camaraderie that goes with it. I've been a member of many groups/hobbies over the years and can tell you it's rare to find one with so little BS and politics. Early on, I was happily surprised to have people like Samhain and Die_birdy and many others volunteering pointers on laptimes and GT1 setup. Someone writes an IR on you and it helps you become a better driver - it's not from spite or politics, it's the rules and one of the things that makes SNAIL special. Personally, I love the simplicity of the 'arrive and drive' racing because it boils down to good clean fun and close competition. But regardless of what evolves this year, which game offers us what, which becomes the most popular and who will have to take real-life sabaticals, SNAIL and it's camaraderie will evolve and survive.

Happy racing!!

Saturday Night's alright for racin', get a little action in!

Hey guys, I need ya suggestions. I'm looking to buy another used car or new car in the 20k-25k range. Even cheaper is fine as well, as long as the price is good for the car. I'm getting bored and need a new performance, sporty daily driver as us car enthusiasts would assume right off the bat. I have a few in mind that I am considering but I will like to get you guys opinion on why your suggestion suits me. I'm hoping to sell my car at least between 8-9k.

1: I don't want a mustang, camaro or challenger.

2: I prefer european but like asian brands as well. I don't necessarily like American brands to own but I do like some Ford hatches "also considering"

3: Optional Manual Transmission and/or Dual Clutch is preferred or if car doesn't come with a manual option that's ok. It depends on the car.

4: RWD and AWD preferred but open to fwd.

5: Model year preferred 2007+

Thanks

Thanks guys for all the responses, something tells me though that GT Sport might be the best one that will be released. Hmm I guess we'll see though

It will be a MASSIVE move forward for the fanchise, also the most scrutinized. In the hayday, when there was no competition we had little to compare GT to. Not only are they no longer the gold standard, they are also essentially skipping a generation of sim progress. They will be basically be going head to head with Project CARS 2.

I was looking at RoC and don't particularly like the delay format. Also I'm fighting a cold that I hope it much better by tomorrow night.

@GTLehman ,

No, unfortunately you cannot paint your car Avocado green in P cars!

I agree with you regarding SNAIL and all of the members I have had and still do have the pleasure of racing with and also the rules regarding the racing and how the series is setup and run. I'm essentially saying that the Sunday league is probably becoming a smaller group of guys because of all the newer great games out there. We have been running SNAIL Pcars races on Tuesday and now Wednesday nights for quite a while now and most of the drivers are former SNAIL sunday night racers. There is nothing wrong with the SNAIL series, it's just the game that's getting old...

@Lessen ,

GT is going to have to be great and completely revamped in order to grab all of the guys who have switched over to Pcars. Look what happened with Assetto, many of us bought the game thinking it was going to be just as great as the PC version and for the most part we were all disappointed. We were all talking about starting new league nights so we could race both games. I did learn one important thing from the Assetto disappointment, never pre-order no matter how good everyone says it is going to be!

Tell that to GT ACADEMY and all the real drivers that have gone from game(GT6) to real life racer. Some even getting all their practice here with SNAIL.;)

I'd love to be able to run Sunday night format in any of the new games. It's just what you said, once you taste the better games, it's impossible to go back.
Once the series moves over to PS4, I'm sure we'll see a swelling in numbers. I'm certainly going back when it happens, so that's 1...

I wouldn't say impossible to go back , a few of us are doing it weekly.
Comparing what's out now to the old GT6 like everyone keeps doing is , as the saying goes , Apple's to oranges. The fact that people still race the dinosaur GT6 with all the other glam out there is a testament to how good the game actually is.
Count me in , 2
