Just had an idea that I thought I'd throw out there and see if anyone is interested. With GT Academy on the horizon I was thinking of starting a spec Nissan series that would be meant for anyone wanting to prepare for GTA. We would have a weekly time trial that would last all week and then at least one night a week we would race multiple tracks with a single Nissan car. The intention would be to help each other get good enough to make it to the finals so SNAIL would be represented there. What do you guys think? Anyone interested?
I'm interested

Jeez, Joe dubya, trolling much? I hate this concept that a debate on a possible policy change is nothing but kids crying, and that everyone against it is just afraid of change and probably guilty of breaking said possible policy. I'm against it. I've never had a penalty, and I'm one of the careful around the first corner. So much for that concept huh? I'm against this possible policy for one good reason, it already exists. Like has been pointed out, it's not a new rule, it's just a reiteration of rules already present. So how about adding more unneeded language, we focus on getting people to actually file a review so stewards can do what they do, enforce the policies in place. If that doesn't happen, then adding or reiterating a rule is pointless. Want to add the policy to bring attention to the issue? That is a bit asinine. A better way to do that is to make a post every sunday afternoon stressing the issue, just like we do with other issues. This will insure that it gets attention every week instead of just the week we debate the rule, and forgotten once it's added and no longer discussed.

What are we doing Sunday night? X Event? New combos? Touge?

So far I only had Dabneyd showing interest for X-Event. In case people missed it due to the number of posts yesterday...

It there any interest in doing SNAIL X Event on Sunday night at 10pm?

There would be no passing in Turn 1 of Lap 1.

I'm thinking 7 laps each at the following tracks:

Tokyo
Daytona Road Course
Spa
Nurb GPF
Indy Road Course

We would do 6 minute Q followed by 7 lap race.
Use SNAIL points system and declare a X Event Champion at the end.

Using any of the X2010s. Tuning Prohibited.

Please sign up in the X-Event thread if you are interested.

You've got the whole URL at the top there, and what the embed link should look like (add an E, obviously). You only need the part of the URL after 'watch?v='.

Driftin, things are looking good for me sunday night, so long as internet is hooked up and power is turned on as it's scheduled. Count me in for some touge.I'm thinking of getting on around 8 to warm up with some shuffle racing.

I'm interested. Pre snail I was in the sub 500 range. I can't wait to see how low I can get now!

Alright Rally! I might join you before we start on the touge for some pre-race fun.

Love the idea, hill! Please post more details as they develop, including suggestions on which night you wanted to do this on. It'd be cool to have S.N.A.I.L. represented there. Maybe we should come up with some prizes for any SNAIL that makes the finals! 💡

Something else we could do to compliment your idea is to mandate that only Nissan's can be selected by Prize A and Prize B in the month leading up to GT Academy. Then we could temporarily change our name to Sunday Night Academy Improvement League. However, I'm not sure how those not interested in GTA would feel about having a Nissan-dominated lineup.. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Sounds great. I'm guessing only the GT Academy prize cars could be used for the events? If so, and if people are missing cars, there is a thread that is trading them in ticket form. We could make it happen.

The point would be to integrate preparation for GT Academy into the league itself. Therefore, only cars that could potentially be used in the GT Academy finals would be allowed for selection. I like the idea, but not sure how everyone else feels about it.

Are you saying that the GT Academy prize cars are the only likely cars that GTA finalist will be asked to compete in? I'm not a GTA expert by any means, but I could've sworn that guys last year were just practicing in certain in-game Nissans.

We also need to remember that this year's GT Academy will be in the GT6 engine, so there may be tracks or cars that we cannot use in GT5. I do like the idea of having a GT Academy preparatory, but we may not be able to fully replicate the conditions.

That may be true, but those limitations are on everyone else in the world as well. However, there are certainly things we can do to replicate the conditions at least partially. And if there's anything we can do to help our aspiring GT Academy finalists, I say we do it. Even for those of us who don't have a realistic shot at the finals, wouldn't it be fun to compete with each other under similar conditions on a few Sunday nights out of the year? :dopey:

Totally agree, but I don't think we can require winners to choose the GTA cars only. If anything, we could make it an event in its own right.

Great news! The Dacia Sand....just kidding :sly: The rain has finally stopped at Sarthe in my race

My update is that I'm still 2 laps up after 6:45. I suspended the race at my latest pitstop where it's asking me to switch to inters at 68% so I'm a little leery about doing that or if I should stick with the full wets for a few more laps, lol

When the game suggested intermediates I took them. Think the track was around 75% or so. They didn't last me 3 laps. Pitted again for another set and the track got down to 20% before I'd run those of the rims. Put on hards at that point and ran a few more laps. Will probably go to mediums or softs when I resume tonight and see how long they last. Thinking about changing the brake balance towards the fronts to help with rear tire wear.

Well, they haven't been that kind to me

It's been odd to be honest. Each time I restart the race from where I left it, the AI cars seem to pick up speed for a few laps and take big chunks of time out of me (like 5-10 seconds a lap), but then it all sort of equals out and they go back to being slower again. I'm not complaining, I just think it's weird

I've noticed this same thing. I'll suspend the game with a 4-6 minute lead and when I resume I've a 1-2 minute lead by my next pit stop.

How are you able to change setting like that? Anyways it's pouring for me right now at 8 hours. I am still doing 8:30 laps though with the full wets . Throttle control is essential thought. I still can't manage a full 7 laps without running out if fuel. How were your stints so long??????

I never got below I think a 9:24 under full wet conditions. Tried to keep from using more than half throttle until the car was over 120MPH. Used one or two higher gears for getting into and out of turns as well.

Short answer - I was slower.

Dry racing is so much more fun than wet.

I forget what it's called but there is a menu of settings you can call up while you are actually driving that allows you to change BB, TCS, ABS etc. I usually had to slow way down just to fiddle with it cuz I ain't pro.

You can map any buttons on the G27 to call up the BB menu and go up or down.

Funny you should mention that, dragon....that's exactly the strategy I went for too

I was getting 12 laps with the full wets at 100% but could only manage half that on the inters which got me down to 43% or something which I felt was still too high for slicks (besides, why take the risk with such a big lead, right?). So I squeezed another 5 lap stint and suspended it around 7:20 and 15% so I'll be switching to slicks when I fire it back up again :)

Are you saying that because you don't think everyone would be okay with racing primarily GTA cars or because it would be un-SNAIL (and un-American! ;)) to limit the choices of the Prize A and Prize B winners?

It's more about the possibility that some (most, all?) events will be at Silverstone, but also the latter point.

Yup. Got that mapped to the second red button from the left on the shifter console.

(2) so that drivers who are being careful and doing their part to avoid incidents in the 1st turn of are not taken advantage of.

This happens to me almost every week. It is a kick in the balls for giving the people in front of you some slack in turn 1.

The problem is that many drivers confuse their superior pace to the person ahead of them entering turn 1 as something their skill has brought about instead of correctly attributing it to the concertina (accordion) effect.

I'm thinking it would be it's own event. As much as I like the idea of making SNAIL sundays into a GTA practice event I'd rather have it just be for those who are serious about making it. As we get closer it might just become an every night thing but for now I'm thinking any open night works. My intention is to get a group of people practicing and improving each other's skills by sharing advice and tricks that they figure out. As far as what cars we'd use it'd be any of the Nissans in the game. They don't have to be GTA cars as those are just paint jobs for the most part. I realize it will take place on the GT6 platform which could be totally different but I figure it's worth practicing with what we have for now.

Sorry, but I'm confused. Are you referring to the likelihood that the GT Academy online time trial competition will feature the upcoming Silverstone DLC track? If not, what "events" are you referring to?

EDIT: I meant the upcoming GT6 Silverstone track. :dunce:
